I had the same experience when I walking in town the other day I thought it was just a normal QR code from our local online payment but guess what? it was Bitcoin payment accepted here, I just forgot to take a picture because I was rushing to my appointment. Looks like nowadays we are heading in some new direction regarding bitcoins payment and when you go to some bigger cities in our country, you often see that they also have some stores that accept bitcoins there. That's one of the signs that bitcoins are now gaining more trust from the people unlike before and I'm sure in the future the common fish vendors will also accept it as a means of payment as well.

Maybe like you, op also forgot to take a picture of his neighbor who he didn't fully imagine or expected to do so he was surprised. We don't know, but it's still a good development and establishing such a thing at least there is some bitcoin adaptations happening in their community.

who knows,  maybe why his neighbor did that just to save money and to do this he included it in his small business in their area. There are people like that, who don't care about trading, their only goal is to accumulate bitcoin even if they don't know enough about it.

BIG WINNER!

Nice story, but, assuming it's true, it doesn't seem to me the best time to accept Bitcoin payments in a physical store, being the fees to get a transaction confirmed in the next block around $2. If I'm going to buy $10 worth of items in the store why should I have to wait ten minutes on average and pay a 20% fee if paying with cash I don't pay fees and I don't have to wait.
I have to believe that the plenty of people who sell groceries and paste the bitcoin accepted never gets customers to patronize them with bitcoin. It could be that they put those signs for formality purpose and for people to see them that they are upto date and enlightened.
When I see this type of post, I have to think about the wait time and who bears the transaction fees which is likely that they will be sending through exchanges and not wallets.

Using LN would make more sense, but you would have to open a channel with each customer, so neither.

Even many people here have never tried the LN payment and know how it works, let alone a shop owner who bearly knows about bitcoin.
I have been hearing these types of stories and I don't have strong reasons to believe them, but there are reasons not to believe because there are no evidences.

The term "Sari-sari Store" is proof that we are from the same country (PH). Correct me if there are some other countries who are using this term though.
This move of him is good, but it has a bad side as well.

The good thing is that, he's helping towards the adoption of Bitcoin in one way or another... and I guess that's only the good thing of it.

Now the bad side. Since we are talking about sari-sari store, prices of goods that are being sold in that kind of store is small, and if you will add the transaction fees the buyer has to add, overtime it might be a burden for him. Unless the buyer will buy in bulks, then the fees will not be felt at all. Another thing is that, I don't know if it's only me, but he might be more prone to 5$ wrench attacks because more people will know that he's involved into Bitcoin, and cryptocurrency.

TBH, there are more bad things than good things with this move, but it's his decision at the end of the day. I wonder how many customers of him will use Bitcoin to pay those goods. Maybe you can try yourself? Cheesy

now that bitcoin is increasingly recognized by many people, it is not surprising that there are people who are starting to want to experience bitcoin transactions by making payments using btc like your neighbors who have shops that can pay using bitcoins.

but if my hear your story, it seems that the owner of the shop is still a beginner in bitcoin, if he asks you for help, I think you should be able to explain to him about bitcoin or the risks of investing in btc.

I just want to share something here, because I have a neighbor here who has a small store called Sari-Sari store, whose goods are, can goods, coconut, wine, candies, soft drinks, soy sauce, and so on. I was just surprised when I was going to buy from his store, there was a poster that said "We accept Bitcoin" as payment, I smiled at this neighbor of mine.

I asked him what motivated him to do this, and although it's good that he did it, Then who will be the customer who will use Bitcoin to pay for his goods? His answer to me was me, I laughed even more and was happy with his answer. Because apart from me, even his children, when buying their goods, he will also teach them to pay with Bitcoin. You're doing a good job, teaching your children and awareness about Bitcoin, keep doing it and I'll support you in that matter.

And his answer to me is that his cousin is doing bitcoin trade and he mentioned to him that bitcoin is his cousin's primary source of income, and he also advised him that bitcoin can be used as an option for payment for his goods. , and also taught him how to do it.

It's funny because at least I'm not alone in our place anymore, and I also told my neighbor that if he wants to ask a question, He can ask me anytime.

Does anyone willing to pay bitcoin? even if the fee is even more than the amount of your purchases from that store? I mean I know a "Sari-sari" store, usually customers doesn't spend that much barely a dollar every single purchase, compared to how much you are gonna pay in the supermarket/grocery stores. I'd be surprise if someone actually did that, not even you have done that right? because the fees might even more than the amount of your purchase. Nevertheless, that's a good initiative on trying to accumulate bitcoin from the  customers who purchase goods rather than accumulating them using your fiat as there will be a fee when you buy bitcoin on your own.
It would also be better if you got a picture from that store showing the signage about accepting bitcoin payments and post it together in the OP.

Finally, someone sees the way I see using Bitcoin as means of payment, it doesn't make sense to buy something you can eat using 1$ or more as transaction fee, how much is the thing you trying to pay for? It's not just worth it.

There are several of us who have raised this point in the thread but so far the OP has not come back here to clarify it. Let's hope that this does not become a spam mega thread in which the OP opens a thread and does not deign to come back here.

Does anyone willing to pay bitcoin?

That's the central question of the thread, and as skeptical as I am it makes me think it's BS, a made up story like the many you see around here to meet the weekly quota, as well as trying to fish for some merit.

It's very good that the government in your area doesn't prohibit its citizens from accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment, because in my country even if you only trade crypto you will be fined, especially if you accept bitcoin as payment, you will definitely be punished and your business will be closed. Hopefully in your area Bitcoin will be more widely used, because we know that with the increasing adoption of Bitcoin in one community it can bring good changes and improve the economy of the community.

If the store wants customers to make purchases and pay with bitcoin, then they must take care of the commission issue. Otherwise, competitors who are nearby and accept payment in fiat, without any commissions, will very quickly lure all buyers. In this situation, paying with bitcoin, especially if these are small purchases, is not profitable, primarily because of high commissions.

It's obvious that a lot of people really want to adopt Bitcoin as a payment method, which I find to be a very active way of communicating Bitcoin to the people living around you. Since I started accepting Bitcoin in my business, I think I have even lost count of how many people have really inquired about Bitcoin knowledge from me. Some of my customers are really interested in knowing what Bitcoin really is, and although I have given many of them time to explain, I have also referred some to the forum. I have also given them a lot of materials to watch and read, and I have also given them the opportunity to relate to me any time they have questions.

Well, I like the fact that you told your neighbor to call and ask you anything any time he wants, because often times if he is persistent in accepting Bitcoin, as long as he always has that display of "we now accept Bitcoin" in his shop, he should also get ready to entertain a lot of questions about Bitcoin from some customers that have zero knowledge about Bitcoin. Best of luck to him.

Cheers 🥂, Dr.Bitcoin_Strange 👺👺

If two bitcoiners are coming together then this is least of their worries. We can always start to explore various options that pre exists. This includes paper wallet and they can be carried with us and handed over to the shop keeper or wherever the business is happening.

I mean since he is neighbour or live nearby they can always trust each other with the paper wallet. They could print some bitcoin money in the form of paper wallet; visit the store and hand over the equivalent amount of bitcoin. I’m sure there needs improvisation of the system but it’s nothing like we have no options at all and keep crying about it all the time about fees. That’s also temporary by the way.

Nice to hear that his neighbor uses bitcoins and also accepts bitcoin payments in his shop, it looks like your neighbor is about to become a bitcoin family because besides his children his cousin also uses it even for his main source of income.
actually without us knowing it many people around us use it for their own interests and I also experienced it because besides me around me there are also many who use bitcoin. And this is proof that bitcoin will continue to grow and continue to be popular because of the many good benefits for those who use it, and what surprised me the most is that bitcoin can be used as an alternative for unexpected payments like my experience here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5401052.msg60271061#msg60271061

Individually most people accept it as a payment mode at least those who know how precious Bitcoin is. These days digital payment is preferred everywhere from small Shops to big restaurants most people don't carry cash, So there is nothing weird if anyone is accepting BTC as a digital payment mode. Even sometimes I did some casual payments for buying products in BTC and when I did the first time I was also shocked because I was selling BTC P2P for making payment he said Bro why are you selling to someone else I can take it as well make a direct transfer to me.

After that day I decided whether then converting my Bitcoins to Fiat and why not to ask the person to accept BTC first at least if He doesn't know he will spend some time in curiosity and try to figure out what I was talking about. Then maybe when he'll search about and educate himself, with that act maybe the community will get another Bitcoiner

A great way to start a conversation about how he is able to mitigate the effects of the volatility, the type of wallet he uses. Does he have a separate wallet for his business? How is he able to do his PnL analysis?

You would be shocked by how many people own bitcoin in your neighbourhood that you didn't know about if you do a survey. If you work in the investment and financial sector, these guys already know the potential that bitcoin has. They buy some satoshis, hold and keep quiet living their lives. They do not tweet or write anything about bitcoin online. They are like bitcoin's secret disciple.

Loyalty to bitcoin manifests everywhere for some of the people who are participating, sometimes we are too concerned with the problem of outside look and judgment that we do not want to express our thoughts from ourselves.
I found the OP's neighbor from the story quite honest, although this is only a small act, it shows that there are still some even more people who are optimistic about the future of BTC, personally I fully support these things appear more in life.

Any well-being and disciplined entrepreneur will do anything to make payment easy for his customers because when you rely on a single mode of payment, you will lose customers sometimes because they can have technical problems sometimes, it is always best when you provide customers with different choices of payment, it will even give them this confidence of having a successful deal with you as a seller. I think the last time I Learned Master Card block p$^nhub from using their platform to receive payment and ever since then, they have added different types of crypto payment for viewers who wish to go premium, it's part of the development we all want with Bitcoin.

This sounds really interesting, and good luck to your neighbor, I am also looking forward to the day when businesses in my area here can declare officially that they are now accepting bitcoin, I would never would have to convert my bitcoin to fiat and withdraw before I spend it anymore, directly with my bitcoin in my wallet, I can buy what ever I want and make payment directly through my bitcoin wallet..
This alone can drive and aid in bitcoin adoption, but the only thing that is going to be a big challenge is the transaction fee, even at $2 per transaction, that is still very expensive when compared to what items been bought and paid for in bitcoin is worth, if for example, total items are all together worth below $50, paying $2 in fees for transaction confirmation is rather too expensive to be honest.

No wonder Bitcoin has become popular with people day by day. Because of this, your neighbor might want to trade with Bitcoin. But I applaud him for taking such an initiative. Although we have not yet started using Bitcoin in any of our stores here, there is a love for it.  Doing business through Bitcoin will bring a lot of success. If we are aware about bitcoin and know how to use it well then we can also inform our children about bitcoin. It should be used with awareness.

~snipped~
The only thing that bothers me with physical store who accepts Bitcoin is fee for every transaction. I have e-wallet if they have alternative method to pay something where the fee is significantly lower than Bitcoin and it's faster. Unlike Bitcoin which is probably longer and more expensive in terms of fee, although in one side I think let's see and treat as another way to pay stuff if I don't have money in my e-wallet.

Aside of that, more adoption of Bitcoin is great and being able to pay more stuff with Bitcoin is always welcome especially to bring more people into Bitcoin.

So did you pay for any items with bitcoin yourself?  I appreciate you sharing this story with us.  I'm curious as to how his cousin "earns a living with bitcoin" and how that made your neighbor want to get involved with bitcoin and start accepting it at his store.  Hopefully he's got a realistic idea of how it all actually works.

I say bravo to him though.  It's important that people use bitcoin as a means of payment in my opinion.  This is how bitcoin adoption will grow, or one way anyhow.

Here and there we'll be able to see cryptocurrency users through some means. Apart, most of the users hide themselves. This is all because of the legality issues around the world. I've come across information from Nigeria, the government haven't announced anything about the legality and people on their own risk continue to use cryptocurrency into different businesses. Even in a petrol station a person working on it have introduced bitcoin payment. Hope the change takes place and lets be part of it by spending on such stores.
