I am looking to in the future sell bitcoins straight for cash. I have never sold bitcoins before, I just gamble with them so forgive the stupid question.

You ought to post your location... such a proposal is relatively difficult not knowing where you are.
|
Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.
"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.
There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

The main places to exchange BTC<-->Money are Mt. Gox and TradeHill. They are 24/7 exchanges with lots of volume. I find TradeHill easier to use, but Mt. Gox is more popular. If you're feeling more adventurous, there is also #bitcoin-otc, but I've never used it, so I can't vouch for it.

About how many BTC are you thinking you might be wanting to sell? 10 per week? 1000 per day? What is your expected/estimated volume?
And by where are you we are wanting to know what town you live in. For example, I live in Boulder, Colorado so If you happen to live in Boulder, Colorado we could meet and I could give you cash for your BTC. See? That is why we ask where you live.

Bitcoin2cash does this using cash in the mail. I've sold BTC there and received my cash two times so far, and it worked out fine.
With all the promotion that the guy's done, it's surprising that the site never really picked up any major volume.
EDIT: I should add, B2C is an exchange just like MtGox or Tradehill, not a store. Someone must be willing to buy your BTC with the US cash they've mailed into their account.
