Hi! The question is very generic.

Have you checked here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=37.0) first? Perhaps this thread should be opened there. And I assume that you can find an answer navigating through the threads in that board.

One post that could help you is this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0

However,

1. what do you want to do with your wallet? You want to use it for Bitcoin only, or for altcoins too?
2. do you prefer to use it mainly using mobile or computer?
3. do you want to buy a device and store your keys offline? (recommended)

note 1: I assume from the post that you want to buy a hardware wallet, though I am not absolutely sure.
note 2: what do you mean "there are ordinary ones"?

I suggest you spend some time browsing around the Wallet Software boards. There are many threads that discuss different wallets there, including which wallet is good for beginners. The threads linked above are a good source too, just remember that some info on the OP might not be up to date, although the principle should stay the same. You can also use resources like https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet (although the list is a bit out of date afaik, CMIIW) to help you decide which wallet to choose, although it looks like you're limiting your choice to a hardware wallet only.

Since you're looking for a hardware wallet, the Hardware wallets would be the best sub-boards if you want to ask more. I suggest you read and learn something first before you make a new thread though, since information on how hardware wallet works, which products are available to buy etc are easy to find.

Being a beginner, what you first beed to identify out here is the need to which type of wallet you want to have and for what purpose, are you interested in having a bitcoin only supported wallet, or do you want a wallet that constitute support for other cryptocurrencies, you also have to know if you want a free wallet or he one you could purchase with your money, lastly, you beed to look into the wallet security measures that each types has before choosing one to serve your purpose.

For your security measures, you can go for these
bitcoincore
https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/

Hardware wallets which may cost you little amount of money in getting one
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Hardware_wallet

As a beginner, i wouldn't advise you to use hot wallet.

Which crypto wallet is better to take for a beginner?
When I was a newbie, I was too confident with web wallets because they're easy to navigate and thought that they're one of the best. But thank you to the other members that were more knowledgeable and suggested what one should consider upon choosing a wallet. So, it should be Electrum as one of the best candidate as the wallet for Bitcoin-only holding for beginners. Well, in general of a crypto wallet then there goes the other desktop and multicurrency wallets but apart from that, the next that should count are the hardware wallets.

Now there are many varieties, there are screens, there are ordinary ones, there are also cheap and expensive ones, how to choose and what to rely on?
I don't understand why there has to be the cheap and expensive ones, maybe you're reiterating the hardware wallets on this one. They're not cheap nor expensive compared to the security that it will provide to your assets.

I would go for the expensive one if I can afford it, when something is expensive, it's because they have quality, and in the case of a crypto wallet, expensive hardware wallets have extra security features for those who need them, everyone will be fine with the smallest Ledger Nano. You are referring to a hot wallet when you said ordinary wallet? Electrum wallet is the best Bitcoin wallet that you can run on your smartphone.

In the same way that you would store your ATM card, your recovery seed should be kept in a safe, preferably offline location. If you lose your recovery seed or if it somehow leaks, scammers and hackers can gain access to your coins.

Which crypto wallet is better to take for a beginner? Now there are many varieties, there are screens, there are ordinary ones, there are also cheap and expensive ones, how to choose and what to rely on?
There are three wallet operating systems.
  • Mobile (Android Wallets, iOS Wallets)
  • Desktop (Linux Wallets, Mac Wallets, Windows Wallets)
  • Hardware Wallet
Because there are so many varieties, where do you want to use it?
Head over to bitcoin.org and choose for yourself.
I will help share how.

When your browser is on bitcoin.org,
Select wallet >> Next >> select android version >> Next.
When it comes to that stage, the question will arise how much we know about bitcoin, New or experienced. Select New as a starter.

In this image display, you click on which icon you want.

Cheap and expensive wallets are hardware wallets because you have to spend money to buy them, but their security is better.

@OP For a beginner I think that something not too expensive and proven would be a good choice, meaning something Trezor Model One or Ledger Nano S Plus. I personally tried both and prefer the latter but I don't think that you can go wrong with either of those two.

Which crypto wallet is better to take for a beginner? Now there are many varieties, there are screens, there are ordinary ones, there are also cheap and expensive ones, how to choose and what to rely on?
For a better crypto wallet for a beginner, I will recommend choosing a cryptocurrency light wallet that is secure, easy to use, and must be non-custodial. In addition to that, it's crucial to know that different wallets may have varied features and functions according to the user's individual needs, so do your homework and evaluate several options to discover the greatest fit for your needs.
If the wallet you need is solely for Bitcoin I will recommend the Electrum wallet or get the Ledger Nano S hardware wallet for multiple crypto.

You can use multiwallet as a beginner. If you use multiwallet as a beginner, you will get better experience about the wallet. Then from here when you gain more experience you can decide on your own which wallet to use for more security. First of all, I don't recommend you to use a hardware wallet. That's why in the first instance I can guide you to use trust wallet as a multi-wallet. Trust wallet is full of security but you must keep its password very safe.

Which crypto wallet is better to take for a beginner?
I started on blockchain but I never recommend it now because of the security issue then came the desktop versions I tried Exodus and Electrum and I never go back again from using an online wallet

Your end goal is to buy a hardware wallet but if you still have no option to buy it yet, I highly recommend Exodus because they have a monthly upgrade and Electrum, both are convenient and feature-rich.
But your main priority is knowledge of how to secure your wallet, the best wallet is not secure if you are careless, remember you are your own bank, and a bank is always on a threat of intrusion, so employ the best security measures, and you are good to go.

All the bitcoin and crypto wallets are free to use except the hardware wallets which you need to purchase before using them.

Yes, there are many varieties of wallets but mainly there are two categories that as a beginner you should know. One is the web wallets where you keep the coins and those sites are accessed by username and password. You do not hold the private key of those wallets and hence you are taking a risk by depositing your money in centralized wallets. Though they are easily accessible but there is no control and you do not own the coins 100% in case the site closes or scams.

Then there are Desktop/Mobile wallets that you may install on your laptop / Mobile and you can access them by seed phrases and private keys. Though they are a bit technical to use, they are much more secure than online web wallets.

Wallets in the form of apps, programs, online services, and browser extensions are considered ‘hot’ because they require an Internet connection to work. They come in these types:
• Custodial or non-custodial, depending on who holds private keys
• Web, mobile or desktop, depending on which platform they run on.

In turn, wallets that don’t require an Internet connection are considered ‘cold’ (at the same time they are categorised as non-custodial). They come in 2 physical forms:
• Hardware
• Paper.

You can start learning a little about Bitcoin either from YouTube or by reading some books, and here I recommend Mastering Bitcoin book https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook if you have some time to read it.

For wallets, the choice is up to you to try several wallets, but for me, I will choose

Android:
Mycelium and samourai wallet

Windows/Linux/Mac:
Sparrow and electrum

iPhone:
Bluewallet

Electrum is good for beginners since keeping the seed phrase is all what you need to do so that no one can access your wallet except you if you want to own a wallet that doesn't cost a single cent. Well, if you can afford to spend money for wallet then try trezor but it will cost you. This depends on what you want if you want to spend to own a wallet or you don't want to spend to own a wallet. Electrum also supports mobile version and it's free.

Why do they have to use exchange wallets when they have many options to use non custodial wallets?

Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts

For beginners, they can use SPV wallets like Electrum wallet. They don't need big storage space to use SPV wallets.

If they can afford to buy a hardware wallet, it's perfect.

I thought adding a decentralized exchange wallet could also be a recommendation since it will be more preferred than using a centralized exchange wallet, but just as you've corrected, i think there's no need of such addition, i appreciate your observation and will act promptly in editing that one out, this is another way I've found this forum to be more interesting about learning, we keep doing that everyday improving ourselves, thank you for observing that.

BlueWallet. It is I think the wallet with the best mass-friendly UI/UX so far that makes it feels less like an app for an "experimental" niche, but instead an app that can look like your typical modern app.

Of course if you want to go deeper down the rabbit hole, then you're going to need a hardware wallet.

The thread; [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? gives you the idea about the different types of wallet.
It has also mentioned a lot of wallets that you can use and that's more than enough information already where you can start. There have been suggestions already for you to get on hardware wallets but I don't think that you can ever extract that quickly since you're starting out.

Electrum is great for beginners. You can also use the available mobile wallet. but be careful in connecting the wallet with any site you come across.
if you want a better hardware wallet, trezor and ledger will be safe to store your assets. or i recently tried safepal wallet. There is a version for hardware wallet and also mobile. although both are actually related to be able to use it.
many choices, you can choose it.
