The video card was bought by my colleague less than two weeks ago. The warranty service refused to repair. A fellow miner with experience, but late noticed a problem with overheating of the power connector. I do not recommend video cards with this 12 pin connector, as if it was invented against mining.

A fellow miner with experience, but late noticed a problem with overheating of the power connector. I do not recommend video cards with this 12 pin connector, as if it was invented against mining. Was this having a 2 x 6 PCIE-x connectors or a single 12 pin connectors as most likely 2 x 6 PCIE-x connectors should somewhat not make the card overheat, for Rtx 4080 is the first time I am seeing this and I guess this is plain bad luck because I have not seen this en mass like I used to see a lot of complaints for the 4090 card which of course with that power consumption was going to overheat a lot and it was for me a bad design from Nvidia but for 4080 first time I am hearing here, maybe not a lot of people have bought these cards yet. By the way was your colleague using such recommended cable as per Nvidia specs as from what I see there they wanted a "3x PCIe 8-pin cables (adapter in box) OR 450 W or greater PCIe Gen 5 cable"

I think the cable was used out of the box. Bad contacts always give such negative consequences, but in Russia such breakdowns cannot be returned under warranty. Very high power per connector, Nvidia are assholes, they need to come back with proven 8 pin connectors.

That's why I've bought Corsair 600W PCIe 5.0 cables for my 4090 gpus.

Share a link to the cable. Branded cable is good, but 200-300 watts for one connector is a lot if the load is constant, like in mining. You cannot leave your mining farm unattended for a long time, and in the summer you will need to monitor your video cards more closely.

Much better than an adapter, it eliminates an unnecessary extra connection, but only works with Corsair. Each different PSU needs its own custom cable to match its pinouts. PCIe 5 PSUs are still rare since only Nvidia GPUs can use them.

Thank you. But of course it is very expensive. 3 cables for 6 GPU headers on the power supply will cost about half the cost of the power supply Nvidia assholes. Therefore, I will choose other models with 8 pin power connector or AMD video cards that do not change the power connector.

But you can buy for 10-20 euros cheaper in bulk.Ii is 3-4 years old, but the warranty for such power supplies is 10 years. For 300 euros you probably bought a more powerful unit, but I can use 2 used power supplies total power 2000 watt for 200 euros.

We always have an inadequate price for such power supplies, and in the season they could cost $ 600, and this is the price of a used power supply. 850 or 1000 watts are the most popular power supplies in this series. For more power, it is better to choose a server PSU.

They are cheap, might worth a try--only for old ROI'd cards LOL I think running them at 50-60% of rated power would be ideal.

Each of these Chinese power supplies has its drawbacks, because manufacturers save on buying quality components. Moreover, if you need more than 2000 watts and 2 corsair power supplies of 1000 watts each do not suit you, then it is better to buy server power supplies. I wouldn't buy cheap power supplies because I don't want to risk a stack of graphics cards.

I wouldn't buy cheap power supplies because I don't want to risk a stack of graphics cards. even low quality components gets a good life span if you use them at half the rated spec and in cooler environment. an example is LED bulbs i own Philips, that have average lifespan of 1 year (heavy use), i had a chinese (forgot the brand), but due to aluminum heat sink to the electronic component, lasted for 4+ years (heavy use). hehe that's why you don't throw old cards, you stress test first with a bunch of 290x and then run it light and cool. even branded quality PSUs breaks down due to heat and high load. huge ATX PSU will save you the trouble of dealing with break out boards. also if it is cheap, it will ROI faster.

There is a big guarantee for branded power supplies up to 10 years, although these branded power supplies broke down for me. But since service centers in my country do not repair them, the sellers returned the money to me for the purchase. Sometimes it turned out to buy a similar power supply cheaper. There may not be a problem with Chinese power supplies, but now it is better to buy a proven branded PSU, because they are cheap.

Here is the math, 1300w branded psu ~ 300$ 2600w chinese cheap psu ~ 150$ The 1300w can be used for 80% load, that's ~ 1000w, the 2600w used at 50% is 1300w. Warranty is already priced in the retail, at ~300$ you already bought the 10yr warranty. For the cheap psu, you don't need to wait for 10 years for ROI. I would only use the cheap psu on old gpus, when upgrading use the branded on new cards, move the old cards to the chinese psu.

Excellent power supply Corsair 1000 watts after 3-4 years of use ~ 100 dollars. If there is a breakdown, then I need 1 or 2 trips out of town to find the cause of the breakdown, and then buy the necessary components for repair. 2 trips is an expense of 20-30 dollars.

pin burned surely warranty wont accept it, neither gpu or psu, sadly some psu cable quite bad doesnt hold 300w of power. mostly the cable socket or psu socket get burned. and now gpus seems using under wattage configuration lol
