Hello bitcoin community

By chance I saw a picture on Twitter of a person posting the Seed of his Ledger wallet written on a piece of paper and saying:

Quote
Today finally i moved all my 367 bitcoin offline.

Then another person replied to the tweet and did the same thing showing his own Seed Ledger.

Here is the link to the tweet: https://twitter.com/Ashcryptoreal/status/1693615057668575607

Of course, Some fools rushed to seize the opportunity and Try to recover the wallet using the seed, hoping to find some bitcoins, but of course they will not find anything.

The idea of this tweet is that he has completely lost Trust in the Ledger wallet, and many of the comments shared his opinion.

Of course, we all heard about the recent problems of the Ledger company, but have things reached the point that the wallet can no longer be trusted anymore?

You can not trust Ledger anymore. A similar thread was created some hours ago: Ledger, safe or not?

Yes, I don't trust ledger and any of their products, but you have to make this decision for yourself, don't just ask what random people in forum think about it.
I really don't see what this posted image with fake seed phrase has to do with trusting or not trusting ledger wallets.

Dear OP, I just do not know what words should I use for you I mean in the circle of morality of course. I did not mean to be rude to you instead your query is quite funny. Because you must have seen this picture on some meme page I also saw this pic on a Meme page and it was meant to be sarcastic instead of showing the fact the ledger is no longer trusted.

We all know the ledger is under severe hate (which means people are avoiding buying it) due to its recovery update. But it did not mean someone came in public and showed his/her public to everyone. I hope you understand the purpose of that image.

Ledger wallet is a closed source so we do not know what the codes inside.

It would be safer if you create a wallet offline/cold wallet compared to using a ready-to-use hardware wallet like Ledger. In terms of security, why would you trust other software/hardware than yourself to protect your wallet?

If you want to secure a wallet don't ever use a hardware wallet unless it's open source and proven secured but for me, I stay using offline/cold wallet.
The only advantage of using a hardware wallet like Ledger is the ease of use because it supports altcoins and tokens.

I guess that the man who posted the seed phrase publicly is now switching to a Trezor wallet. Weird the seeds from the image looks like a song.

Hello to you too.

It would be naive to hope to take advantage of the negligence of people taking such careless photos with seed phrases, and also, absolutely unethically, to take advantage of this. In this case, of course, it looks like some kind of prank or joke, but I doubt it about fraud using a similar method. Whether it is possible somehow to use it - I don't represent.

The loss of confidence in the manufacturer of hardware wallets doesn't mean that you need to publish seed phrases with 367BTC, as indicated in your post. Could just stop using this device, that's all.

I have the following point of view:
Ledger devices, from a technical point of view, can probably be trusted, because again, from a technical point of view, they remain reliable devices that have not yet been physically hacked. But Ledger itself, as a company, undoubtedly, thanks to their actions, there is no trust and can't be. But since this company and this devices are inextricably linked, it would be better not to use their products at all, if possible.

"Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
lmao sorry"

Btw, you can see the whole seed here, with the rest of the words:

This guy just trolled Ledger and people looking for free monies. For all we know, he might be an active Ledger user.
Despite being closed source and the recent controversial about their newest service delivery, Ledger still have good amount of following and customers. I think the reason majority of hardware wallet users are still with Ledger is the same reason why some people still prefer fiat to crypto.

For reference, Ledger's CTO already posted about their plans to open source their entire products: https://twitter.com/P3b7_/status/1661012196397305859?s=19

Thank you for your responses.

I honestly didn't think it was a joke, I thought it was some kind of expression of anger at Ledger's lack of transparency.

If it is true that Ledger still (after all) has a large number of users, then we can conclude that the majority of their users are actually unaware of everything that happened in the past and what we learned a few months ago. Basically, it doesn't matter to them that their personal data is hacked and publicly available to anyone who abuses it, nor that the company seems to have the ability to access confidential information on the devices it sells and to share it with third parties (including the authorities).

Whether the reason is that someone is unaware of the risks or doesn't understand the risks, the fact is that the amateurism and crazy moves of that company (from a risk perspective) sound an alarm that everyone should take seriously.

Ledger stabbed themselves in the back with the thoughtless announcement of their Ledger Recover service. It's not something you can easily recover from as a company, even though the drama has calmed down now. Knowingly or unknowingly, they have explained that secure element chips can be programmed to allow remote access, making such chips unsuitable for cold/semi-cold storage with hardware wallets. They are just digging their own grave going forward with the Recover feature.

That aside, that Twitter feed has nothing to do with it and it's just someone who wants some attention, likes, or whatever. One look at that thread and its pictures and you realize that it's just a joke. Check the second picture. Besides the Nano X and seed, there is also a gun and a pocketknife in the picture. No one can and should take that seriously.

What I fear most is rushing to choose alternatives. You will find, with panic, some people decide to switch to another hardware wallet without asking themselves what is the best alternative, and may depend on some opinions from the Internet and it may be worse than Ledger. It is true that choosing an alternative is necessary, but you have some time before installation of firmware updates.

Of course, Some fools rushed to seize the opportunity and Try to recover the wallet using the seed, hoping to find some bitcoins, but of course they will not find anything.

I thought it was a new bot scam where the private key or seed is linked to a high speed script, it's a strange way to prove mistrust.

I honestly didn't think it was a joke, I thought it was some kind of expression of anger at Ledger's lack of transparency.
I didn't pay attention to the words of the seed that actually sounds like a song.

Also, you should be aware there is a quite known scam method using this kind of format.
Initially , the scammer poses as a newbie which has just bought a hardware wallet and "accidentally" shows off his recovery seed phrase.

The scammer has made sure to have a considerable amount of money in the wallet , a couple of hundred of USDT, but no ETH to move it. So anyone who tries to move the tokens transfer some ETH/TRON to pay for the gas, as soon as the ETH/TRON reaches the wallet, a script previously set by the scammer moves it to another wallet under his sole control. So the person who sent the ETH/TRON gets scammed.

Anyone who actually shows a seed phrase which contains funds in it is likely someone trying to scam hundreds out greedy and gullible people on the internet. Be careful.

And how much ETH/TRON will be sent to the wallet with the demonstrated seed phrase to pay for gas? It won't be thousands of dollars, or even hundreds. 5-10$? It's a ridiculous amount.

Are there examples, evidence, confirming that a large amount of money was accumulated in a similar fraudulent way from gullible simpletons?

I'm not saying that the dude with the photo above can't use this fraudulent scheme and his twitter followers are almost 780 thousand people.

No one will show their seed phrase voluntarily, right. If a person was smart enough to create a crypto wallet, then he would be smart enough not to show his seed phrase on the Internet. Undoubtedly, this is some kind of trick.

I dont have the numbers on how much money could have been stolen this way, though it is a scam method which has already been demonstrated to exist. I have seen myself at least one scammer trying to use it here in the forum, by posing as a newbie.

Assuming someone does it in a relatively crowded place where hundreds or thousands of users can see his bait message with the seed phrase, a scammer could easily pocket at least 100$ per time he shares that picture and asks for help, and since each individual victim only losses a relatively small amount of ETH/TRON, then they are less likely to spread what happened to them and make others aware of the scheme. It is a method which is not so highlighted as the free give always scams or the typical ponzis, because at first glance there is no indication there is a scam behind it.

It would be safer if you create a wallet offline/cold wallet compared to using a ready-to-use hardware wallet like Ledger. In terms of security, why would you trust other software/hardware than yourself to protect your wallet?
For a newbie to set up an airgapped wallet is not such an easy task, and i will recommend a hardware wallet like Passport to a newbie rather than an airgapped wallet because of the possibility of them setting it up in an unsafe enviroment, but for a more experienced person who knows exactly what they are doing, they can choose the option of an airgapped wallet.
Ledger devices, from a technical point of view, can probably be trusted, because again, from a technical point of view, they remain reliable devices that have not yet been physically hacked.
Physically hacked should mean your personal hardware device getting stolen or falling into the hands of an attacker, that doesn't count in this context, but Ledger database has been hacked before and their customers' email addresses and other data were exposed for phishing scams.
I honestly didn't think it was a joke, I thought it was some kind of expression of anger at Ledger's lack of transparency.
How can someone express their displeasure at a service by losing their money, when they can move their funds to another wallet with a more trusted brand, nobody in their right senses will lose money in this way.

Actually, if this is done en masse (with empty seed phrases of course!) and regularly, this is a good tactic to overload thieves.

Just go on X, have 10,000 followed people generate a Ledger seed or some other kind of seed phrase, take a picture of it and share it on the site, so all compute farms used for auto-stealing funds can burn a billion cycles of PBKDF2 every few minutes continuously looking for a balance. Smiley

Expressing displeasure by transferring his coins to another wallet and then posting the seed on Twitter, he gave up using the Ledger wallet forever. That's what I understood.

The idea of this tweet is that he has completely lost Trust in the Ledger wallet, and many of the comments shared his opinion.
You've been Rick Rolled without even realizing it!
