Same with you, it's no brainer to me personally in choosing inheritance as mentioned by OP the amount of that is far better than the amount that I can earn while playing, 5 years is not that long and if your father will continue to give you support aside from that promise inheritance, you can continue living your life without gambling, you can spend time with other things even you think you have the pattern to continue winning it's still practical to choose the sure way to have secure money.

Inheritance is a family asset that must be properly guarded and not used for harmful actions, as much as possible with the existing inheritance it must be used wisely such as developing a business so that the value of the inheritance will grow and increase, whereas if it is used for gambling it will make the value of the inheritance disappear instantly and it is likely to become a problem that may be experienced because there are definitely families who are not happy to see the recipient of the inheritance using their assets improperly. stay careful because gambling cannot be guaranteed to win.

If reading the OP and adding it to the situation, my personal take is that's the reason why the father wanted to stop his child to gamble, he wanted to protect his money that will be soon be inherited by his son, even how good the child in playing / gambling there's still a big possibility that he can be wrecked and gambling casino will suck all his money,.

No one wants to see his hard-earned savings to be burned inside gambling, so for sure, even I'm in the father shoe I will give that same deal to make sure that my child will use it the right way, though after 5 years, I don't know if I'm still alive and with the said condition my child will be free to decide if whatever he would do with that inherited money.

I also think too, since the guy is the inheritor of his wealth, the father wanted to make sure that his hardwork will not go in vain and make sure that his son will use the wealth correctly.  The father knows that when a person is engage in gambling activity, there is a chance no matter how high or low that his son will get addicted to gambling so he wanted to stop the engagment of his son to gambling activity.

If the OP have a good thing going on, he will definitely choose what he profound to be pleasing when doing, other than some kind of big businesses and assets which he would find challenging to handle. It was something that the child who was about to inherit from his parents had to prevent so that he could use the inheritance properly. It's a shame that the young man couldn't use the inheritance from his parents because, as an only child, he got all that inheritance and should be able to use it to continue what his parents had started. Gambling and drug addiction are very difficult to cure. If you are addicted, everything can just disappear to fulfill your desires.

That is the goal of the father from the @OP story, who wants to give his son an understanding that gambling is something full of risks. If his son could think of an offer from his father, it would also be in his best interest because his father wanted him to give up gambling. I do feel like if you could stop gambling in exchange of something like this, it would be pretty good. However, there are addict that can't stop and I understand that as well, you and I may stop for no reason as well, one day we can just say no more and stop, we may do that but there are addicts who lose their entire assets and money on gambling, I have met with people who lost houses, great businessman who made a ton of money and then lost it all on gambling as well.

This is why I believe that we are not going to end up seeing any big changes anytime soon. We should be accepting the fact that it is not going to be all that different. I agree that it is going to be something that will benefit the people, but that's not an easy decision.

It just depends on the person. If it is an addict and who don't believe in family wealth, they won't agree to stop just because of the family inheritance because I have seen some people that their parents wanted them to go into a particular career but they chose the career that they have passion for, so that will be the same scenario.

For someone that is only gambling out of the need for profit and doesn't hold on to personal achievement then they will accept the condition to stop gambling.

However, there are addict that can't stop and I understand that as well, you and I may stop for no reason as well, one day we can just say no more and stop, we may do that but there are addicts who lose their entire assets and money on gambling, I have met with people who lost houses, great businessman who made a ton of money and then lost it all on gambling as well.

Yes, right. At least there is a trigger for us to stop so that we will be more focused on being able to stop so we can get the prize or something in return. Maybe the gambling addict will also stop until he can get his reward, wait a while, and then continue gambling again. And if that's the case, he's not honest with himself and the person who gave the reward and other people shouldn't have to trust him anymore. But if we really want to stop, we have to do it with real intent so that even if a temptation invites us back to gambling, it won't be able to tempt us. We decide to stop and stay on track to stop gambling.
