In addition to what you have mentioned above,if the person wants to stop,he needs to stay away from people that still gambles,like his friends or colleagues. If not he might be tempted to gamble again and it wouldn't be of any help to him.

I concur to your last statement,  that's exactly the way you will feel when you are superstitious about your gambling habit, despite all your loses you might enquire, you will still have a strong deceptive feeling about your gambling and feel that winning is a must which can in turn reck you and make you frustrated.
