I recieved a phishing email with an invoice from Qobuz Sublime to my single use bitcointalk.org email address on the 22nd.

I'm assuming this forum has been compromised, or that the mods have sold their email list.

Edit: I am certain of this folks. I signed up for this forum with an email address that is not used anywhere else. I own my own domain and register for sites with a unique emial address for each. I came here to warn you guys or collaborate, but it seems from your replies that you are either not willing or not able to do so.

MOD: If you like I can forward you the email, DM me an address to send it to.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

Can you provide a screenshot? Email spoofing is not new to these days and anyone can do it with a no to little technical knowledge.

Bitcointalk email have warnings to not to reply on the email, or even click on the links unless those are recovery emails sent to you by the recovery team.

or that the mods have sold their email list.

No, the moderators will not do such a thing for no reason. I think all these hackers have their tricks that they can get your email and begin to send some mails through their own registered email address as bitcointalk.org or some similar name. Just as the above user has said, kindly provide a screenshot for clarity's sake. Also, do not respond to the email.

I'm assuming this forum has been compromised, or that the mods have sold their email list.
If I am not misunderstanding you, Qobuz Sublime is not infiltrating this forum, in fact they are targeting your email, personally.

Qobuz Sublime is the worst service ever in today's internet world.
I'm sure this is what happened to you.
Quote
Sometimes, you receive unwanted emails from people you don't know. Spammers can get your email address through a variety of methods. Here are some of them:
• Guessing - They may use an algorithm to generate variations of the email. They then send the same spam message to every generated email address.
• Hacking - Sometimes secure lists are hacked and details are leaked, including email addresses.
• Purchase - Some companies sell lists of email addresses. Often these lists are created when you respond to free offers.
• Scraping - Spammers can use tools to search the web for email addresses posted online. They then send spam messages to the addresses they find.

One of the points above that you are experiencing right now is not the forum that has a problem, if the forum is the problem, of course we also have a problem, but we are fine and no spammers have entered my e-mail.

So update your e-mail properly or repair your device, so that it is clean from viruses so that you are not attacked by Spammers.

It's been said a million times already that moderators do NOT have access to personal data of forum users. And they physically cannot disclose anything, much less sell any personal data from this forum. Therefore, there is no need to accuse moderators of all sins. Especially without any little bit of truthful evidence.

I don't agree with your opinion, of course this is not a forum problem but most likely you are the party responsible for the case that you are experiencing. I'm not sure if you've really taken care of your privacy so far, but it must be one of the reasons why your email gets noticed.

What are you worried about anyway if you receive those phishing emails regardless of where they come from?
You are still a newbie with one post, of course you can replace your single use email with another email. Simply put it is an easy choice than accusing mods of selling data or there is a user data leak on this forum.

You received a phishing email which you could ignore but instead you came here and bluntly started to accuse the forum and the respected moderators. Even you did not share any proof. If someone send you an email on your email address and you think you did not used that email address to subscribe or register on Qobuz Sublime or in any other platform. Then your words might be of worth.

But guessing someone's email is damn easily and phisher just do not guess email addresses using there mind instead they have bundle of scrapers and tools to guess and extract emails from different open source platforms and they might got your email from there.

It will be better not to use your mail publicly or on any website that has poor security measures. Sometimes websites get hacked or their user data is breached. I have found one of my email addresses from the list of a hacker who breached the data of a well-known company. The moderator of this website is well known for their reputation and their contribution. I do not think this is an insider job and accusing someone especially a forum moderator without solid proof is not a great personality.

Wait - are you sure about that, I mean how good is your memory of never using that email to register on any other platform after more 4 years you never posted anything on the forum?

But first - I disagree with your assumptions.
I don't think there was a compromised - if there was then the admins have announced it to us. To clarify everything - you can visit the privacy section and understand whatever is written there: About privacy

There is a warning that you need to pay attention to about privacy which is the responsibility of every bitcointalk user; here's the quote.

Quote
It's possible to use bitcointalk.org without submitting any personal info. Use Tor + a throwaway email + a new pseudonym, etc. If you care about preventing personal information from being collected on bitcointalk.org, then preventing this collection is your responsibility.

I came here to warn you guys or collaborate, but it seems from your replies that you are either not willing or not able to do so.

Why would they believe you when you’re the only one who has experienced that issue, I also have a dedicated email address that was specifically made for Bitcointalk and I have never posted it anywhere online and the only mails I receive there are those from new Personal messages and also new threads in boards that I track. I have never received any other mails from an unknown service before so how the heck do you expect me to believe you.

The only time I think mods your emails are exposed to mods is when you’re reporting a post to them through “report to moderator” function because this message is always displayed there. Please note that your email address will be revealed to the moderators if you use this.

I'm assuming this forum has been compromised, or that the mods have sold their email list.

What makes your account particularly special to be the focus of a phishing emails? Your account represents just a tiny fraction of the overall user accounts registered on the forum. Unless we start witnessing numerous reports of similar incidents, there is no basis for drawing such a conclusion. So your assumptions are wrong and unfounded.

Edit: I am certain of this folks. I signed up for this forum with an email address that is not used anywhere else. I own my own domain and register for sites with a unique emial address for each. I came here to warn you guys or collaborate, but it seems from your replies that you are either not willing or not able to do so.

There are various methods that spammers can employ to acquire your email, even if you haven't used it anywhere else on the internet. They might resort to techniques such as dictionary attacks, using malware or malicious browser extensions, or even making educated guesses based on common email address formats. Additionally, hackers could intercept email communication through unsecured networks.

The point is, do not rush to conclusions without all the facts. Just because your email ended up with a spammer does not mean you know exactly how it happened.

If I never had any prior reading experience and hadn't made reading an attitude, I'd believe this clown.. The mods? They don't even have access to your PIs ... maybe for the same reason you just accused them.
I receive different mails every single day and I'm not surprised when I see thing like that... The thing is,.. I don't even click on them, talk more of reconsidering whatever offers they may tend to falsify...
Edit: this user - in 4 years - seems to have made Thier first post today... which appears to be a baseless warning.

Chiming in to say my forum-only email address has not received a phishing email as well. As pointed out by others, there are other ways for malicious people to get ahold of your email address.

Honestly speaking, it wouldn't make sense for the forum to sell our emails as well because what for? money? ICYMI, theymos disabled the ad auction that generates a good sum of money to err on the side of caution and that already says a lot. There is no need to resort to such thing and risk reputation.

I recieved a phishing email with an invoice from Qobuz Sublime to my single use bitcointalk.org email address on the 22nd.

I'm assuming this forum has been compromised, or that the mods have sold their email list.
If this were the case(which it is not) you wouldn't be the only person who has an account on bitcointalk receiving an email from Qobuz Sublime, and so far, you are the only one who has made a post about it. also, just like PX-Z, I am curious to see a screenshot of the email that was sent to you, would you mind providing one?

Post a screenshot showing this or it didn't really happen.
I see you registered n forum back in 2019 and you didn't make a single post in forum until today, so I don't know why anyone would want to sell your zero ''data''.
On the other hand, it's always possible that someone exploits any website, including bitcointalk forum, so you using unique email for each website is a good strategy.

I believe the OP doesn't appear to be serious about his accusations - in fact it is very unlikely to get any evidence of how he got the phishing attempt by accusing his forum and data of being compromised. Many of us disagree with this assumtion - but if this forum data were to be leaked then the affected users definitely aren't newbies having only 1 post since 2019.
