To Earn or to Talk, what is Your Role here on Bitcointalk?

   This probably could be the most funny story i  would be sharing here on Bitcoin talk. so yesterday I came across an old friend who used to be a member of this forum. he was actually here before ( last I remembered). it then came to my mind to ask him how he is managing to grow his account here on Bitcoin talk or if he already ranked up to a full member.
I was shocked by his reply,  he said that here on Bitcointalk that there are two sets of people as the name implies, some people are here to continually do the talking, while some others are here earning Bitcoin. he said that he gave up on his account when he noticed that after spending several months trying to create good post he only got just 10 merits and this discouraged him and made him stop using Bitcointalk. as he said this I laughed out my ass. I didn't know what to tell him at that point, but then I showed him my profile. he was surprised and asked me how I managed to earn that much merit in few months.again I smiled and told him that it wasn't just the merit that drove me, but my ambition to learn and earn from Bitcoin talk. before we departed, he  told me that he was going to login into his old account and see if he can earn some merits.
so I'm just sharing this story here, as an advice for the newbies and every one here on Bitcoitalk who finds it difficult to attain merits and rankup. going through the forum sometimes I find so many account that haven't been registered for a very long time these accounts are very good in creating post and earning merits. I try to learn from them and understand how they are doing this.
one thing I learnt, was that true according to my friend earning merit is somehow difficult, but if you put all your focus on earning merits, you surely are not going to earn some. all you have to do is to take your time and be creative, learn new things that fits into the Bitcoin ecosystem, be an active member..we all want to earn some little money from Bitcointalk, but if you are not  patient enough, you will According to my friend continue to do the talking, why others earn the Bitcoin from there membership.

just remember that every earner, was once a talker and a learner but some talkers never get to become earners because they never learnt anything. I know that for now I'm still in the talkers section, but some day I will definitely earn from Bitcointalk and also share my success story. so which are you, the Talker or the Earner.

I can't say much because I'm still learning, but it appears that you are more knowledgeable with bitcoin than I am.

Expecting nothing and doing your best at the same time yields the best outcomes.

"off-topic"- Consider those who started with bitcoin and held it until it reached the ATH; if they had expected it to climb to a particular number, they would have sold at $150; similarly, if you publish a post expecting to gain merit, you will be disappointed.




@Justtoons that has been inactive just gave you merit few minutes after your post creation, coincidence or your alt? Or are you trying to initiate some kind of some spray here? Sound like what someone that's crazy as a loon would say, right?

But, really, learning and knowing what you're going to talk about in the forum should be your top priority. You can't just talk about bitcoin if you don't know how to use an SPV client in the first place .

Aside from studying the technical aspects of bitcoin, people should also know when they want to respond to a post. Many people complain that they aren't getting merit despite having a substantial post, but if you look at their posting history, you'll notice that many of their posts were buried on the nth page of the megathread, making them unseeable.  .

Golden rule is: if you have nothing interesting to say, then simply do not make a post.

I understand your friend, because the introduction of the merit system at one time prompted me to pause. But if you don't move towards your goal, then this will never be achieved. You are absolutely right about activity. Without this, nothing will happen, and if your friend has given up, then nothing can be done about it. The great thing is that you take a different approach and you will definitely get what you want.

Concerning a role at a bitcointalk. Why do you put such a categorical question with the choice of either one or the other? It seems to me that the combination is quite possible and many here earn by talking.

To me, I believe there is some level of fairness in this merit system; if you put your effort into making a good post, you will earn some merits. If your friend had worked hard enough, as he has said regarding his post quality, he could have earned more merit for himself. I don't know how the system worked back then when he was active here, and I don't know how long that might have been. But all I could say is that there might have been more to his absence than just merit.
 
If I am to use myself as an example, from the beginning I thought making good posts required some kind of magic power or something, but the more I spend my time in real life, the more I realize that what I taught was actually not the case. My first merit award motivated me to put more effort into learning more things around the forum, and in doing so, I also shared my own side of the idea, which earned me confidence and merit as a reward for my efforts.
 
I added more of my time here when I realized how beneficial the forum could be to me. That's when I ranked up to a member rank, and back then there were few campaigns that were still accepting member ranks on their signature pay roll. Those earnings gave me more inspiration to keep on pushing, telling me that it's not all a waste of time to be here after all; it's not just learning but learning and at the same time earning.
 
In everything we do in life, consistency matters a lot. Your friend, whom I might consider a quieter, did not get the result he was expecting from the beginning, but that does not mean it will all be the same in the coming days. He should have realized how everything works by himself earlier before he could have even engaged in that conversation with you.

An inactive account? You could call the account the OP's alt, but meriting a post is not enough evidence to say an account is someone else's Alt. That account doesn't look active to me, looking at the post history and merit earned, and it's been working for the past few days.

Long story short, at the start i was a earner (i was earning money from bounty campaigns) then after 1+ year i shifted to the listener category and after making my first post in the local thread i shifted to the talker category and now i am in all the three categories of (listener, talker and Earner).

And i didn't find the story of your friend funny but sad though because we all must have faced the situation in which we make some good posts and didn't get the appreciation as expected (in the form of getting merits and positive replies). Which, might have discouraged, who knows how many friends like your one to leave this forum. But one thing i have learned in my stay on BTT is that you always get appreciation and positive feedback. Because if you make some post and one person finds out some mistake and gives you a sweet lesson (which of course does not act as a sweet one for OP), there must be another person too who will agree with your POV (point of view).

Take an example of this post. Turn it off is a newbie member of BTT, and his reply might seem to you as the one from the bad or unappreciated category. But on the other hand, Maus0728 is the most ranked member of this platform and he/she appreciated your efforts and also shared his opinions too. i hope you understood my point here. We should always try to learn something even by listening or talking or by earning or in the need of getting merits too. we should learn and do work.

I don't  think we have talking or earners rather we  have learners, but what I understand is that anyone who is posting here finds it more enjoyable while contributing and earning merits because then I wasn't that focusing on the merits rather was only looking at my timing because of how my schedule was, looking after family and my daughter made me then wanting to lose interest I never knew of earning here till I gat to know of some fellow having some ads below their post and I asked a local board friend they said I may like apply for a bounty or btc campaign which I never knew how it works but I ended join bounty and at some point I found out that there is a section to earn which I applied.

Then talking of merits I was actually posting and but was that focused in my local board where I got some people who keeps motivating me and asking me to put more efforts and, what ever thing I found too difficult to understand I asked at the local board they would explained more better to me than outside my locals since I never wanted to violate any of the rules, it was from local I grew a bit. Hence I was determined to learn more things about bitcoin than the earnings aspect.

There are no specific styles or topics that you can predict will give you merit. You might spend all the time preparing a post with assurance that it will be merited, but end up not receiving any. One of the reasons for this is the recycling of topics. Most members don't use the search option to check if a particular topic has been discussed. So they spend time writing on an over-researched area and end up getting nothing. If your post is innovative, creative, and solves problems, merit will be given.

If you are not willing to learn in this forum, you will not earn. To earn you must build your account and to build an account you must get merit. Many people don't want to patiently learn but they want to hurriedly earn.

OP, I'm going to be brutally honest with you.  As I was reading the above, it struck me that your story sounds completely contrived, i.e., that you just made all of this shit up about you and your friend's conversation.  It doesn't ring true to me that two people who know each other in real life would have a chat like the above.

Is is possible such a dialogue could happen?  Yes.  Given how much bullshit gets slung on this forum, is it likely it did happen?  Nope.

If your friend really does exist and gave up on the forum because he wasn't earning any merits, then he was here for the wrong reasons anyway and would have been in the "earner" category just like you probably are.  Not that I think membership can be divided into your earner/talker categories anyway, because that's ridiculous; there are plenty of members here who are in sig campaigns because they figure why not get paid to post if that's what I'd be doing anyway?

Yeah  I have to agree with you that there are basically two set of people here, those who actively make meaningful contributions  to the forum even with high and very high ranked accounts and yet have no single interest to join tye earning team, while there are others who are here basically  with the mindset to start earning and which ever category one finds himself, I must say its not bad as one must be an active and creative writer to be earning on the forum and you must agree with me that ranking up on the forum sometimes might be some very difficult  task and it seems discouraging when ones efforts aren't rewarded with merits especially  when the expectations are high.

I don't know how best to put this but I know that so much expectations at the long run always leads to disappointment and my advice to newbie  always is to stay active and make meaningful contributions to the forum without expectations because a good post might not be noticed at the instance and may take some time but there are highly ranked members and staff of the forum that usually does random profile and post review and if luck shines on you and your profile is been remembered, you might not be merited and then miss out, that's why  its always important  to make quality  post.

I'm sorry@ The sceptical chymist, if I said something wrong in my post. You are one of the persons I look up to here on Bitcointalk and won't want to get on your badside. But if you take a look at my post history, I usually share stories from my experience in real life and I don't think I would just sit down and start preparing lies to post. I had different taughts of not posting this earlier, but I taught it would be of help to the newbies who would want to give up on their accounts here on Bitcointalk.

I signed up in 2014 and practically knew nothing about cryptocurrencies. I was a lurker, reading a variety of threads before actually posting something. Everything I learned was through this forum, and to be honest, I didn't bother trying to earn money before I could hold a proper discussion and create productive posts. The point isn't to earn money; it's a process that is probable to happen if you're creating decent content, but my goal wasn't to make money through the forum when I registered; it happened along the way. Even if I wasn't earning money through signature campaigns, I'd still be active in the forum because it has a ton to contribute that may lead you to earning money through the knowledge you acquire.

Sadly, no matter why he joined the forum, giving up is not an option for your friend. Always put in a lot of effort to get what you desire since no one can assist you in doing so and you should trust that everything takes its own time. He ought to be able to adopt this mindset and use it in other areas of his life

There are no quality forum posts that go unnoticed or fail to receive merit. If your friend is not receiving merits for his posts, it only means that the posts are not deserving of merit. Rather than giving up, he should instead concentrate on learning how to improve the quality of his posts. He should also shift his attention away from earning merit and toward making contributions that will benefit the forum.

Some people get the wrong information about the forum from the person that introduce them to the forum that it is a place to earn from,and when such person register and become a member,he will put all his attention on how to earn from the forum. We have seen it from bounty campaigns participants who don't care about learning anything on the main boards but are only meeting up with their posts. Joining the platform alone, you must be a listener and a learner then a talker followed by you earning some stipends from the platform you belong to. Before joining a platform, you must have had a drive and passion for doing so and this you have developed should be able to assist you set a standard for yourself on that platform so as to set you up for the task you have signed up for.
For instance, someone joining this platform should be able to know that it is all about bitcoin and crypto discussion and therefore should be able to live up to expectations. Looking at the merit system, one needs to know that they do not need to remain at the listener and learner session but to step up to talker and earner level after they must have had a good time doing the other.

Earning on board this platform is a thing of choice. There are many well placed members here who do not think of working here to earn. Some are here just for fun, likewise some are here to contribute to the growth of this platform while others feel like earning and contributing as well. So in that case one can take sides as it favors them, but it is good one works diligently in adding more value so as to gain the desired recognition one deserves here  because that would  place you in the limelight as you desire.

If your friend gave up simply because he wasn't getting merits, then he probably joined forum for wrong reasons. C'mon, it's discussion forum after all and not getting merits shouldn't be reason to stop discussing and leave forum. If he came here just to earn money and lack of merit doesn't allows him to do that, then probably better don't even start. It's nothing wrong if you want to earn some money here, but if you're trying to do it when you're not even interested in crypto, then we get such outcome.

A fair majority of the members here on the forum are interested in earning or are active participating in some sort of signature campaign or an off forum paid campaign. But this does not warrant the tons of threads made about earning, bounties, merits and the likes.

This is primarily a discussion forum and anyone who wants to rank up here has to be interested in learning about Bitcoin and put in an effort to do so. The opportunity to earn from your account is an added incentive but we should not put it on a pedestal like it's the motive for the creation of this forum.

Member in the forum don't just fall into the talk or earn category.  There are also lurker, reader, spammer, troll etc...  Aside from that many that you categorized as talker are at the same time earner since it would be a waste if one keep on talking when there is an option to earn from it.

This could be the case since those who have lots of knowledge about Bitcoin had been in the forum for so long and possibly had accumulated tons of BTC that they can be able to sustain themselves even without participating in the forum activity that will enable them to earn every time they do their talking.

A few members fall into this category of having accumulated so much Bitcoin. And there are some who are very picky with campaigns they join. They would most times just post for the fun of learning and impacting if they do not find a suitable one to promote.
