We are hosting our first Roatan Bitcoin Experience tour.  Roatan is an island in the Caribbean and it is located off the coast of Honduras (central america). We have been a mission to make Roatan the Bitcoin Island of the Caribbean and so far it's been amazing. If you would be interested in something like this. Reach out to me. The first one is set to start September 4th and its for 11 days. Bitcoin is widely accepted here on Roatan and we have a big and great Bitcoin community.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

You could discuss in more details how the Bitcoin adoption is advancing on Roatan.

You could tell Bitcointalk what you can buy with Bitcoin and in what type of shops.
It would be interesting to know what's the price difference between purchasing with fiat vs crypto.
Additionally, what wallets are the most popular on the Island? Mobile, desktop, airgapped, hardware...?
Another interesting point of discussion would be how different generations are reacting to Bitcoin. Are the older and senior citizens using it at all, and how are they coping with it?

There is enough to create a brand-new thread or compile everything in this one.
Also, tell us more about the goals of Roatan Bitcoin Experience tour, and what you hope to achieve?

As @Pmalek said, elaborate on what you're offering, details of the services offered should be presented so in a way it can help you lessen the FAQs for your services. I've checked the island and it looks promising, especially since it's a Carribean island although I don't get why make it a bitcoin island, maybe expound on that stuff too, maybe I'm not the only one who wants to know the reason why Roátan should become a bitcoin island.

I live far from the Caribbean so I don't think I will travel thousands of miles because there is a tribute that accepts payment in bitcoins, but it looks interesting, here[1][2][3] are some links that post more information.
They accept all cryptocurrencies and it seems to be their way of promoting the area, I don't expect there will be legal problems on such islands and the population will be limited but to be sure, take some dollars with you in case anything happens.
The exchange rates they offer seem fairly acceptable.

The Caribbean is one of the famous tourist areas in the world, but unfortunately it is far away and it is difficult for me to get there, but the idea of making Rotana Island a “Bitcoin Island” is a great idea.

It will be interesting to see some pictures and videos. It would also be useful if you put some links and pictures to introduce the island as well as the services that accept payment by bitcoins. This would be a great promotion of bitcoin by visiting exciting tourist areas and services that accept bitcoin payment.

Bitcoin is widely accepted here on Roatan and we have a big and great Bitcoin community.

I think this is more a wish than a reality today. If I put 'bitcoin roatan in google' the first result says:

Quote
No, Bitcoin is not widely accepted in Roatan, as a spontaneous transactional currency, at least not yet.

Another result has already been linked by hugeblack before, but he has not stopped to point out the controversy:

‘Go home’: Honduran islanders fight against crypto colonialists

Then, looking at coinmap.org, there are 29 places where you can pay with bitcoin, which is not bad, but for an island with 110,000 inhabitants we can't talk about 'widely' acceptance.

The new way of colonialism. No, I'm not really joking...

In my country, there is a book published recently, mainly to say crypto is a cult, but the word "crypto-colonialism" is used several times and 'well' argued with the example in El Salvador. Even as a bitcoiner, I have to admit the author is half right. I can't admit she's 100% right because I'm a cocky bitcoiner with my pride Tongue

Now, you consider El Salvador, then read the link posted by the neighbours above because you will guess faster this crypto-colonialism

A shortcut
Quote
It’s also symptomatic of a broader phenomenon throughout the region, where foreigners – often cryptocurrency enthusiasts, libertarians or both – have flocked in recent years, supporting controversial projects – such as the proposed “Bitcoin City” in El Salvador – threatening to displace local residents and drawing comparisons to colonialists.

Ok, now you have this island and El Salvador in mind, right? What about if I tell you the problem is also there in Puerto Rico?
‘Crypto colonizers’ in Puerto Rico try to sell locals on the dream

Do you think it will stop here? Keep dreaming, do you know the adage: Money is power!

Think about it. The matter is real for them

Let's start with the phrase: !!"Travel to the Caribbean with BTC"!! It is perhaps not the best main promotion, perhaps the fine print.

Caribbean airports, you get (or you see, you hear) things like: "Cambio Dolares..." because although you can pay with the green currency, USD, they are not accepted in all places, or yes, but there are losses, so changing to local currency is the best, then! use an ATM.

That is, if you hear a person saying: (*)"I exchange dollars for Fiat..." ignore it, you must use the regular channels, I would do the same with this OP.
Unless it is presented as it should, fiscal address, who they are... that is, for terms of bitcointalk a white paper.

I do not doubt (maybe)that it is a sincere project, but given that You arrived and waited 24 hours to make that very poor post, I would say that it is someone hunting, I repeat again, hopefully it is an entrepreneur who wants to develop the idea of bitcoin, if so, thank you, but do your best to serve customers.

Welcome to the forum.

(*) If you hear bitcoin, mmhh, don't turn your head, no. Come on, not all Caribbean islands are like this, but for those places with low traffic and I say low traffic because there are paradisiacal places that the locals themselves know that tourists are their source of income, but with so many islands the competition is high and there are tourists who can't always go to the best places, so they choose to travel to the Caribbean, ok, but what an island. Then, as always common sense.

I've heard the term "Bitcoin Island" is also offered in my neighbor country, the Philippines. Tbh, I don't know the latest progress report. Considering that Bitcoin Island is only an experimental project, its definite sustainability is determined by visitor numbers.
It might be good to plan your next vacation itinerary. I think the tropical islands of Southeast Asia are more of a favorite for European and American continental tourists.

Wow..this shows that Carrebian Island is bitcoin friendly, where you can use bitcoin without making use of fiat. How possible is this,I feel amazed and I hope that almost every country will learn from this practice. I have not seen a place where bitcoin is celebrated in my country, maybe as time goes on our government will adopt bitcoin and make an event where bitcoin will be agenda of the day and also will allow bitcoin to be used freely by citizens. But from my research,I have seen that it isn't everywhere in that country that you can use bitcoin freely without fiat currency, only on the Roatan Island. I wish I will be part of that tour to see how many people uses bitcoin and also to know the challenge that they have when using bitcoin. I love the project.

Do you think it will stop here? Keep dreaming, do you know the adage: Money is power!

Think about it. The matter is real for them

This is not something that are being implemented by first world countries for colonialist goals.... but rather locals themselves that saw an opportunity to open a new income source through Bitcoin tourism. El Salvador had a bad government and they destroyed it's economy, so the citizens themselves turned to Bitcoin as a safe-haven to protect the value of their local fiat currency. The same thing goes for Cyprus and Zimbabwe.... where hyperinflation brought on by bad governance.... destroyed local fiat currencies.

I do not think that the islands have a system independent of the country in which they are located. For example, if you are on the island of Bitcoin in El Salvador, then the laws in that country will definitely apply, and therefore strikes and other problems.
Therefore, this idea of colonies makes sense if they are on the periphery, where international laws are followed, which are less stringent than the laws associated with each country, and here comes absolute liberalism.

I remember @theymos talking about a similar idea.

There should probably first be a critical mass of merchants there accepting Lightning payments before it can be considered a BTC outpost.

Bitcoin is widely accepted here on Roatan and we have a big and great Bitcoin community.

it might be a fun experience to be able to visit the Caribbean using your Bitcoin. but it's good if you can give us full details about what is needed to be able to join this tour. details about the website, pictures, or whatever it is are also needed because nowadays there are too many scams using cryptocurrencies, and if you really organize the tour it would be great if you could provide details like this, maybe there will be a lot of people who are interested in the tour.

Tell us more about this and post some images/videos if you can.
This is the first time I hear about Roatan island... but with population of around 110,000 people this would be a good place for Bitcoin adoption.
I don't know is Roatan have any connections with Honduras, and what kind of regulations they have, but I see they are interesting destination for cruise ships and that usually means lot of tourists.

Roatan Bitcoin Experience tour? this is when anyone wants to go sightseeing in Routan can use Bitcoin to pay for travel? but if exactly in the area of Routan Island Bitcoin is not yet known on this island? please correct me if I misunderstood.

Does this mean that Bitcoin adoption will be established in Routan island? because not a single merchant in Routan island is doing Bitcoin payment yet. But if this happens for sure it is of course good news for the Bitcoin community.

This is not something that are being implemented by first world countries for colonialist goals.... but rather locals themselves that saw an opportunity to open a new income source through Bitcoin tourism.

Not by Tier 1 countries? Who's working with El Salvador's president to implement the deployment of bitcoin? He has surrounded himself with American advisors, most of whom are blockchain entrepreneurs.

Bitcoin tourism, nice joke. Go to visit the country and when you've seen the crime rate you can tell me about tourism. There are so many gangsters that the country has built one of the biggest prisons in the world with 40,000 beds.

Who is invading the island mentioned in this topic? Not the local citizens...

The colonialism card are used for any introduction of "new" technology and I think this is unfair to say that this is the case with Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

As if citizens didn't have more important concerns than new technology, such as security, living conditions, access to water or electricity....
People are so poor that they rely on the money sent home by family members who have gone to work in the United States

El Salvador had a bad government and they destroyed it's economy, so the citizens themselves turned to Bitcoin as a safe-haven to protect the value of their local fiat currency.

their local currency... oh...
Their currency is the American dollar since over 2 decades

Bitcoin as a safe-haven to protect the value: the value of what? They're poor. No matter if you change the currency you're still poor.
the investments were made using public money, even though the country has a huge deficit.
The majority of users stopped using the platform after they had collected their sign on bonuses.

the US National Bureau of Economic Research found that

Quote
20% of people who downloaded the Chivo app did not use their $30 sign-on bonus, and 61% of Chivo users stopped using the app after spending their bonus.[58] Despite governmental attempts to make bitcoin acceptance universal, only an estimated 20% of business accepted payment in bitcoin.[28] The Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce found that only 14% of businesses in El Salvador had conducted bitcoin transactions between September 2021 and July 2022, and 3% felt that being able to use bitcoin was valuable.[59] According to the Central Reserve Bank, bitcoin was used in 1.9% of remittance payments sent to El Salvador between September 2021 and April 2022.[60] Media outlets reported that bitcoin had failed to increase tourist revenue, and that its use even in tourist hubs was limited to a minority of tourists

It is difficult for me to go on this tour though i would love to go there one day. By the way, can you tell us what are you charging for these 11 days visit and what will be services you are going to offer in the package ( as i think that you are the organization of this tour Roatan bitcoin tour from your post).

Also, if you can share the experience of the first tour somewhere near the end of September will be great for everyone who are thinking to join in the future.

And I guess since it's a Bitcoin tour, you will be charging in bitcoin and not in the local currency. Smiley
