Alot of persons on this forum always advise newbies on post quality.my question is simple and on behalf of other newbies like my self is it necessary to monitor your activity and post count in comparison with your merits

I would say it is both. First the number of activity or post per merit doesn’t guarantees a person has a quality poster, there cases where some could get close or above 50 merits on a single thread imagine this person has less than 40 activity or even post, it could simply be mistake that with higher merit this person posts are of quality but that doesn’t mean anything because aside the one or two thread that those merits were shared on the rest posts could be of less quality.

Secondly the person with an higher merit might be as a result of posting in various threads that merit aren’t distributed on like the gambling section or even if the person has post quality most of the posts were skipped for merit unknowingly and that is why the likes of the Sceptical Chymist, fillippone, Ratimov and Loyce V have threads that you could report those posts on for review.

That aside, the other thing again is when someone has a very larger number of posts varying from merit like 200+ activity and a single merit or less than 10 then it can easily be said that this person doesn’t post quality stuffs and that is he gets overlooked for merits. Most of these people are easily fond of creating meaningless threads

My friend its pretty simple, quality post actually speaks for themselves  in terms of merits that would be awarded to them and as a newbie, you can only make quality post if you dedicated your time to read carefully and contributed actively to your best knowledge in discussion that are currently held in the forum but there is the fact that you have to actually have something upstair about the topic you are replying before you contribute, so reading more will definitely help you as a newbie to post quality post which by all means attracts merits.

Post quality, from the name is very simple. It just means that as a newbie who want to rank up here on Bitcoin talk, you have to created good outstanding post. A post that is worthy of discussion. Sometimes newbies tend to spam the forum with lots of different shitposting that doesn't really make sense(I was ones a newbie) in search for merit. The merit system was implemented to help reduce such acts for newbies and other members of the forum. So, quality posting is one thing that you are required to learn if you want to rank up.

As a newbie I don't think that should be a burden to you right now, if you focus on trying to balance your merits with activities and post, then you will end up not earning merits. Merits are earned when you engage with post and give a quality reply. But not all post you make are certainly to give you merits. And don't forget you need merits to rank up successfully so you've gat to follow the rules of the forum and try checking out the links provided for you by BIT-BENDER, they will help a long way.

What’s to be considered quality post is subjective, there is no one way to look at it. From the two examples you gave, the post quality of the two users cannot be determined by simply their activity/merit ratio because there are local boards where one can easily get 50 merits posting there, also participating in contests and positing in wall observer can boost one’s merit as there is a lot of merit spree in these sections. It’s often said that the rank of an account doesn’t mean the user is a bitcoin expert.

Merit is not an indication of post quality so you cannot make a direct correlation between the number of merits, activity, and posts.

The general idea is that there should be a good post to merit ratio which is indicative that the member makes quality posts and gets rewarded with merits more than not.
But it doesn't matter much as long as you're learning with time spent on the forum.

There is no general view of the makeup of a quality post because it could be subjective. A quality post is writing that fits in the discussion, is well-developed, is coherent, and is correct. A quality post should add value to the discussion through the addition of new ideas or exposing the discussion to other important areas. A quality post might also ask or answer relevant questions from the discussion. It shouldn't derail the thread or written in poor grammar or language. It should be written in a manner that others will comprehend it's contents.

Not everyone that has merits that is greater than activity is a quality poster. Indeed, merit will always be given to a quality post but members can get merit through some other means apart from posts. I have seen members get merits from humanitarian activity, competition or discoveries. Understand that quality posters will always get merits but it shouldn't make you assume that low-merit earners are not quality posters. Maybe some of them don't post on boards that are usually visited by merit sources.

The quality could be mean as a subject or in a objective way. For getting objective this reflects the knowledge you share to the specific content which answers the question, contribute to the content that could benefit the community, anothe is being subjective people seeing those contents when they like the perspective of the creator those people receives a merit it does not mean that you have low number of goodness not always your content is bad, but sometimes merit reflects how you create a good number of contents.

If someone isn't getting a lot of merit, it's not a sign that most or all of their posts are bad. Merit is a limited resource and typically it's awarded for outstanding posts and valuable insights. If you are making average posts, you might be not getting a lot of merit while not actually being a shitposter. Also, using total earned merit can show incorrect results, because sometimes there are posts that earn a lot of merit, dozens or even hundreds; so a user can have a large share of their merit coming from just a few posts, while the rest of their posts are average.

So a better stat would be median merit per post if you want to compare users' merits.

quality posts that are often recommended to many beginners are not a matter of the number of posts, merit and activity.
quality posts are posts that we make and in them have informative / solutive / critical value.
simply put, these posts and posts are not just conveying pleasantries but rather a post that has "added value" when discussed in this forum with other members.

I personally am also still learning to make quality posts.

And what I understand is that quality posts are
✓ Easy to understand posts
✓ Posts that contain information and insight that readers need
✓ Do not get out of the topic discussed
✓ Do not copy and paste from other people's writings, unless only using it as a reference for thoughts and the like. and except when including the source of thought.

I think that's all for the beginning that must be understood. And it doesn't take much to check activities and merits and compare them. but I also see that people who have quality posts are great. they always have an amount of Merit that exceeds the amount of their activity in this forum.

No I don't think so, high merit per post count doesn't always means the person always make a good post, it's not a secret that there are many people abusing merit, I mean not everyone is abusing merit but it's truly many. And if that's true than I am considered as a low quality poster, tho maybe I am, but I always try to make my post informative and adding something to the discussion, not always give a solution but I won't just type useless stuff and shitpost.

Now, what I consider as a good post, - I don't think that there are a standard for an actual good post that everyone is agreed in this forum except the post shouldn't plagiarize anything, so it might be very subjective -

• If you are making a new thread, you need to search whether similar thread already made before, if yes read the previous thread and if your still can't find the answer just join the discussion and ask your question in that thread
• If you are making a new thread or replying to a please make it at least understandable, use something like gramarly for tidying up your post, it's not rare that I saw some post that are not even understandable
• don't talk bullshit, only talk about something that you are really have the knowledge about it, so you don't accidentally spread false information
• Never do plagiarism, it will get you banned

I think that's all you need to make a 'good' post or at least 'fairly good' post, I know my standard is not that high on good post, but I think this is the minimum requirement that you are not considered spamming with your post.

Do you think that every merited post is a quality post? But I remember merits were awarded for being honest, sarcastic, only for emojis.

So it's subjective and you can't compare one is better if they only made less posts but have more merit count than posts. So the important factor for someone to make posts with value and relevance rather than solely aiming to increase their post/merit count. However combination of high activity, merit count, and quality posts can indicate a well-rounded and valuable contributor to the forum.

While merits is generally perceived as a tool that rewards good and quality posts, I wouldn’t use just someone’s merit count to just label the person a good and quality poster.
Merits are given to posts whom one perceived are good and quality or even funny posts. Hence, what could be described as quality posts could vary between users.

Generally, I would say a quality post could be said to be posts that are engaging, informative, accurate and relevant to the discussions at hand.
When people want to read what you’ve posted as there are things to be learnt, then you could say you’re a quality poster.

Earned merit and merit per post ration don't reflect post quality of a user if you simply look at two numbers. A member can get merit from exellent posts (quality makes sense here) or from funny posts (no quality at all).

You must look at merited posts and verify their quality. If merited posts have good quality, those numbers likely reflect quality of the user. Oppositely, you can doubt about quality of the user.

If I make a meme and get 50 merit (max cap in one month from one forum member), it won't make me like a quality member with 1 post and 50 merit, merit per post ratio is 50.

I thought you were asking about quality content. Why do you provide an example of getting merit against the number of activities or posts? There's no need to think about it, or you'll be stressed out.

Let it all flow and enjoy. It should be noted that:

1] Merit delivery is not moderated
2] Delivery of merit can be subjective (Mostly not)
3] If you need merit, many threads can be used to get merit
4] Find your own way in forums

Merit is not a benchmark for those who are mentioned as quality posters. Merit is also used as a tool to appreciate members to other members because of the contributions made to the forum and other members who feel helped.
perhaps the OP has been reading at this point regarding how to create a thread or post that builds on the discussion. You can share information that you really control. and it opens up better opportunities for you to collect more Merit. what needs to be understood, the good quality mentioned may be different in the assessment between members. so if you've made a post that you think is good but haven't gotten the Merit, you don't need to be discouraged. several Merit sources are willing to review your post.

Sometimes we are too concerned about meeting a certain post standard that we forget one important tool about posting and that is originality and uniqueness. Aside from the fact that your post must be insightful and educative, some posters try to imitate a certain pattern of posting style and forget to be unique.

I think it's a bit frustrating to see that you make quality posts yet the reward (merits) are not forthcoming. The best thing to do is to keep up the work, before you know it, you'd get not just merits where you didn't expect it and also, the more quality content you drop, you become recognized by merit sources in the forum.

Not really. Activity only significant to note when you are closing requirements if you are gonna rank soon enough. But doing a quality post means more and merits are just a proof of that since people are giving off those to users sharing a helpful post (quality one I supposed). There are specific activity needef for each rank but that accompany with prerequisite merits too. But dont mind that and keep doing contributions. Sooner or later it would make sense to you.
