What happened : Trustwallet's fake airdrop paid ads on Twitter.
Website :
Code:
https://trustwallet.xn--clam-xpa.com/?twclid=2-4ghsfeer1d6x6ec9ez0176q21

Twitter : https://twitter.com/yanisss06
Twitter ads link : https://twitter.com/yanisss06/status/1695497917321076781?t=L6bZkM0uHbU_M1xy-EfmdQ&s=19

Scammers have now started promoting fake airdrop websites with paid ads on Twitter, which is a big warning for crypto users. Twitter is approving these ads without any kind of verification, which is very surprising. Crypto users should be careful as they may be tempted to connect their wallets to these websites after seeing such advertisements. Since now the trend of scamming with these paid ads has started, we will see more terrible fake, phishing website ads on Twitter in the coming days.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Twitter is approving these ads without any kind of verification, which is very surprising.
Why are you surprised? How about Google and many other tech giants that are advertising scam. I remember when I started to learn about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and when I joined this forum, what I first researched on that time and which people on this forum were referring to as a way to hack someones device and wallet are ads. It would be good for people to try as much as possible to abstain from ads generally.

About the airdrops, people should see it as a waste of time unless they have made enough research that proof the airdrop is not fake. But ignorance make some people to go for airdrops which have numerous ways that scammers and hackers can use to against their victim like paying before receiving, submitting KYC which can be used against the victim through phishing attack, and victims connecting wallet to scammer's website which will make the scammers to compromise the victim's wallets and all coins on it would be stolen.

These ads are quite rampant and I have come across them as well. Here is a scammer with 12k followers pretending to be Trustwallet Support. While these types of scams were common prior to Musk's takeover, now they can purchase a blue checkmark for a few dollars and significantly boost the amount of people they are able to reach.

Many crypto users are eager to participate in airdrops, and they are the easiest targets for scammers. Due to some recent big airdrops, this trend of fake airdrops has started and as the attackers are already succeeding in their moves, they are spending money to create more new websites. If crypto users are not alerted, these scammers will continue to create such phishing websites, so increasing awareness among crypto users is of the utmost importance.

The reason, in my opinion, is the blue checkmark, it gives a kind of legitimacy to the account, which seems to be legal, and many beginners may believe that fraud. The changes made to the X increased freedom of expression and increased activity of scammers.

10,000,000 TWT is not a small, it's almost 84 million dollars, and no one will give it away in free distribution, these scammers are stupid and not everyone will believe it. I am convinced that more people will start to think that cryptocurrencies are money and money does not grow on trees.

Since Twitter ( X ) introduced the paid subscription Blue checkmark, the activity of scammers has increased to such an extent that it may have broken all previous records. Previously, blue badged accounts were considered trusted because they were verified accounts, which prevented scammers from scamming using unlimited verified accounts.
But now it's easier for scammers because of paid services, and most crypto users don't even have the awareness that these are fake accounts.

What happened : Trustwallet's fake airdrop paid ads on Twitter.
@ScamViruS, this is one clear warning that should be avoided for those who like to chase token airdrops, especially the community that resides here.

I've seen lately that scammers often aim to promote their token airdrop via social media in the name of Trust Wallet, as I've seen.
For example:
* Beware! 3M Polkadot Airdrop Is Fake, Twitter Scammers Run Rampant.

And about the recovery email, so: Do not trust emails asking you to confirm your Trust Wallet recovery phrase.

It seems that everyone at this time has to think and be careful, scammers don't get tired of looking for their prey, for that beware of all kinds of token airdrops on behalf of other people.

This is what we get when they sell trust for as little as $8 monthly. Before, it was considered that any verified account has passed some kind of required verification and can be trusted to some point, and those who are able to get their account verified can't risk running some scam or spam activities with it as it can put the account at risk. But right now, since those trusts are now being sold for just $8, which any scammer can afford, and using some bot to fill in their followers numbers, this is really not surprising at all.

Aside from the time that Binance distributed this TWT token to their customers as either a new year's bonus or a December bonus (I can't remember correctly), I don't think there has ever been any legitimate airdrop conducted by TrustWallet. I pity those who are always active on the internet in search of free money, as they are usually the ones who fall victim to this kind of scam out of ignorance.

What happened : Trustwallet's fake airdrop paid ads on Twitter.
Website :
Code:
https://trustwallet.xn--clam-xpa.com/?twclid=2-4ghsfeer1d6x6ec9ez0176q21

Twitter : https://twitter.com/yanisss06
Twitter ads link : https://twitter.com/yanisss06/status/1695497917321076781?t=L6bZkM0uHbU_M1xy-EfmdQ&s=19

Scammers have now started promoting fake airdrop websites with paid ads on Twitter, which is a big warning for crypto users. Twitter is approving these ads without any kind of verification, which is very surprising.
It seems you forgot that Twitter is in for business, and as such ready to promote whatever goods or services been provided, in as much as you are willing & able to pay the required ads price. So this is not new my friend, as I have seen many on both Facebook & Google. So it's left for us to keep on updating the newbies just as you have done, and for people to always try to do their own research on any online offer before claiming or investing in it, as many are likely to be a scam, which I'm sure many will likely fall for this since "Trustwallet" is one of the most newbie-friendly and popular crypto wallets.

It seems you forgot that Twitter is in for business, and as such ready to promote whatever goods or services been provided, in as much as you are willing & able to pay the required ads price.
I don't forget that they are doing business. And not to overconfidently say that just because I know all about this, the rest of the crypto users must know all about it too. This warning is for users to be aware of how X (twitter) is working after the new update. Many crypto users lost their funds due to Google, Facebook ads, now it's time for X (twitter) to be the most used medium by scammers, isn't it better to be warned before falling victim to scams? Or should we post a warning after falling victim to a scam! Warning posts like this are just an attempt to warn newbies, if they can learn something from here to keep themselves safe.

Yes, I understand you mate, and I just wish this thread would be on the first page of this forum for all newbies to see and get informed about the new way/style of scamming. However, it's been a nice idea, that you brought this to our notice here on the forum, and I will keep on saying that until all crypto newbies inculcate the habit of verifying & confirming whatever advert or airdrop found on social media (i.e test of authenticity by doing their own research), it will greatly reduce the rate at which people will fall victim to this.

Such threads can be useful because they will appear first that the user searches for the appropriate words in Google, but unfortunately some are lazy and do not even search in Google or ask trusted and experienced people before investing in such scam.
Reporting is another solution, but it takes some time, and applications unfortunately care more about advertisements and profits than the safety of users and limiting scam.

Scammers are making Twitter richer by purchasing blue ticks while gullible people are paying the price.

Plenty users wouldn't even be aware of Twitter's rebrand, it's updates and would still be thinking blue tick gives authenticity to the account. Scammers are capitalizing on this psychological tendency, It will take a while before people realize this tick means nothing.

I do not think that is true. Blue ticks can be bought by scammers, but they buy them for a month or two, and it is rare to find long-term scam. It is true that they buy a thousand accounts, but for a month or two, and healthy growth is by buying 500 accounts for several months. I expect that with more time, the impact of this fraud will diminish and become economically ineffective. We will have yellow, gray ticks.

Are you surprised?

Elon will take money from anywhere to save his sinking X-shaped ship.

It's not going to go away either, the status quo will stay like this until they get lawsuits from users who have been burned.

You can at least block these promoted tweets using a decent ad blocker, such as uBlock origin, and I think Adblock also blocks these ads since I don't see any promoted tweets on my mobile phone.

When a fake website uses the name of a popular wallet and advertises fake airdrops on Twitter, these ads don't get approval if Twitter does the slightest bit of rechecking. I am really surprised after seeing the recent activities of Twitter (X).

Adsblocker can be a solution to block such ads, but most Twitter users do not use adsblocker which makes them the target of such ads. Elon Musk is willing to do anything to increase X.com's revenue, which is currently the perfect example of such ads.

Elon is going to raid the sofas for spare change. This is going to tank the platform's appeal to a large percentage of its users and he will still be short a few billion required to make Twitter/X break even.

Social media companies in general are not profitable, because they rely on ads, whose profits are subject to decline as more privacy features are introduced into operating systems - I remember how iOS 14 data collection permissions wiped out $10 billion from Meta's revenue for example.

Shit things are happening in social media, they are getting so serious about profit that they are giving permission to promote scams on their platform. Twitter (X) is taking very aggressive decisions now that they don't care about the safety of their users. It is now easier for crypto scammers to reach out to crypto users, as a large portion of crypto users use Twitter(X).

A little while ago I saw another advertisement using the name of a popular crypto project scammers trying to get access to the wallets of crypto users.
