Actually, it is something which could indeed happen in Mexico, because the popularity of cockfighting and the fact there are very dangerous organized crime organizations in that country.

One of the biggest and most brutal drug cartel in Mexico is called CJNG, and the druglord of such organization is called "El Mencho", he favorite hobby is to partake in cockfighting and bet much money on it; to the point he has been also called "El Señor de los gallos".

If anyone dared to kill one of his animals or an animal which belongs to any of his lieutenants, I don't have any doubt that person would get kidnapped and tortured to death; probably even recorded to serve as an warning to others.

This, in my opinion, is something completely creepy, inhumane and bloody entertainment.  It is good that at least in a number of civilized countries such entertainment is prohibited, but all this should be banned in all countries of the world.  
I understand that in those countries where gangster mafia clans completely dominate, this is unlikely to succeed.  But all the same, in all countries there are activists and organizations for the protection of nature and animals.  In addition, there are courageous journalists and environmental activists and animal advocates in these countries who could also fight such a problem.

Even if a country ban such practices the citizens will still continue their obsessions secretly. I have seen that in many countries people try different type of fights between animals, and I don't think that the government of those countries is interested in stopping those people from doing such kind of cruel practices. I have also seen many people doing things which are officially banned in a country and the citizens doesn't really care that much about the law in those countries. They are breaking the law most of the times without any worries and there is no one to stop them. I'm not sure about western countries but in eastern world there are some countries where the citizens do not really care that much about the law and they do whatever they like to do without any restrictions. Yes I am familiar with those. In our country, it is being played by betting between sa PULA, PUTI, or TABLA. It is accessible through Fiat or currency used depending on the country. It is not adviseable because along wit loging in and KYC, you personal information is being asked without an assurance that it will be kept securely and with privacy. As far my experience go, I haven't encounter yet crypto related with online sabong or cockfighting.

In our country, they were legal like 2-3 years ago but then the government finally decided to stop and make them illegal because of the series of kidnappings due to this type of game. Despite that, there have been a lot of new websites/apps that have come out but they don't have a license to operate so that means they're illegally operating and they will be held behind bars if they get caught.
