New Version of Electrum (4.4.1) crashing on mac every time I open it

I've just downloaded the new version of Electrum (4.4.1) from the official site but now every time I attempt to login with my password it crashes - and now my previous version (4.3.4) is apparently too old to open my default wallet - PLEASE HELP!

If your device is capable of upgrade, it would be good to update your device to the latest OS version, probably there will not be an error. If your laptop can not do that, it would be good to get another laptop with the latest OS.

Get your seed phrase, make sure you have it with you. Delete the app and reinstall the previous version. Do not try to downgrade directly.

Better to use the recent updates.

I am running the latest OS (12.6.5) - I can open the app and create a new wallet, but if I try to open my previous default wallet it just crashes every time, and I'm starting to get slightly worried...

What is your current Mac version?
According to electrum.org supported version is 10.13 or higher if it's below then Electrum will not run properly.

Do not worry make sure the wallet file is safe or if you have a seed backup then you can just uninstall the Electrum latest version then downgrade to 4.3.4 then import the seed backup to restore your wallet.

I've uninstalled and downgraded and attempted to restore from seed and 4.3.4 states that this version is too old to open this wallet. I've then uninstalled that and attempted a reinstall of the newer versions (4.4.0 & 4.4.1) and tried the same thing and those versions both crash when it starts to load up the wallet???

I can't see anything interesting in that log you posted. Is it getting truncated due to being too long?
Try searching for "Traceback" or "Exception", and post only the lines close to that.

I have uninstalled the app at present and I'm going to attempt to restore from seed on my friends macbook tomorrow - unless you can advise me to try something different? - I have tried each of the last 3 versions of electrum more than once each without success (4.3.4 says its too old to open that wallet and 4.4.0 / 4.4.1 both crash after I enter my password when attempting to restore my default wallet from seed)

I assume the compatibility of the latest macOS you use with some software, such as Electrum, still has problems.
Another similar case occurred when macOS 11 was just released, so Electrum released v 4.0.5 to fix it:

Another alternative before you restore the electrum seed phrase on your friend's Macbook:
Use the Parallels Desktop application or other virtual machine and install a lower version of macOS than the macOS you currently use (for Electrum 4.4.1, the minimum is macOS 10.13).

Install Electrum v4.4.0 or v4.4.1 from macOS on the virtual machine to recover the wallet using the seed phrase.

As an illustration, I previously installed Electrum 4.4.1 on macOS 10.15.7 and had no problems while opening or closing the application, even when I used it for transaction testing.

It seems that the Bitcoin transaction fee rate is currently increasing. Use the bump fee feature on Electrum to add fees to your transactions.

If downgrading and restoring from the seed phrase is your current option,
temporarily rename your wallet file so Electrum wont be able to load it automatically, that'll prevent that error.
Alternatively, you can remove the "gui_last_wallet" line in the config file.

Your wallet/config file can be found in your Electrum data directory, "wallets" fodler: electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#where-is-my-wallet-file-located

You can restore from seed on your own device. Just click on "create a new wallet" on the opening screen or enter a unique filename in the wallet field.

I am not a Mac user but it looks like the Electrum on MacOS automatically loaded your wallet which keeps the latest version to crash.
Better move the wallet file to another folder to avoid such an issue and then restore the wallet with the seed backup.

According to the nc50lc link, you can find the Electrum folder by following this Open Finder>Go to folder (shift+cmd+G) and type ~/.electrum

Make sure to move the wallet file to the safe folder in case your seed phrase backup is different from your current wallet you can able to move the wallet file to another Mac to recover your funds.

OK, so - I got it back! 

All I did was uninstall every version of Electrum, shut my macbook down, restarted it and then downloaded the newest version of Electrum again and - POW! I was able to access my wallet again...?

Probably caused by installing the update while an instance of the old version was still running.
If not actively running, a "zombie" electrum process was still running in the backgound.

Because that'll prevent some files to be overwritten by the update.

Unlike in Windows OS, installing the Electrum application on macOS simply drags and drops the application file to the Applications folder. Delete the application from the Applications folder to the Trash to Uninstall Electrum.

New applications cannot be installed or copied to the Applications folder while the same software runs.

Thanks, but it still doesn't explain why it works now after uninstalling the old and reinstalling the latest version.

He didn't specified a specific error and there seem to be no issue in his .log file.

Perhaps OP installed multiple instances using "Keep Both", launched v4.4.1 right after install, that essentially upgraded the wallet file as well. (then closed that session)
But somehow, he's still using a shortcut to the older version that caused a "This version of Electrum is too old to open this wallet" error which what he described as "crash".
