If you don't want mining coins in the value of cents, then forget about it. It's a low spec CPU in terms of mining, you will even be lucky to make any profits, if you consider the cost of power in your locality.

These approximations of calculators can give you a rough idea of how much you might earn.

In that case, forget about mining with your current hardware.

Your only chance is to leave your CPU running, mining solo and hoping to get lucky enough to find a block. However, there's very little chance of this happening with low-end hardware. It would be a waste of electricity, and you'd be better off buying coins directly with that money. Because, for example, even if you solo mine XMR on your own, even if by some miracle you have a block, you'd only earn around 0.8 XMR, and that could take several years.

To mine, either you invest the means (financial, infrastructure, electricity) and you do it properly, or you don't and you buy your coins directly. If you have nothing to invest, it's better not to waste your time and risk damaging your hardware.

(tdlr : integrated graphics won't help in case of mining, and a i5 2400 is way far of being profitable)

In fact, if I was him, I would just sell off that PC to fetch whatever dollars it can and then buy an altcoin that I believe could grow in price in the next bull Market. It's so easy to do this in a bear market knowing that in 1–2 years when the bull market is back, the coins or tokens can easily go x5 ROI and above. Now there is no way he will get even a half of x5 ROI in the 1–2 years using his current hardware to mine

On such an old processor, there is now nothing to mine even on free electricity.
Processors and video cards in such a market give little profit and have a long payback period, and you should not start mining on a processor that is more than 12 years old.

As Bitcoin_Arena , JayDDee and FP91G already have written with that pc it makes no sense to mine if you looking for profit.
The best thing you maybe can do with PC ist setup an Node on it or buy you some Coin you can stake on there.
But the best solution if you dont need that PC anymore is as Bitcoin_Arena said , sell it and buy some Coin.

Such a computer is difficult to sell. New motherboards are no longer sold for such a socket, and this PC is still not bad for browsing the Internet. I have also used weaker PCs for internet. It is possible to invest $50-60 in cryptocurrency, but he needs another computer to study coins.

I usually recommend people mine with what they have to get a feel for mining before spending big money on mining equipment.
But that's about learming, not making quick profit. But a i5-2400 is no longer any use for learning because most pools set minimum
difficulty too high to find shares regularly. The iGPU was never of any use for mining.

The simplest entry to mining would be to buy a GPU for that PC.

And when this PC dies after mining on a video card, do you advise buying a new PC or the same one?
For mining training, it is better to buy a small mining farm with 4-5 video cards, but if you have expensive electricity, above 10 cents, then this hobby will be unprofitable. But will allow you to start mining faster in the new season, which may or may not come.

Coincidentally I have a i5-2400 PC, the first device I ever mined with. I still use it as a rig for 4 GPUs. The only other upgrade
is the PSU. It's not worth replacing if it died, I'd scavenge the GPUs and PSU and use them elsewhere.

For broken motherboards, there is a good replacement in china. The motherboard socket is compatible with your processor. I was wrong that there are no new motherboards for your socket in China. In customer reviews it is written that these are new motherboards and not after repair.

You can mine monero with 2400 cpu but it will give you 3-5cents per day  Grin dont know your electricity cost so it might be not profitable at all.

That's heroic mining Smiley $11 a year if the PC doesn't break. You still have to change the thermal paste, so $11 will not be there at the end of the year.
Even if this is a question of a student who lives in a university dormitory and does not pay for electricity, then it is better for him to find another way to earn money.

Thats right that this computer maybe will be hard to sell , but for some stakeable coins it would be doing the job.
I agree to invest some money for some Coins and hold them would be the easiest way.

The simplest entry to mining would be to buy a GPU for that PC.
That also would be an idea , but it depends on how much mining experience and doing the setup for it he has.
Some new PSU for it and he can start , learning by doing and fails gets him the needed experience.
We all was going trough that at some point.

Unfortunately now there is no time for experiments or experiments. If you want to mine, then you need to have an advantage over other miners in the ability to find new coins, the cost of electricity or the ability to buy and repair equipment cheaply. Any old PC will break quickly, but if it lasts even a year and earns you some dollars, it's not the experience you need.

Thats not true there is always time , specialy for new users for experiments so that they get themself some experience that is needed for mining and setting up things.
If everybody thinks the same way about that you doing then miners will be getting stuck or have no idea how to do.

If you want to mine, then you need to have an advantage over other miners in the ability to find new coins,
Really ? Sounds like you have all knowen before you started mining .
Dont know when you started , but i started in the end of 2011 and in 2012 around that was exactly the time you describe now.
Today its more community friendly as it was back in the days when i started , so why not help new users that have questions.

I started mining a few years later than you, but back then there were very few miners and a lot of home mining opportunities.
I don’t understand what kind of experiments we can talk about now, when there is a lot of information about each video card, overclocking options and profit on all algorithms. Now it's a business. If a beginner has expensive electricity, then even if he is the most experienced miner, he will not be able to earn on mining.

Unfortunately now there is no time for experiments or experiments.

On general mining nowadays anyone can buy a ready made GPU rig for the price of a single card (price of 2021 I am talking about  when the price were the highest) and someone can have it setup for him to use a miner like Nicehash for example and be told to just open an account there use 2FA and just hit the start mining button to mine after setting up his mining address,I know these were very popular back in the days 2020-2021-2022 when many people at eBay and not only there also in my local market place people were selling such rigs at a very expensive price and their main benefit in the description of their ad was "just put it in and let the money flow, you just change the mining address".

Now such rigs cost extremely cheap and anyone who want to try out can do so,no special knowledge needed, just the basics with computer staff.
