Why would someone try to hide their Bitcoin involvement from their friends that tried to teach them all this while?

I feel somehow about my friend because I just found out that he has been into Bitcoin for a long time, probably before me, what's surprising to me is whenever I tried to enlighten him about Bitcoin he always Shawn me down and say he has no interest..

Today I get to know from a relative of his, who thought that we are into Bitcoin investment together, a coincidence that brings up some suspicious thought, now I am left with thoughts of why he was hiding this all along from me?

At first I though maybe he was scared bringing me along, but it doesn't make any sense because I thought I knew better than him and I needed to teach him.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?

Security and privacy 🔏

The person is just trying to play it safe; you both might have been friends for a long time and share things among each other, but that does not mean the person trusts you enough to tell you about their finances or holdings.

Don't take it personal; to some point, there is actually nothing too bad about keeping such a thing from you. Friendship is not all about knowing each other's secrets.

....

What do you think is probably ongoing here?

Easy... They don't want you to know about their stash. It is never a good thing. Maybe you mean no hard to him but you are definitely going to talk about his wealth and some other people with bad intentions might wanna hurt him. Your friend was wise to hide this information from you and other people. I am saying "was" here because obviously he isn't a wise guy anymore because you know his involvement with crypto now. Rich wise people don't show off with their wealth. Doing that will only bring trouble.

Why would someone try to hide their Bitcoin involvement from their friends that tried to teach them all this while?
Privacy and security  is the major reason why their hide their bitcoin involvement afterall, in bitcoin it no one business and since it encourages privacy.

The thing is that, you dont need to tesch anyone who doesn't want to be thought because their hace their own personal reasons not to.

You dont need to feel that way after all Bitcoin is all about privacy and may be ypu should learn that too, not to be overly open and vocal about your bitcoin involvement and the question is that have tou ever try to jntroduce him to the forum or he just an investor?
Quote

May be he choose not to tell you because the risk he may be personally passing through,  so many bitcoinairs have faced one risk or the other and some time imeven being victim lf scams.

At this point, I advise you to stop assuming and face the reality of how to mind more of your own business instead of getting overly involved in others' financial dealings.

Usually when you enter the world of Bitcoin you start keeping a low profile so as not to compromise your privacy.  In this case your friend may have done this and not talk to you about investing him because he was trying to protect himself.  While you may have made the mistake of exposing yourself.

Privacy, personal safety, possibility of people asking for money... There are a ton of different reason someone, even a close friend, would not tell others about his investments, at the end of the day we're talking about money and people can get jealous or even aggressive regarding this topic. Don't take it personally, that's my advise.

You choose to post this on a public forum full of strangers who cannot directly help your real life situation. Your friend is right to keep their business private and not inform you of it.

It is a simple thing, he don't trust you with the information of his investment.  There is no other way than that.  I understand your friend's action since investment should be kept hidden from prying eyes.

At first I though maybe he was scared bringing me along, but it doesn't make any sense because I thought I knew better than him and I needed to teach him.

Let it go, it is only an ego.  It is really embarassing when we act like we know more than a person when in fact the person is way knowledgeable than us.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?

Your friend loves privacy.  It is simple as that.

Why would someone try to hide their Bitcoin involvement from their friends that tried to teach them all this while?
Privacy being a very obvious reason, so that's the main reason.

Today I get to know from a relative of his, who thought that we are into Bitcoin investment together, a coincidence that brings up some suspicious thought, now I am left with thoughts of why he was hiding this all along from me?

I don't want to speculate on why your friend is hiding it from you, but I'm just curious why you would rather ask us than ask directly what is your friend's reason? Anyways we're just speculating about it for now, while your friend has a plausible answer why hide everything from you.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?
Nothing, your friend may be more certain his privacy is secure if you never find out that he too is involved with bitcoin.

We live in a very dangerous world where your best friend can harm you. I heard a story of a guy who was having a good time with his friends at a bar bragged about his crypto investment. Few weeks later, armed rubbers paid him a visit at his home. After beating him for a while they asked him to transfer his crypto assets to an address they provided or they would kill him. Now... Do you need a soothsayer to tell you that one of his friends was responsible for the rubbery? No you don't. So don't take it personal if your friend choosed to be discreet with his bitcoin investment, I believe he has a very good reason for doing so which could possibly be security.

I have faced the same situation but the other person was not my friend he was a member of our compagin ran by our university,  we spent a week together and he never spoke about BTC and i was like all the time excited about crypto. Well after 1.5 years, like the previous month, i came to know that he was involved in crypto at that time and he was running ads for getting students to teach them about crypto the previous month. So i was like, why would he not share it with me, well then i gave up my thoughts because either we have spent 1 or 2 weeks together i have no right to ask him neither you have any right if your relative or friend wants to hide that information from you it must be due to something.

We all have that kind of friend who never wants to share their success with you, which sadly indicates that they are not true friends so tret them like they tret you and do not sadden your heart. Keep growing and never thought to become like your friend because your nature makes you real, so keep growing and keep that spirit up of teaching others. Because this will make you more educated and that is more important than in being a competition against your friend in terms of knowledge in crypto.

There is nothing inherently wrong with discussing matters related to Bitcoin, as it falls within the realm of financial affairs. However, the reason why your friend chose to hide this information from you remains known only to him. It is possible that he did so to safeguard his privacy. By not disclosing his holdings to you, he avoids the risk of you inadvertently sharing that information with others, potentially exposing his financial situation to a wider audience. Similarly, I personally engage in Bitcoin discussions with my friends but refrain from revealing my own holdings. This approach is driven by a desire to prioritize my privacy and ensure my safety, rather than any other motive.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?
That’s privacy and anonymity, which are part of the Bitcoin standard.

Just because you invest in Bitcoin doesn’t mean that your friends need to know about that or even know that you are into Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, which I am sure is secure for you.

Your friend doesn’t want you to know that he is into Bitcoin investment or that he knows about Bitcoin. That is why he has not given you a listening ear whenever you wanted to teach him about what he already knew, but I commend your effort for wanting to teach your friend about Bitcoin even though you have no idea if he is interested or not.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?
as Nwada001 has said, Security and privacy. it is not uncommon for someone to hide things from people they are close to especially if it involves money. also, financial holdings/investments can be a very personal thing for some people and do not want to share it with anyone or at least outside the family. I have a feeling that his cousin wasn't meant to mention to you that your friend has an investment in Bitcoin.

~
What do you think is probably ongoing here?

Is it a big deal for you that he hid his involvement in Bitcoin for a long time?
TBH, I don't see any problem here. Maybe he is just securing his self, and don't want anybody to know that he's involved into Bitcoin. His showing of no interest is just a strategy so that nobody knows that he knows Bitcoin.

Maybe you're feelings just hurt because you are trying to enlighten him, but the reality is the one who you are enlightening with knows more than you are. Cheesy I guess I'll be more hesitant to share any information about Bitcoin from now on. What's going on here? None. It's just that you can't accept the fact that your friend didn't let you know that he's been into crypto for a long time, and it hurt your feelings because of that thus, you created this thread.

Just move on, and move forward. Maybe do a bit of a brainstorming once in a while. Share more information with each other because for sure both of you can help each other.

I have a different story and it involves security, privacy but also a lack of interest in telling others about my hobby because they were always surprised to hear about success but never interested in the actual inner workings of Bitcoin. It felt almost like they were judging me for it so why even bother? I just mind my own business and prop myself up while not giving them a single clue. Once I’ll be successful enough and they notice, I’m sure they’ll be interested too - but by then, it’s gonna be too late to join my crew. It’s not their business anyway, most people are afraid of risk and will run away from an opportunity that involves it.

just accept the fact that he has his own reasons why he kept so long about his bitcoin involvement. don't make this situation as big deal for the OP. if you are the person who want to share your thoughts to others, this friend maybe is more on securing his privacy. so should not give him cold shoulder for his path taken.

What I think is going on here, just as Nwada have said is, you friend is trying to protect his privacy, maybe he don't want you to know how much he have, all he might see you as the talkative type who can't be trusted with some kind of private information and as such they will think you will go sell them outside.

So it's better they hide it from you and that of other's which they feel insecured about to avoid too much stories and explanation.

It’s not their business anyway, most people are afraid of risk and will run away from an opportunity that involves it.

this also another secure way of investing into something discreetly without the public eye. most people spread negativity when they are not interested in a thing and this could have its effect on you. the best form of success is actually the one you done secretly. as far as bitcoin is concerned it is not yet a thing to boldly talk about because of the government stance on it just. so i see nothing wrong in keeping it to yourself

@OP don't get hurt if your friend keep his investment secret from you.  I believe even his family does not know about his Bitcoin investment due to your friend keeping the data about his investment secure.  It is normal for a cautious person to keep important information especially when it has to do with financing and investment, hidden or secret.  So instead of whining about your friends action, why not understand him?
