Absolutely mixers play very vital role in privacy of your Bitcoin, though just as we have bitcoin mixers, we also have some altcoin mixers that make tracking difficult and impossible.  But the reason the government sees mixers as a bad feature in cryptocurrency is because they like to keep their eyes fixed and some wallets especially when that wallets has a criminal charge or identity. If mixers can make them invisible then these hackers would always go free. So from their perspective it's not all that questionable because it's a fact and that how most mixers stops working after given some criminal charges as an accomplist.

No, that is not the reason. The reason is that OP mentioned bitcoin mixer. That is the reason I quoted the OP topic title and bolded the bitcoin that he included in the title.

As long as it is called bitcoin mixer, everything that should be discussed should be about bitcoin. There are differences between 'bitcoin mixer' and 'mixer' even as they are used for the same purpose which is privacy and anonymity.

Also, I corrected someone for making typo which is just for the person to correct the transaction to bitcoin for it not to change the meaning. But his correction is not necessary in my case. Try and read it again and understand what I mean.

I was one of the people that promoted a mixer on this forum that supported ethereum. The mixer is on the other forum since mixers were baned on this forum. Also on the other forum, the mixer that you are referring to, I wear their signature campaign. I know the mixer. When it started to support ethereum, I knew and we even discussed about it recently on their announcement thread on the other forum.

Mixing is not tied to bitcoin alone and on that basis Agbamoni was actually right. Almost any cryptocurrency can be mixed including bitcoin the thing is bitcoin mixing happens to be more popular and common. However the OP does direct the context of the post to bitcoin mixing specifically.

As for the OP bitcoin mixing can still be traced to some extent it's why you have some mixer addresses blacklisted by mostly exchanges. Because of this most mixer use a bridge mostly a Monero bridge during mixing to further disrupt any trace.

I read about it in literature earlier this year and I stopped blaming the government for suspending bitcoin and crypto transactions. Mixers are fraudulent and are solely used for that purpose. Both centralised and decentralised mixers alike. Maybe if not for the advent of mixers initially, cryptocurrency could have been a very legally acceptable entity without most of the suspicions it is facing today.

Mixers as the name implies join a given transaction with many other transactions and conceals the origin and destination of such transactions. This makes it practically impossible to trace such transactions in the event of fraud.
