Hi,

Just want to know some more about using the electrum mobile wallet for lightning payments. I've been doing some research but have not found too much info on it.

What kind of lightning wallet is it? LND? Core? Or its own design?

Is it also effected when onchain fees are high? (Ex: Channel reserve gets triggered & closes channel).

Thanks in advanced

Follow this guide https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5259973.0

You need your seed/addresses to be bech32 format, meaning that starts with bc1, and after you create bc1 wallet, you need to deposit an amount of 0.002BTC, after that you activate the Lightning Network option and open your channel, you will get the Node ID and use it to connect to other nodes, let's say, for example, that you want to deposit to a local store node, After creating the channel, you will pay the mining fee and wait for 3 confirmations, after which you will not need any additional fees, as the transactions are fast and with zero fees.

You can open/close the channel when onChain network is not congested to reduce the mining fee.

Yes, you can see the "can send" amount in your channels tab which can fluctuate, influenced by the average on-chain fee rate.
But auto-close channel wont happen automatically unless you or the channel's other party triggered it.

It has its own implementation, each of your wallet is its own lightning node.

This depends on your channel's remote node.
If they feel like closing the channel due to inactivity, they might force-close it.
It's out of Electrum client's control.

Try to open a channel with Electrum's trampoline node (when trampoline routing is enabled) and ask the owner to try to keep your channel open.
It's owned by the main Electrum developer: https://github.com/ecdsa
