What Happened: Fake 5000 BTC Gemini Airdrop

Website:
Code:
 https://winkbit.net/gemini-giveaway/#last-news

I saw this in my twitter feed, unfortunately, it might have been deleted already.

Nevertheless, since there is a big buzz about institutional money coming in in the last couple of days, this scammers created this kind of websites to attract and victimized unsuspecting crypto investors who think that they can double their bitcoins based on the comments by some so called "users".

So just be careful if you see this one.

Yeah, I thought this kind of scam trick from scammers are over, I usually saw this kind of modus way back from 2017-2019.

But it seems that they are not done and continue to just recycle everything, Elon Musk, the Twins and other famous crypto celebrities and using their face to create this kind of sites in hoping that someone will still fall for them this 2023.

You mentioned twitter as well, yeah still a safe heaven for them, despite Elon trying to clear out specially scams like this.

This kind of scam will never be over, the MO never changes, they all work the same way but the sophistication is what made things much better. Fake airdrop will never cease to exist for as long as there are legitimate airdrops out there promoting their own coins. I don't think that it's real celebrities that are in this kind of scheme, maybe some of them are part of it but I don't think everyone is, let's make it clear. Remember that you can easily use a celebrities picture and with AI maybe even fake the voice and the videos as if they're really promoting a scam. No matter the effort, Twitter will never rid of scams unless they do a scorch earth policy to destroy the scammers which might affect legitimate users hence called a scorch earth.

I am not surprised by these scammers who take advantage of the hype about a new issue or project or famous names to attract victims, but I am surprised by these simple people who fall victim to fraud every time because of their greed.

Some people never learn, even if they think that this is fraud, because of their greed, they say, "Let's try our luck this time," and because of their greed, they suffer wallet hacks or lose their money.

As for Twitter, it is difficult to completely prevent these scammers because they can come back every time with a new account and in a new way.

Michael Saylor is another one they often use. Like many scams, they try to expose a large number of people to the scam and if only a few people fall for it, it is profitable for them. They are usually quite successful, moreover. I remember the first time I saw one, I had Youtube on in the background while I was doing other things and I saw Saylor talking while a message appeared below saying that if you send x Bitcoin to such and such address, as a giveaway they would give you back double. To disguise it they put that you could only send a certain maximum amount, when if you think about it it's BS because if it was real, you could send from other addresses to skip the amount.

We will not fall but the bad thing is that there is always someone who ends up falling, so they do not stop making these ads.

You're right, but then again, if this is a very effective method for them, they are going to repeat it over and over again. Just might take them 5 minutes to create a new website and but a domain at a cheap price.

But then when someone falls for it, they are potentially going to earn 10x of what money they shell out. So it's going to be cyclical, every other celebrities are going to be hijack, so don't be surprised that it is still prevailing up to this day.

The site is now marked deceptive when I tried to access it, no platform or personalities will dare offer a huge giveaway like this we are not 2012 anymore, and 5000 Bitcoin at the current price is 152.8 million and the Wink brothers isn't that super generous to airdrop this huge amount, it's the same scheme, verify your address so they can send you your airdrop, scammers never get tired of this and we will never get tired of reporting it.

Even if they put Elon Musk on a banner or speak with AI or any of the rich people in the world about a giveaway for much less than 5000 bitcoins, I am sure that thousands of people will not fall into this trap, which is outdated, but the greedy category that has zero experience who will connect their wallets to the phishing site their wallets will be stolen, because if they ask themselves (what will the Winklevoss brothers or Musk and others benefit from publishing a giveaway with this amount of bitcoins? Do they, for example, want to waste their money for free? And have they ever done that? The answer is no; that's a sufficient answer that makes people ignore these false giveaways and phishing and scam sites on Twitter, and to report these sites will be positive to reduce fraud, so we have to be positive.

I saw this in my twitter feed, unfortunately, it might have been deleted already.
How many times are we going to see scam in this format?
This is not unfortunate if it got deleted already, but this is nothing new and I dont know who is getting scammed with cheap fake airdrop tricks.
Few years ago I could understand if someone lost money with this scams but not anymore.

This kind of scam is not a new thing, so people should be aware that it is a scam, this is what happened when people click on the 'Official link to get BTC'

Nothing fancy, they basically just ask to send some Bitcoin for verification, again not a new trick, will definitely just take those BTC away and never send anything back. Good catch by OP tho, just surprised that this type of scam is still a thing.

Do we need to create such topics to prove that they are scammer, this scam is spreading faster than the possibility of closing such sites, understanding it was the number of threads that we create are the fastest, so awareness and educating beginners how to identify fraud and telling them that no one gives money for free will help reduce the spread of such scam.

This kind of scam is not a new thing, so people should be aware that it is a scam, this is what happened when people click on the 'Official link to get BTC'

I first stumble this kind of Send me Bitcoin first to test or verify your address scheme five years ago and they keep modifying and updating the scheme, I guess it's still effective which is why they keep using this scheme, I wonder after five years will we still see this scheme, they take it down had a cooling period and when the bull run is coming when there are new investors coming in, it will resurface again.

I guess when we preach and help people to invest in Bitcoin, part of this is teaching this scheme we don't want new investors to experience this because it will motivate scammers and schemers to continue using this scheme.

All these ancient gimmicks and tricks used by scammers do not yield result anymore. Anybody who falls for such is just ignorant of themselves and lacks information on new innovations. Although people still fall for them but as a result of their inability to decipher the original from the fake. Till tomorrow people would still fall for this trash of a Scam all in the quest for more profits.

Thanks for the advice guys, probably too late but I have changed the image and crop it. But no worry, nothing that's not already everywhere on the internet, so no big deal.

Yeah there is always a new guy who just know about crypto that is too naive and thinking that they can get rich overnight, there is only so much we can do to help those people tho.

They are truly some misguided souls who want to loot the money of those investors who aren't well aware of crypto-currencies, but delved into this sphere because of their greed. The investors want to earn a lot of money in short amount of time, and those scammers take advantage of those greedy investors greed, and in the process they loot the money out of wallets of those newbie investors.

Such scammers are on every social media platform these days. I have seen such type of scams on Facebook, and the scammers were using Facebook ads to attract users to a platform where a user can earn huge Airdrops of many newly launched coins The worst thing about those scams is that they force the users to invite their friends if they want to get the Airdrops in their wallets. I even saw such sites where they had proper implementation of Metamask, and they were asking users to connect their Metamask wallet to earn the rewards.

It's sad that these scammers are keep on doing the same trick because it's effective on their end and there are people that they're able to fool.

Nope, we may not fall on this one because we're aware of this tactic. But everyday, there's a potential person that comes to these traps and will result into a successful scam from these scammers. They could be ignorant as per description but we all come to that point that we don't know a thing or two until we learn a lesson or we listen to the advises and guides on how to avoid such.

If we are to consider the rate of what they are offering on airdrops i will first advise some to be careful with them because it's likely to be fake, that amount is pretty much to believe it's real on airdrops just like that, we have also been encouraging people not to always develop interest on offers like this because they aren't too sure to be true, many now take their time to research well about them before developing any cordial relationship with them by what they offers.

This kind of giveaway are easily being entrapped by those who are desperate of making double portion of their bitcoin by hastily wanting to join the airdrop and are often victimizing users online. Come to think of this whom do you think would want to release such volume of bitcoin to run an airdrop even if its possible there should be a way participants should partake on the events for them to qualify they most have been holding some particular coin or token for them to anticipant on the airdrop depending on the percentage of holdings per users.
There are lot of people out there today that have fell victim due to fake airdrops, we must be very careful otherwise we could get victimized in a regular basis.

Nope, we may not fall on this one because we're aware of this tactic. But everyday, there's a potential person that comes to these traps and will result into a successful scam from these scammers. That's true if you are not aware of never read this scheme you could fall into this trap, or you can ask and be safe it depends on your level of greed, which is why people I teach or recommend investing in Bitcoin to be aware of this scheme and always do research because you are your own bank and its always targeted by scammers and hackers and you are the only person that can save your portfolio.
You always have to do one thing always do your research.

Oh Yes, Michael Saylor is also one prominent figure that they also love to used because up to now they are buying bitcoin and remains bullish. I remember Charles Hoskinson of ADA very vividly, during the height of the bull run as he become the face being used by scammers. As for Youtube, really hard to distinguished as well as again, this criminals are using AI now. So there will be a lot of investors that are going to fall for it no matter what as they thought it's the real individual hyping this program or promoting certain websites.
