Mixin safe review.


Mixin messenger application.

I had first downloaded and installed the Mixin messenger on my mobile device. The installation process was pretty smooth and it downloaded and installed wig very little time.
Upon launching the app, it prompted me to register with a phone number. That didn’t go down so well with me as I would have greatly preferred an email address to register with.  I filled in my phone number and got the verification code almost immediately to finish my registration.

Registration over, I was greeted by a message from Team Mixin, a support bot. I was then quickly went through the guidelines.


Creating a wallet on Mixin messenger app.

It was pretty easy and straightforward.
Using a 6 digit pin, I created my wallet. I had to confirm the pin about 4 times. I think many might find this exhausting but I thought it was okay and it emphasized how important the pin was.

The wallet supports a wide variety of coins and I choose bitcoin as my preferred coin to test with.
Using the wallet for the very first time, I was advised to test with a small negligible amount for my first deposit. I deposited said small amount in bitcoin and it got credited to my wallet after 3 confirmations. I like the fact that your pending deposit would be shown awaiting the minimum 3 confirmations needed to credit to your wallet.

Adding contacts on the Mixin messenger.

I think it’s pretty obvious your contacts should have and also be registered on the app. You would need either their phone number used during registration or their Mixin ID to add that person to your contacts.
Sending coins to your contacts is really easy. I think the app might see a lot more users as people could converse with each other as well as sending and receiving money.


Mornin key download and installation

The app wasn’t free for download on the App Store as it was sold for approximately a dollar($0.99). I got past that by downloading the APK file of the app and later installed it on my device.

After installation, I launched it and registered. Registration was pretty easy and uncomplicated. It’s basically an app that helps safely secure your multiple accounts and passwords.
During the setup, you would be required to write down and save your seed phrase given to you for backup purposes.


Creating a new safe.

This process involves going onto the website as I had initially thought this would also have either a mobile or desktop app.
Carefully following the process on creating a new safe, I scanned a QR code from my Mornin key app and was granted authorization. I was then signed in. I was asked to add a contact.

On creating a new safe, I clicked on new safe, named my safe and chose a network for my safe.
Going forward, it required an upgrade to my plan for me to complete the creation of the safe. Choosing and paying $2 for a year on the standard plan using crypto, I could then proceed to finish the creation of my safe.

Depositing coins to my Mixin safe didn’t take much time before I was notified and the coins credited.
Being touted as a safe, the process of withdrawing funds from your wallet is pretty secure.
You would need the approval of the owners as well as the member by scanning a code generated from the Mixin messenger app and the Mornin key app.

After the approvals, I was able to successfully withdraw.

I use Android Phone and Laptop on the process of downloading all necessary apps required to create the safe. I use the scan method to sign in or approve all the transaction that makes the whole process very smooth.


Mixin Messenger

I start my review by downloading the Mixin Messenger on the Playstore since that's the number one requirements to sign in the Mixin Safe website to create safe. The application is very quick to download and install. It only took less than 1 minute just to finish the installation.

I register using my personal number and I manage to create an account quickly because the verification code was received instantly which is impressive because some service like this usually have delay on providing sms code to my country.

The messenger interface is very simple and looks like a telegram app. It's very responsive and the best part is it provides a notification through the mixin system bot on anything that happened to all the website you connected the wallet apps. It even gives me an update on the process when I'm creating the mixin safe and transactions including deposit and transfers as shown on the image below.

What I really like on the Mixin messenger is the crypto wallet because it supports many currency and different blockchain. It has a feature too to know easily what's the top loser and gainer crypto currency that is very helpful on deciding what to buy or sell. Lastly, The ability to customize themes for the background is the highlight to my experience on this wallet because Mixin messenger gives you freedom on socializing, keep safe crypto assets and modify your UI through themes.

Mornin Key

Same with Mixin Messenger, I download this application on the playstore but it requires me to pay ~1$ before I can install the app, The app is very simple to use because it just a typical wallet that use to generate keys. I don't explore much this account because I only use this to create safe and use as owner of the safe/Approving transaction on safe. The application scan is responsive which makes the process very smooth when I'm using it.

Mixin Safe

After I setup both Mixin Messenger and Mornin Key account. I go to https://safe.mixin.zone/ and head over to the safe. The first thing I saw is the dashboard, It was plain and simple yet it display all the info needed for the safe. It includes a graph showing the amount and when it was deposited to the safe to easily track all the transactions happening on the safe.

I create the safe using the instruction on the right side. Every step is very is to understand because all the info including the estimated waiting time is included per steps that helps relax on each process when the screen is loading because I knew that it's normal to wait unlike if that info is not available that might push user to panic.

I use Mornin Key to scan the code to become owner of the safe and Mixin messenger app as member. I use only a 1 threshold setup because I don't know anyone that I can trust using same apps. After I finish all the setup, I pay the fees for subscribing the basic plan because that's the only way you can have 1 safe. I pay using Bitcoin and the safe was active the moment my Bitcoin payment received 1 confirmation.



Right After my safe was created and active. I immediately deposit bitcoin to my safe. Mempool is very busy that time so it took my deposit more than 12hrs to receive but that is due to Bitcoin blockchain network.

I withdraw my funds after waiting for my deposit arrives and it surprises me that withdrawal has no transaction fee. I check the TXID of my withdrawal on blockchain, Mixin safe is using high priority transaction fee for withdrawal which is really amazing since there's no fee charge to my withdrawal. I receive the exact amount of my balance to my receiving address. Everything is very smooth from account creation to withdrawal balance from safe.

Suggestion:

-Add a plan to add 1 safe because the premium plan is the 2 safe. The old safe is already useless once all the party involved is already part ways. It's either make the safe reusable for different member involved or add a feature to purchase 1 more safe.

-Ability to delete old safe because it can mistaken to be use for depositing even though all the members involved is already not available that will result to funds loss.

-Add Save Wallet Address feature, This wallet will have pre-approval to all members so that It  will not requires approval of all the party to send balance on address that everyone trusted. This is useful to those people who keep sending balance on same address with different time frame

Setup Process

- Mixin Messenger

At the beginning of the installation, I experienced problems when I found Mixin Messenger not available for my region (Indonesia), luckily I was able to try downloading the apk which was available directly from the mixin site, and it went very smoothly when I tried to register the cellphone number that I listed, and amazingly it didn't there's a problem in the process of sending the verification code sent to my number, I am very impressed, because sometimes we find that there's often a delay in entering the verification code sent to the mobile number in other applications or similar, so this is a very good initial experience, especially for new users who want to try the experience of using this application. And what's more, when ordered to enter 6 pin codes, we were ordered to enter them several times and advised to remember and record them (of course in a safe place), so this really ensures the security of our account in the future.

Even so, I hope the team must find a solution to the problem I experienced regarding the unavailability of the application, especially for the Indonesian region, because we know that Indonesia is one of the largest cryptocurrency adopters in the world.

I also tried to setup the Mixin Messenger Desktop application, the login process is very easy, just by scanning, and giving access by entering a 6-digit Passcode in the Mixin Messenger application on mobile, and that will give access to login to the Mixin Messenger Desktop application.

Then I tried to install the Mornin Key application, and it turned out that this application isn't free to download directly from Playstore, and has a price of about one dollar, fortunately the Mixin site provides the apk for free, very impressive when the team tries to make it easier for users to try use the application. Registration is relatively easy, because I only need to enter the desired Username, then enter a 6-digit passcode to secure the account. After that, I was amazed when I was immediately told to back up the Mnemonic Phrase. This really helps users because we sometimes forget or are in a hurry. so it really gives a good influence for the future when experiencing unwanted things.

- Mixin Safe

The login setup process in Mixin Safe is very easy, just by using the scan feature on the Mixin Messenger application, then agreeing to the Authorization Request on the Mixin Messenger application.

User Experience

After I did the installation and registration on the Mixin Messenger application, I was very impressed with the initial appearance which was very user-friendly, for example, it was easy for me to understand the Wallet section, the Hidden Assets feature, checking the Hidden Assets feature, and Dapps that are connected by the Connected Dapps feature. Likewise with the Mornin Key Application, the Scan feature makes it very easy to connect to Mixin Safe accounts, all of them have features that are very easy to understand, what I highlight is the Scan feature, because the Scan feature makes it very easy for users to access. And also the main thing for me is the Messenger Mixin Display which is very pleasing to the eye, and also with the Light/Dark feature it can make it easier for us to set the look as we like.

Meanwhile, the Mixin Safe login only requires authorization from the Mixin Messenger application, and for each transaction process requires authorization from the Mornin Key application (which I use) for the security of the user's account, and it really provides the best security for users. And I really like the availability of using other tools to create Mixin Safe, like Ledger, Bitcoin Core CLI, which are all very secure, even though there were issues with Ledger a while ago.

Transaction Process

For the Transaction process, I will divide it into 3 processes, namely Deposit Transactions for the Upgrade Plan, Deposit Transactions in the Safe, Withdrawal Transactions:

1. Deposit Transactions for the Upgrade Plan

I tried to create Mixin Safe, and then it cost me about 2$ to do the Upgrade Plan for testing, and I sent the fee through my personal wallet, uniquely when I have made a shipment and still need confirmation, Mixin Safe immediately got Txid and did repeated checks (refresh) on the Mixin Safe browser to get Confirmation News quickly, and this is very impressive when Mixin Safe just gets the Txid without us sending it, again this makes it very easy for users.

And what's more, when I deliberately overpaid the amount of payment to upgrade, I got a notification from Mixin Safe that I had overpaid, so I could make a refund, it's impressive to know this, because if we accidentally make a large enough overpayment, we can be greatly helped by the notification and assistance for this Refund. But I don't really understand how to use the Refund Code because there's no information on how to use it on that tab (picture below), I think we can use the refund code when making transfers and pasting the Refund Code in the Memo column.

After Successfully getting information that Payment Success. We can immediately create a Mixin Safe account, and of course another authorization is needed from the Mornin Key application for security reasons, of course.

After successfully creating Mixin Safe, I immediately found that My Safe was "Active". But when I checked the "Recovery" tab, I experienced something that confused me when I found that my status was "Expired", I think this is an error, there needs to be improvement in development in this section. Even if it's not an error, I think it needs further notification on the tab, here's what it looks like:

3. Withdrawal Transactions

Next, I made a withdrawal from my Mixin Safe to my Personal Wallet, and it also went smoothly when initially it required authorization via the Mixin Messenger application by doing a very easy scan, and then required authorization to approve the transaction via Mornin Key, then I'm left with waiting until the transaction process has been sent, naturally when this process requires authorization and approval for our security, and then just waiting for network confirmation to arrive at the withdrawal destination wallet. Here is an example of the final process:

Summary

I feel safe and comfortable using Mixin's services, such as using Mixin Messenger ( especially for the Mixin Safe Service that give information for all transactions by giving the notifications on mobile) , Mixin Safe, also with the Mornin Key. So far, regarding the display, it is quite satisfying when there's nothing to confuse the existing features, regarding the transaction process everything went smoothly and felt very safe when using it with the security provided. However, according to my review, the thing that needs to be fixed is the unavailability of this application in the Indonesian region, I think maybe some other countries have also experienced something like this, and this needs attention for the Mixin team for a comfortable user experience, especially for new users. Likewise with the "Expired" status that I experienced, I think there needs to be an improvement for this or you can inform the user about it so that there's no user misunderstanding.

Installation of mornin key and Mixin Messenger

After looking for the app, there was a cost to pay to obtain the mornin key, which cost roughly ₦495.00 to download. I purchased and installed the mornin key without encountering any problems. The download and installation of the program took only a few seconds, and after a few easy steps, I successfully opened an account. And the purpose of the mornin key is to help in setting up the maxin safe.
 
This was the first interface, and from it, there are two methods to get the mornin key: establish an account or import an account, and you must create a novice account.  Most notably, the seed phrase, popularly known as "not your keys, not your coin." This clearly means that is the keys is lost then there is zero access to the wallet. Also can choose to use biometrics or passcode for security reasons.

Searching for the app on Google was quite successful, and after a successful installation, I was asked to input my phone number to get it validated, and you must set a six-digit password and enter it at least four times to receive adequate confirmation. And the few guidelines to complete installation. The bot with guidelines popped up after completion of the signup, also giving information on how secure it is to transfer your assets.

1) Visiting the maxi safe website and go to prepare wallet and click o mornin key to scan the provided bar code. And approval was giving to login the maxin safe.

3. Then move to the upgrade plan to gain access to your bitcoin receiving address and pay around $2 for the upgrade plan, which includes multiple payment methods such as USDT in different transfer chains. And the plan varies depending on which one anyone choose to subscribe to.
     
    
And when the payment was made, it took a few minutes for the status to become active I scanned while completing the payment, and no errors were discovered throughout the upgrade process.

Since the deposit was already active after the upgrade, a particular quantity of Bitcoin was sent to maxin safe, and the deposit was confirmed without hesitation, the balance reflected on the balance, and on the other hand, I was having some issues with the mempool scenario.

I think, I already spend enough time with Mixin apps and I’m ready to write this review. Allright, let’s start!

Mornin Key

When I check the website, I would like to point out that it has a very simple and user-friendly use. There is a simple and concise information about the product and service offered on the website and these are explained in a way that even a beginner user can easily understand when they read it. Also, Google Play Store and App Store redirect to download the app are also very nicely positioned on the website. Unfortunately, when I scrolled down to the bottom of the website my expectations were not met adequately. Although there are necessary images for social media accounts, unfortunately none of these buttons were working even though I checked a few times. This is definitely a situation that will cause a loss of trust for this type application because the missing of any social media account is a very important obstacle to follow the developments about the service and product. In addition, I searched on the website, unfortunately, I didn’t come across any contact information, privacy policy and user agreement. It may seem a bit normal thing to happen due to the fact that it is a newly introduced service but all of this had to be completed before offering this service to the users. Also, it is not a good to have help center, contact us and press kit buttons in the support area at the footer area without any guidance.

To briefly talk about the mobile application, I see that since it is a new application it has been installed on very few devices and there is not enough user review based on this situation. If I had not used the buttons on the website to download the application I would have doubts about whether this application is the official application or not. In addition, it is necessary to pay a very price of 1 EURO to download the application. Despite all this, the fact that no authorization is requested on my device after the application installation shows that the application is not actually used to collect user data. I would like to state that I did not encounter any problems when I created an account and backed up my words.
As for my recommendations about the application, I definitely think that all the buttons in the footer area of the website should redirect to the links correctly as soon as possible and social media accounts should also be added here. I also think that with a good marketing strategy, mobile applications should be downloaded by more people and user comments should be collected.

Mixin App

It was very easy to download the application and install it on the phone. Just like every application from the application market is installed, I had no problems during the download and installation of the application on the phone using only the "Install" button, and there was no extra situation that would attract my attention.
After the installation of the application a user agreement welcomes us where we can see the "Accept and continue" button. It was not possible to use the application without accepting this agreement.

In order to create a membership in the application, a valid phone number is required first. Registering the Mixin with the code sent to the phone number is preferred as a very good verification method in order not to use the application by malicious people and to prevent bot users from being included in the application.
The fact that Mixin Messenger works in an integrated way within the application is definitely a user-friendly feature because there is no need to install a different application for Mixin Messenger. In addition to ensuring application integrity this prevents many applications from being installed on the device.

It is also necessary to set up a pin code to be used for all transfer operations that can be done during application installation. This code must be six digits and must be confirmed by typing this code three times in a row. The fact that such a security measure has been taken to prevent any typos definitely eliminates any possible erroneous code generation possibilities.

Since only the phone number is used when registering to the application, the possibility of defining emergency contacts within the application is also provided. The person you add here can help you to access your Mixin account in case you lose access to your phone number. In this way, you can access your Mixin account again with the help of this person if the phone number you used when you signed up for the application is unreachable.

To talk about other features in the application, the fact that there are options for name, profile photo and biography information definitely provides a nice variety for personalizing your Mixin profile. In addition, the fact that the phone number registered to the Mixin account can be changed by entering the pin code from the profile information in the settings, which definitely helps to update the information easily in case the phone number changes.
Again, the QR code of the Mixin account and the QR code of the Mixin wallet, which are located in the settings menu, also allow many transactions to be made easily. In addition, the buttons added to scan the QR code at the bottom of these options, where we can see the QR codes belonging to our own account, were definitely very useful.
It is also very easy to create a new chat and new group chat with the options here. The fact that you can see everyone in your contacts and that you can add new contacts from here is among the very useful features.
The fact that there are options to add Mixin users and see the users that are currently added here also contributed a lot to ensuring the integrity of the application. Having mentioned this, I would also like to point out that to add a Mixin user to your contacts, you must use that person's Mixin ID, phone number or QR code. The fact that there are so many options to add people is definitely a nice thing. In addition, if you allow access to your phone book, you can see the contacts in your phone book and create Mixin membership with this phone number and add them to your contacts list.

When I check the settings menu of the application, I saw that there are options for account, chats, notification and confirmation, data and storage usage, apperance settings, QR code scanning menu for the use of Mixin Messenger on the desktop, about, invite a friend and feedback. There are various uses such as having so many options for the app and finding all the options easily.
To summarize the settings menu briefly;

When I click on the "account" option here, I see that the privacy, security and phone number change settings are included. Also, "Delete My Account" option is located in this menu in case if the users want the Mixin account to be deleted permanently.

When I click on the "chats" option here, there are options for cloud backup, transferring account backup to computer and other devices, and transferring data from computer to mobile device.

When I clicked on the "Notification and Confirmation" option here, I saw the options to make the necessary adjustments for message preview, transfer notifications, large-amount transfer confirmations and duplicate transfer confirmation settings.

When I clicked on the "Data and Storage Usage" option here, I saw the options I want to download photos, videos and files with Wi-Fi or cellular data and I can adjust them. Also here is the option about storage usage.

When I clicked on the "Appearance" option here, I saw the theme options to be used in the application interface, the language setting, the default currency for my account, the background settings of the chats and the options where I can edit the font in the chats.

When I clicked on the "Mixin Messenger Desktop" option here, I saw that there was an option where I could scan the QR code if I wanted to access Mixin Messenger using my computer.

When I clicked on the "Feedback" option here, I was directed to my automatically created chat with "Team Mixin" to directly convey my feedback and opinions.

When I clicked on the "Invite a Friend" option here, I came across the share screen with links related to the invitation text directly in the application.

And finally, when I click on the "about" option, the social media accounts of Mixin, the help center, user agreement, privacy policy, accepted agreements and the application version of the device in order to check the update of the application.

Mixin Messenger

Mixin Messenger, like many chat applications, is an application that uses end-to-end encryption and has a very useful structure. Voice calls, taking photos with-in the application, file transfer, direct sharing of contact information and location sharing feature work very well. The biggest difference compared to other chat applications is the "transfer" option for performing cryptocurrency transfers because it works integrated with the in-app wallet service. This is a very nice feature that allows balance transfer without miner fee and allows users to transfer cryptocurrencies among themselves without using any cryptocurrency wallets. In addition, the fact that the cryptocurrency transfers are displayed as messages in the chat menu of both users is a very nice feature in order to be able to immediately notice the transfers and easily check them later.
The fact that there are emoji, stickers and gif options in the chat menu definitely makes a great contribution to making the chats more enjoyable. On the other hand, being able to see both the name information and Mixin ID information of the person chatting on the chat screen is a very useful feature to understand who is chatting with.
The only negative review I can make for Mixin Messenger is that unfortunately there is no emoji drop feature for messages in chats. Especially as a people who doesn’t prefer to leave messages as "seen" without any reaction, I often interact emojis for messages that I cannot reply to, and it is very sad for me that this feature is not available in this application.

Mixin Safe

First of all, if I were to make a general review, I would like to state that it has a very successful and easy-to-use interface.
When I visit the main page, I see my account balance and my account balance from past to present, active safes, total and pending transactions in graphic form. When I examine the graph, I can see that the area that shows the account balance from the past to the present graphically, can be filtered as 1 week, 1 month, 1 year and all time. Also, there are options for 'send', 'receive' and 'create safe'.

When I click on the "Safes", I see the names, balances, addresses and members of the safes I have created before. With the "View" option next to any safe, it is possible to see all the necessary information and transaction histories of that safe. In addition, the necessary buttons for depositing and transferring money to these safes are also located here.

When I click on the "Transactions’’, I’m directed to the section where I can see and check the transaction history of all the transactions I have made with my safes in my Mixin account. Here, it is very easy to access all the details of the relevant transactions by using the "View" button next to each transaction.

When I click on the "Activities", a redirect occurs to the section where I can see all the activity history of my Mixin account. Here, all transactions made within the Mixin account are included and it is possible to access the details of all transactions by using the "View" button on the side of each transaction.

To talk about my experience in trading with Mixin Safe;

First of all, it is necessary to create a safe for ourselves using our Mixin account. For this, it is necessary to use the "Safes" option in the left menu. From here, it is necessary to enter a name for the safe that we will create and choose which crypto network it will use. After completing this information, the QR code on the screen should be scanned with Mornin Key. After scanning the code, it is very important to confirm this transaction from within the Mornin Key application. In the next step, it is necessary to write the members you want to add for the safe here and write the required number in the box indicating how many people should approve each transaction. After providing this information, a membership upgrade is required in order to create this safe. Here, by using the "Upgrade Plan" option, the person should choose the most suitable plan for him/her and be directed to the payment screen by using the "Upgrade" option in this plan. It is definitely a very good thing that the plan upgrade has been provided with the opportunity to pay with many cryptocurrencies because among the many options here, users can choose the most suitable option for themselves and make their payment. After all these processes are completed, we can easily perform the transfer transactions using Mixin.

To summarize in general;

- The contact and about information on the Mornin Key website should be updated and edited as soon as possible.

- Mixin app is definitely designed in a very beautiful and useful way.

- Mixin Messenger works very successfully in an integrated way within the Mixin application, but the only suggestion from me is, it is not possible to react with emojis in messages.

- Mixin membership upgrade prices are very affordable and the fact that there are various cryptocurrency options in payment methods is definitely a huge advantage.

- Mixin Safe, quite beautiful and user-friendly interface.

As all others said, I couldn’t afford to buy the app from Play Store since it requires me to share my card number, etc. So, I have downloaded the apk version and created the account. All good but I didn’t like that the mnemonic phrase can be taken as a screenshot. This should be protected, by disallowing screenshots on that page. I know this is a part to consider by the user but it’s goodwill from the team to ensure no one is taking screenshots by force disallowing this. There’s nothing much I have to add as this was the experience without having the actual uses which we will find in the later stage in creating safe.

Mixin Messenger
First thing first, I would have shared the review yesterday but sadly I couldn’t start at the right time due to phone number verification. I had to wait more than 24 hours before I changed the number and try verifying again. I wasn’t getting a verification code. After a few failed attempts, I decided to check out how I can fix it. I found an email (kelly@mixin.safe) to contact if I’m having any problems with receiving the 4-digit code. Guess what, the email isn’t a valid one.
After that, I changed my phone number and got the 4-digit code instantly. Was that my fault? I don’t know as I have given a valid working and active phone number. Personal opinion, a phone number is a very bad choice here I think. There are a lot of other options available.
I really found the app interesting if I keep the phone number thing aside. I have used both desktop and android mixin messenger. Pretty much I liked the idea of building a messenger with a wallet. Is it already available? I don’t know, I haven’t seen any other than this. In addition, there are a few nice important settings on the notification and confirmation page which is very much helpful.
By the way, I have used the mixin messenger on both mobile and desktop. While I can see the all chat history in the mobile app, I can see nothing on the desktop. The chat history has disappeared.

Added LDL on the platform. Have exchanged some messages with LDL. After that, added LDL as my emergency contact so I can recover my id later in case I lost access.
The chat feature is cool, to be honest. There’s auto-destruction mode where the message will be deleted/disappeared after the set time. It’s a cool feature. However, again, here’s one problem- any party from the chat can take screenshots which I really think isn’t a good option. This feature should be removed in my personal opinion.

Mixin dashboard
I have used the dashboard on my desktop while I have the app on my phone. I used the app to authenticate to log in to the dashboard. After closing the browser, when I wanted to re-access the dashboard, it didn’t require any authentication from the phone. Well, it’s the same browser but every time we close the tab, I think it should require authentication from the app because the dashboard may contain some sensitive data like whom did I send crypto, my activities, etc. Well, there’s a log-out option available though, but most people will be lazy to click that option lol (Moreover, the log-out option isn’t visible by default unless we click on our username on the dashboard). So, every time there’s a new session, I would like to be required an authentication. I don’t want anyone to watch all these by mistakes.



Creating safe
Well, I have to agree that it’s a more convenient multi-sig wallet as some people may find it a hassle to set up the usual multi-sig wallet and store all the keys, etc. It can be a very much useful tool for many small corporate (I will recommend this to someone today). However, it was my surprise that there was no on-chain transaction at all even though I have deposited from my mixin messenger wallet (why I can’t directly put addresses? Every time I need to add them manually. This is weird I think) to multi-sig address from the safe. I don’t know what I’m missing but that’s the case lol. Why there was no on-chain tx? I will possibly post this on the ANN thread as it seems I’m missing some info here. When I have withdrawn from the safe, I have seen an on-chain incoming tx in my mixin messenger wallet.

My address where I deposited 0.08+ LTC. After that, I paid 0.02 LTC+ for the upgrade. Then I sent 0.01 LTC to the multi-sig safe address. After successfully creating the safe, I have withdrawn the fund and curiously checked through explorer. It says 0.09= balance in the address. I can’t see the transaction in between.

The whole process seems pretty much simple and hassle-free for the security of someone’s fund if they want to avoid all the processes of multi-sig. In general, I liked the whole idea of mixin safe.

Background: I think what matters the most for every business, it's how a brand new customer will enjoy the product. So, from now on, you'll read the review of a guy who visited Mixin Safe for the first time.

The first impression and Get Started experience

Mixin.zone – this domain name sounds cool, my first impression was that it was a bitcoin mixer, especially when I visited subdomain safe.mixin.zone but seems it is an absolutely different project. The first thing that I see when I visit a website, is its visual side, mixin managed to take care of that very well. The first time I visit this website, I was able to browse it easily, the overall experience was good because the website is well-structured. I quickly figured out what this company was offering to me.

Now, let’s click on ‘Get Started’ button. The first step is to create an Owner Wallet. We have three options there: Morning Key, Ledger and Bitcoin Core. I’ll choose Morning Key because it’s a brand new, developed by mixin team and it’s open-source too. I like innovations, new things, so let's try it out!
Morning Key – this app helps you to manage passwords, login and keys, it works like a password manager and costs €1.09 on Google Play but you can download an APK file from official website for free. I don’t know why it isn’t it free on Google Play but I’ll just buy it. For mobile number verification I successfully used Textverified, it charged me 1.25 USD for it.



Now I have to prepare Members wallet. It’s good that Mixin Messenger is available for iOS, Android, Windows and Linux but problem here is that Mixin messenger asks me to scan QR code from my smartphone in order to log in on PC. That’s a little bit discomfort for me to download one app on my computer and one on smartphone in order to use the service but that's still okay.



Mixin Messenger

So, it’s time to log into Mixin’s desktop APP. It was a little bit surprise when it asked for QR code scan via my smartphone, it also simultaneously asked me to set up the PIN before I logged in on desktop app. It’s like a nice way to force someone to secure things. Also, another good feature during the pin set up is that it doesn’t allow you to set too simple and insecure PIN combinations, like, for example 123456. Another good feature is that while it requests 6 character pin, it also asks you to repeat the PIN for 4 times, this is a good requirement, it enforces you to actually keep an eye on what PIN you enter and helps you to recognize your pin and remember it.



It really looks cool on both devices. The desktop version really reminds me a mixture of Telegram and Whatsapp while the smartphone version is a new look with cool modern design (I took a smartphone screenshot lately and also changed my name). Mixin messenger app on your smartphone gives you possibility to send/receive money, scan QR code, add contacts, create groups, message with friends, edit your profile and so on. I can confidently say that this app is really the best part of Mixin.

The only moment where I felt stuck was when I had to add emergency contact but finally figured it out:

• You have to open Mixin App on your smartphone
• Click at the top right side of the app, on your first name letter icon.
• Click on Settings on the right side.
• Account > Security and there is your option to add an emergency contact.

Mornin Key - mixin's password manager that you can also use to save other accounts
Mornin key is a very easy app with very simple and nice user interface, it's really beautiful, font is smooth, everything is smooth and easy. As I see, it also works as a password manager not only for mixin but for other accounts too.

To sum up, I think it really took too much from me just for registration. I had to use two device for registration, my computer and my smartphone. While it was entirely possible on smartphone alone, I really had to move back and forth for registration, I had to download Mixin messenger on PC and Mornin key & messenger on smartphone too.




Mixin Safe - the most interesting part of this review

Let's sign in Mixin Safe. In order to sign, I have to scan QR code via my smartphone, okay, I get it.
Mixin Safe dashboard looks cool with very simple and easy to use design but to be honest, design is very pale, I would add some colors to make it look better.
I had to use Mornin key app in order to create a new safe. But not only that, on the 4th step, I had to use Mornin key again in order to sign. As it seems, these guys take security very seriously but this security is achieved via using your smartphone and computer together, both of them are very linked.




Now, this is the time when we have to choose our plan. I chose the basic one that costs $2 and gives me an option to add only one member to confirm transaction. There were variety of payment methods, which I personally like because sometimes Bitcoin transaction fees are ridiculously high and I see nothing wrong with altcoin usage but yesterday fees weren't very high for me, so I paid with bitcoin and it all went very smoothly.


Okay, so all the necessary steps are finished here. Overall, once you register on this platform and setup your Mixin messenger, Mornin Key and create a new safe, you can proudly say that this service is very easy to use. I was easily able to make a transaction inside the platform, also was easily able to withdraw my coins without any problem.



Conclusion and advices
First of all, I want to say positive things. Mixin Safe really looks like an innovative platform with one clear aim, to put privacy and security first!
To be completely honest, it was a little bit exhausting, too much for the first time use. It is not a simple service but not super advanced, it's between, while the security seems to be higher than any other related platform offers. Actually, only the setup process is too complicated, once you figure it out and setup your mixin, then things get very simple.
Also, I would also like if I were able to use Mixin messenger via web browser instead of downloading one. I think that current mixing projects looks like to be divided in three parts: Web wallet, messenger and mornin key. I think it's possible to combine web wallet and messenger like Meta has combined meta ads, news feed and messages on one website.

My Review After Testing Mixin Safe
Downloading Process:
Mornin Key: While trying to download the mornin key, it appeared that I have to pay a certain fee ($0.99) to have access to the download and installation, paying from there will be tedious as I have no card linked to purchase online. I had to go back to the user guide on the thread, it was required that I can access it using iOS devices by installing the TestFlight. TestFlight was downloaded without any stress and I got acces to downloading the mornin key, very easy and stress free. I love the whole concept.



Mixing Messenger: Mixin messenger was also downloaded and installed without any issues or requirement to pay a certain amount for it.

Opening the Mornin key:
At first, It was required that I secure the app by adding password to it, which I did. I entered a name for my account (my bitcointalk username) and was been given my mnemonic seed phrase which I was able to note down easily. I actually took a screenshot of the phrase, so that I can have easy access to it while going on with the process. While inputing back the seed phrase to access the application, I mistakenly added a phrase that’s not in order and it immediately popped an error message out that says (not in order). I restarted and put in the correct order.

Opening the mixin messenger:
The first thing that appeared on my screen after opening the app is that I should input my phone number. I was expecting to see a brief introduction of the app but didn’t. Haven to enter your phone number first is not a good idea to me. After adding my phone number, it still went ahead for me to confirm if I was human, which I passed the process swiftly. After that, I received a 4 digit code easily from (VERIMSMG) which appeared on my clipboard and I inserted easily by clicking through the clipboard. Another option of using email to sign in the process will also be commendable.


Before proceeding, it was required before creating a wallet that you set up a PIN, a 6-digit pin which was confirmed after 4 confirmation process, which I feel it’s okay since you can’t get access to your wallet when you lost the 6-digit pin. After getting the wallet, I was awed to see the UI, it was really attractive and easy to navigate.

Creating member wallets:
Creating members wallet to connect to each other requires me to download another mixing messenger app for them.

Creating Mixin safe
I was able to access the safe website dashboard through my laptop PC. I clicked on sign in and a QR code appear for me to scan if I already had a mixin messenger, I logged into my mixin messenger app and scanned the QR code and it immediately gave me access which appeared in the website dashboard of my laptop and also on my mixin messenger app in my phone. The UI on the dashboard is very okay and easy to understand.
I continue by creating a new safe:
1. New Safe: Filled in the name and the network to use (bitcoin was preferable to me)
2. Owner: Selected mornin key as the owner key of the safe. Logged into my mornin key to scan the QR code from my laptop screen. After scanning the QR code, I could not proceed because the name on the safe didn’t match the name on my mornin key, I had to discard the process, change the name on my safe to the one I have on my mornin key app and tried again. This time around it still failed, and I just went ahead to create a new key with the name which worked swiftly.

3. I was able to add one member who have already downloaded the Mixin app and have access to it.

4. I was asked to upgrade the plan which I chose the $2 upgrade plan. I chose BTC as payment method by scanning the QR code through my binance wallet app to pay. I tried severally and it keeps saying invalid QR code. I just add to input the address on my Binance app manually to make payment, still it failed.

5.  I changed the payment method to using TRX and it went through smoothly and my payment was confirmed within 1 minute. After this step, I was asked to add member again and i added the initial person before.
6. New safe was successfully created and I used my mornin key app to scan the QR code displayed on my laptop screen to sign in. This was the dashboard after signing in successfully.


Depositing into the Mixin safe:
I was able to locate the “receive deposit” button quickly on the dashboard of my created Mixin safe page. I proceeded to add funds into the safe, which is BTC of course. This time around, I still tried to scan the QR code to make payment and it went through swiftly but the payment didn’t reflect in the Mixin safe account immediately, it took about 20 minutes, I guess the mempool was congested at that time.

Withdrawing from the Mixin safe:
I clicked on the new transaction tab and was immediately taken to a page to confirm my Mixin safe account name and the asset I want to transact with. With what appeared, it seems you can have more than one Mixin safe account and select from the one you want to transact with. I clicked on next and inserted the address I want to transfer the funds to. Immediately it showed me to approve the transaction and also showed my other member status as “waiting”, needed his confirmation before I can proceed. I could not get approval not until when I used my Mixin messenger app to still scan a QR code from my laptop before my approval was granted. My other member did the same and the transaction got approved immediately. I received the BTC in the recipient address faster than I expected.
The security it provides at this stage makes it appealing for me to use when the app will be fully functional by the end of the beta version period.

Observation
1. The whole process is quite ambiguous, this is my first time using the app but with some delay in payments confirmations, it’ll take more time than needed to finish the whole process.
2. Email should be used as an alternative to signing up on the Mixin messenger app, not everybody will give their personal contact out when testing an app online. It defeats the aim of privacy in this case.
3. Using three different tools for this process is really hectic, if there’s a way to combine one or two of these tools together it’ll be better, rather than switching between two different apps and also a browser.
4. More languages to be included in the support website (https://support.mixin.one/en/category/mixin-safe-n3u479/) to enhance the usage, easy understanding and accessibility to users that wants to use the service.

Summary
In summary, I really enjoyed the whole process with the security it provides to your funds not to allow any third party that you haven’t authorised to have access to your funds. The concept of recovering your account through a trusted emergency contact is very great and commendable one since you’ll be the one to add them yourself. Without a step-to-step guide, a newbie trying to use the app for the first time will be lost. Also, if you don’t have little knowledge at all about the technical aspects of bitcoin, you might find it hard to go through the whole process smoothly.

First impression

Mixin Safe is positioned as a solution for decentralized bitcoin storage. In my view, this positioning is unlikely to attract anyone. All Bitcoin UTXOs are already stored in a decentralized manner: on many thousands of computers worldwide. Hence, the phrase "decentralized bitcoin custody solutions" doesn't capture any attention. Bitcoin, at first glance, doesn't appear to have a problem necessitating such solutions. Everything is already resolved.

Let’s figure it out

However, it's intriguing to understand the developers' intentions and the problem they aimed to address. Reading the description, it appears that they are likely referring to a storage approach that eliminates a single point of failure. When only one person possesses the key to the assets, any mishap involving that person would render the bitcoins inaccessible. Mixin Safe proposes a storage method in which multiple individuals possess the keys, preventing any one of them from unilaterally spending the bitcoins.

In essence, the idea is not novel. It appears that Mixin Safe is yet another program designed to manage bitcoins using M-of-N multi-signature addresses. Similar to, for instance, the Nunchuk wallet.

Is it really just a multisig wallet?

In order to check whether Mixin Safe is truly a conventional application for multi-signature addresses, I followed the instructions on the website, created a safe, granted access to two of my alter egos, deposited funds into the safe, and withdrew coins from it. The outcome revealed that Mixin Safe generates a somewhat unconventional M-of-N multi-signature address.

Typically, in addresses of this type, all signatures hold equal weight. It's immaterial whose signatures are included and whose are not. Once M signatures are accumulated, the transaction is transmitted to the network and acknowledged as valid.

In Mixin Safe, users are categorized into two types: "owner" and "members." The owner's signature on the transaction is mandatory. Regardless of the number of signatures added by members, the transaction remains invalid until the owner's signature is present.

Indeed, this arrangement seems to deviate from decentralization. The ownership structure is conspicuously centralized, with the "owner" occupying a central role and being singular in nature. In the event of any mishap befalling the owner, the other signature holders would be rendered incapable of managing the bitcoins.

Why then is it necessary?

The developers of Mixin Safe assert that this approach could prove beneficial for institutional bitcoin holders. Under this storage scheme, no individual within the organization would have the ability to unilaterally seize or misuse the bitcoins.

Indeed, this logic holds merit. Requiring a predetermined number of "members" signatures for any bitcoin transaction ensures that the "owner" can't execute a financial operation without obtaining the necessary approval from a sufficient number of “members”. This aligns with a conventional corporate approach to asset management.

But I see two more use cases for this scheme.

Firstly, Mixin Safe can be used to teach children about responsibility. I will illustrate this through a comparison of the Mixin Safe principle with the Nunchuk principle.

In Nunchuk, the setup would be as follows:
- I give the child a key to a multi-signature address in the wallet, keep the second key for myself, and give the third key to my wife.
- Meanwhile, I establish a 2-of-3 rule, meaning the child can manage the funds in the wallet only with the consent of either mom or dad.
- The child doesn't feel like the owner of the money; they understand that mom and dad can at any time withdraw all the money from the wallet using their two signatures.

In Mixin Safe, the situation is indeed different.
- When I give money to a child, the child becomes the "owner," while the parents become "members."
- The child still requires the consent of one of the parents for any financial transaction, but now the parents also need the child's approval.
- If the child loses their key, parents won't be able to control the funds using only their two keys. With this understanding, the child will take much more responsible care of the key.

Secondly, Mixin Safe could indeed be used to implement the principle of citizenship comprehensively. It would be interesting if taxes were collected using Mixin Safe wallets. The state becomes the "owner," while the family (husband and wife with shared property) are the "members." Citizens are required to pay taxes, and so we comply. Once the money is transferred to Mixin Safe, it becomes the state's property, and we lose the ability to withdraw it. However, states are obligated to spend on their citizens, not on warfare or terrorism. Each citizen can opt to withhold their signature from expenditures they deem inappropriate. This concept would truly embody citizenship, with citizens holding real responsibility for the actions of their states.

To achieve this, it would indeed require the Recovery feature to not function, similar to its current state of non-functionality. As initially designed by the developers, if the "owner" key is lost, access to the funds can be regained using the "members" keys, and if the members' keys are lost, the "owner" key would be used for recovery. Currently, when attempting to initiate the recovery procedure, an error message is displayed.


If this error is fixed and "members" can access assets bypassing the "owner," and the "owner" can bypass the "members," then it will be unclear to me why all of this is needed. In my opinion, Mixin Safe would then be merely an unnecessary complication of the typical multi-signature M-of-N scheme. There would be no fundamentally new features in it.

It's doubtful that anyone would pay for the same solution that is freely available in existing multi-signature wallets.

OMG! Is there a cost for this?

Yes, indeed. The website indicates that the usage fee amounts to $100. During the testing phase, we can try out Mixin Safe features for $2. I gave it a try, and it seemed much less convenient to me compared to the free Nunchuk.
- Firstly, when using a smartphone wallet, you actually need two applications instead of just one: Mixin Messenger and Mornin Key. Additionally, Mornin Key comes with a cost.
- Secondly, one smartphone won't suffice. You'll require an additional device with a web browser. The internal browser integrated into Mixin Messenger cannot be used to log into Mixin Safe. This is because the authorization process involves a QR code, which can only be scanned by a different device. (By the way, I attempted to photograph the QR code and then read it using the same device where it was initially displayed. This approach didn't work. After closing the browser displaying the QR code, I launched Mixin Messenger, read the QR code from the photo, returned to the browser, and found the QR code had already changed. This likely occurs every time the browser goes into the background. Authorization can only be achieved with an active browser.)
- Thirdly, the website used for primary interactions with Mixin Safe is inadequately designed and isn't optimized for all devices. For instance, on my Samsung J730, I am unable to tap the View button, essential for confirming a transaction. If a transaction status is “Proposing”, the button is simply not visible. And it’s impossible to scroll the page right: only up-down scrolling is allowed.


There are additional minor details that could potentially affect one's perception of Mixin Safe, but when compared to the previously mentioned issues, these are indeed minor concerns.

The only undeniable benefit I found in Mixin Safe is the fixed transaction fee: $1. This means that the fee for Mixin Safe could be viewed as purchasing insurance against potential increases in blockchain fees. I suppose I would be willing to pay for such an insurance policy. However, it's unclear how the developers intend to maintain this cost during mempool congestions. It's possible that transactions will be sent to the network with a fee not exceeding $1 and will take a long time to be confirmed.

Recommendations

On the whole, I still haven't grasped the purpose behind all of this and what exactly merits payment. Hence, as a conclusion to my review, I would like to offer a few recommendations to the developers.

1. Make an effort to provide a clearer explanation of the specific problem that Mixin Safe is intended to address. It could be that its ideal application is indeed as insurance against rising transaction costs.
2. Ensure that Mixin Safe effectively tackles this problem. For instance, to achieve genuine decentralization, it could be worth considering the removal of "owner" privileges. Additionally, for the two use cases I mentioned earlier, it might be beneficial to eliminate the Recovery option.
3. Illustrate your unique selling points through examples, highlighting how you differentiate from free alternatives. While you already have a list of distinctions, it's crucial to make them more tangible and clear. For instance, you mention having a helpdesk, but the value of paying for support diminishes if customers need to wait for hours to receive assistance. If the helpdesk is intended as a competitive advantage, it should be made more responsive.
4. Work on refining and optimizing the user interface to ensure compatibility with various devices. Currently, using your wallet on certain devices is not merely inconvenient but at times even impossible.
