I hope someone can kindly advise me and anyone else reading it what is the best thing to do in such a scenario.

After buying a new PC (Windows 11), I set up Electrum once again after going through all the correct procedures.

On my old PC, I had my coins stored in a default wallet. So what I did was set up a new wallet on my new PC (this time I gave it a name) and imported the seed (if that is the correct, phrase). So I typed in my sixteen words and the coins appeared in this new wallet.

I now have the novelty that I can see them on both the old PC in the old default wallet and the new PC in my named wallet.

I plan to eventually move my coins to a Trezor wallet. But is there any way I can disable the old default wallet in my old PC, before I get rid of the old PC entirely?

So I typed in my sixteen words and the coins appeared in this new wallet.
You probably had 12 words, not 16 words.

I now have the novelty that I can see them on both the old PC in the old default wallet and the new PC in my named wallet.
Note that with having the same wallet in two different devices, you increase the risk of getting hacked.

I plan to eventually move my coins to a Trezor wallet. But is there any way I can disable the old default wallet in my old PC, before I get rid of the old PC entirely?
You can delete the wallet file, but note that even if you do that, it won't permanently leave your hard derive. There are recovery tools that can recover the delete files.
The best thing you can do is to create a new wallet in your new device, make a transaction and move all the fund to that.

Yes, you are correct, I checked and it was 12 words. I think I had 16 words in my first ever wallet.

I will do as you say, as I understand about double the risk of being hacked. It is just a shame I will have to pay transaction costs for moving between two wallets on the one computer...

Many thanks for your helpful reply.

Since you are going to buy a Trezor hardware wallet, just move all your funds into the hardware wallet with the new seed phrase generated as you set up the wallet and back it up. once you have swept your funds into your hardware wallet, you no longer have to disable the wallet on your pc or worry about it, because your funds are now in a new wallet, with a new seed phrase and has no connection with the old wallet.

A solution is to create a new electrum wallet with a new seed and move your coins there, as the old wallet was already used in 2 computers

However the fees are so high right now that I wouldn't recommend it.

Thr real solution is to buy a trezor ASAP, as Z-tight  said just move your coins to that hardware wallet as it is much safer.

However,  I would suggest that you take a look at this article before buying a trezor https://cryptoslate.com/censorship-concerns-grow-as-trezor-integrates-coinjoin/

The problem is that I have already set up my Trezor wallet, though it has no coins in it as of yet. So am I too late to sweep my funds into my hardware wallet or can it still be done? I cannot see a way of doing this.

No, you cannot sweep. You need  to use  eelectrum to transfer your funds to the trezor wallet.

The fees are high now... but I would move my coins as fast as possible, as it is safer.

Create a new wallet with trezor and click receive to see the address and transfer

Thanks for the reply. I have already bought and set up a Trezor Model One. Given the above article, is there a better hardware wallet that experts on here would recommend?

As you already brought the trezor it is fine. Just use it, it is safe.

It just has some privacy problems which are not big deal to security
I prefer ledger, but you are fine with trezor.

I guess I can just set the lowest fees, even if it takes something like 22 hours for a single transaction.

Deleting the wallet file from your older computer doesn't guarantee that the file is 100% unrecoverable. You can either remove and keep the HDD aside, supposing you're planning to get rid of that computer, or attempt to overwrite it using software specified for this operation. I know a couple but don't remember them right now; a quick Google search would be enough. Unless you prefer to create a new wallet and move all your funds there. However, I don't see the point in doing that since you mentioned in your previous post that you've already bought a Trezor device. Move your coins there and you'll be good to go, if the high fees are concerning you right now, lower them and in the worst case scenario, you'll have to wait a few more hours.

Make sure that you permanently delete all files on your old computer, but if you want to be safer I suggest doing additional full format of your old hard drive, just make sure you have backup words in physical form.

Only way to move those coins from Electrum to Trezor wallet later is to make a transaction to new address generated in Trezor, but don't do it right now when transaction fees are very high.

I guess I can just set the lowest fees, even if it takes something like 22 hours for a single transaction.
With lowest fees there is good chance it will never get confirmed now in this mempool conditions.
There is no need to rush anything if you have old backup safe, just wait for mempool to cool down, unless you want to pay miners premium fees.
