You're talking like farmers are making a lot money, this is not true because most of farmers are not really rich, they're just middle or low class people.

Farmers always get pressured with agent who're used to buy all of their harvest to sellers who will sell it to customer. What I know the sellers are mostly make a lot money because they're taking more risk that would receive higher profit.

Food prices always increased, currently it's caused by climate change since the weather is really hot and rarely to rain.

What you are experiencing is a seasonal scarcity caused by drought which made food stuffs to be quite expensive in the market in your country. Inflation is global and it gets worse when you have a bad government that's corrupt, short sighted and care less about its citizens. In my country we were already feeling the impact of inflation, then a new government took over april this year. After coming into office, the new administration immediately removed fuel subsidy which took fuel price to four times the initial price. The hike in fuel price skyrocketed the price of commodities in the markets and it's having a great toll on the lives of everyone.

In my country the food prices have increased by more than 50% in the last two years. There's no drought where I live and the agriculture production levels seems to be OK.
Many people are complaining about the big merchants forming a secret cartel and artificially pumping the prices, but so far there's no evidence and the government's anti-trust commission isn't doing it's job to find and punish the cartels.
I guess that we should put the blame on the pandemic and all the government support programs and "helicopter money" which were thrown at the economy back then. I don't know anything about the situation in your country, but I think that it's normal for food prices to go up, when there is a severe drought.

The situation in my country is so out of control that I don't think I can't explain it all. Since the new president took office at the beginning of 2023, everything has changed, and the first thing to change is the price of fuel. In my country, if the price of fuel changes, everything else will follow because we all know how important and valuable fuel is to every nation. Since agricultural products are the most significant resource in every nation and the price of fuel has increased, this has had an impact on all of the nation's resources, including its supply of agricultural goods. As a result, now that even food prices have increased, no one can foresee what they will be.

My concern is that the current state of affairs is beginning to negatively impact many citizens of the nation, especially the poor. Some citizens of the nation are already poor, making it difficult for them to eat, so how are they supposed to feed themselves now that food prices have increased?,I'm constantly wondering: Are the people who elected this government the ones who are suffering because of their decisions? To be if this is due to the government not knowing his responsibilities.

It is okay to point out what caused and contributed the increase in agricultural products in Nigeria is fuel but you should have also pointed out that Nigeria as a country mostly use imported goods not entirely dependent only their locally made product. They import almost everything they use.

Since that's what they do(importing goods from other countries), we can imagine what the cost of the things they import would be since their naira exchange rate to the dollar is approximately 900 naira to $1.

Until the time, Nigerians learn to produce or use their locally made products and have their own refinery, the price of things will be stabilized in a way that both the rich and the poor can afford.

Before that time comes, they will still be experiencing hardship and an increase in the price of goods and services.

EVERY country, including ours, is seeing an increase. It's not just your country or mine; it's the whole world. The prices? They're going up everywhere. It's a disaster, honestly! Rice, wheat, you name it - everything's going up. And what's the cause? Droughts, politics, bad policies, you know, the usual. I've always believe we need to make things better, but nobody actually care. And now look where we are.

On to farmers now: generating income? Yes, in the near future. However, what would happen if the drought persisted? No crops = no revenue. But I suppose not everyone is worried about that, am I right? It's always about getting what you want now. The problem here is shortsightedness. The economy was improving, didn't it? However, these escalating costs are a slap in the face. The economy starts to improve, but suddenly a new difficulty appears. It's like a story that never ends. Everywhere I turn, I see people crying. Who wouldn't, too?

The world can be difficult because it frequently throws curveballs. But we must get together, uncover answers, and restore order. I don't know if other people feel the same way, but that's how it looks to me. I won't even begin to talk about the government. They could accomplish a lot more! But rather? They do nothing but observe as events escalate. It's fucked

You're not alone in this mess. Everyone's in the same boat. And while I wish I could say it's different here, it's not. Prices? Rising. Drought? Everywhere. Solutions? Nowhere in sight. Unbelievable

Since August in my country, the price of food, especially food staples such as wheat, rice and others, has experienced a very high price increase. This was apparently caused by the ongoing drought. Which makes several areas of plantations and rice fields fail to harvest due to lack of availability of water to water the plants. And this makes food stocks in the market start to run low from time to time. And yes, the price hike ensued. Rice prices here have even increased by around 9-10 percent in the last month in my area. And I'm afraid the increase will continue. Because many residents are starting to talk that if the drought continues longer then it is feared that the increase will occur higher and faster. For farmers, it can be said that currently they are getting big profits because they can sell agricultural products at high prices. but for ordinary citizens who do not have agricultural land, the current food prices really make them tight.

The residents' economic sector has actually begun to recover and improve in the past few months. But because at this time there was another spike in prices again, it made the people around me start to complain again about the current economy.

But I was wondering if this only happened in my country or in your country too?

Seriously, have gotten alot thinking on this. apparently in my country it has been a serious issue that we need not take for granted, cause its not helping the poor masses.

The increase in the prices of things have made so many individual unable to reach a particular target.and each day it keeps increasing and causing damages to the nation.

I wonder what the government its saying, cause its leading to the death of so many lives, cause they cant meet up to their expectation and i think we need to go back to agriculture and farming because this is the way out.

You cannot compare all farmers, they plant different crops, some will have a good harvest, some will have a bad one, but farmers in any case bear greater risks than distributors, since they can plan at what price they will buy goods from farmers and at what price they will sell it.

Food prices will always rise primarily due to inflation, it is an almost constant process that never stops. Everything from seeds to fertilizers and fuel, which is needed in large quantities for harvesting, is becoming more expensive. Climate can also affect certain segments, if the year is very dry, prices will be even more expensive.

Even without drought or crop failure, the price of food or any other commodity will increase over time, and if there is no inflation or crop failure, they will increase but they won't increase quickly and we won't notice. Just compare food prices many years ago and prices before inflation occurred and you will see a huge difference. My country is also an agricultural country but does not have crop failures like your country, but prices are still very high compared to before inflation occurred and show almost no signs of decreasing.

Op I don't know which country you are. And if care is not taking the cost of living is worst in my country than yours. In my country fuel and US dollar are the determinants of cost of living. When dollar price rise up all the commodities also followed up including the local manufactured goods. But the imported goods are the worse to price in the market. And why the local manufactured goods are also cost because those who sell them will also buy the foreign goods so they have to sell their in a higher price to meet up with the foreign goods.

There is no constant General Light in the country so everyone who has a business that use light, buy their personal generators and buy fuel to do their businesses. So as fuel price increase they have to increase their services so that they can buy fuel again to run the businesses. So in all aspects of life in my country now is cost. And poor are crying everyday to survive.

Your country might be facing high inflation which has resulted in a significant increase in the price of goods and services. When a country depends on too much exportation than importation, this is usually what they face at the end of the day, the local food they ought to have produced within their own country like rice, wheat and other grains are all imported and with such behaviour, their purchasing power will continue to go down and the currency will become worthless.

Furthermore, when a country values so much another currency than their own currency, its currency doesn't usually have much value. My country, for example, is having similar challenges in dollarization, people prefer to have things in dollars than the local currency, and this has made the Naira become rubbish with high inflation in the general rise of food costs, you can't have few Naira and want to enjoy life any longer because they are worthless, hopefully, things changed with the new policy the monetary system has been implementing.

We reside in the same country, OP, but I sense that our regions differ.

Here, the market prices for basic necessities have indeed experienced an increase, but it remains within reasonable limits. In my view, the rise isn't too significant, only hovering around 4% to 5%. As for prepared food, its prices remain unchanged, without any increase.

In accordance with the weather cycle in our tropical nation, it is likely that the rainy season will begin from October to April, so it is quite common for many crops to suffer from drought as we are approaching the end of the dry season.

In our country, we often experience an imbalance in the distribution of food commodities which causes differences in basic prices. In fact, the government has tried many things, especially minimizing geographical constraints on distribution (Indonesia is an archipelagic country). However, there are a few monopoly "games" by local elites who take advantage of various situations and are backed by a corrupt government.

If we talk about farmer income or low selling prices making farmers less prosperous, it all depends on government policy because the government has a big role in regulating the price of fertilizer (agricultural material) and also its purchase. prices in big factories.

However, the increase in food prices in a country is not necessarily because the agricultural sector is experiencing disruption, because the increase in food prices is also influenced by currency fluctuations and global economic factors which have quite an influence on the increase in food prices in a country.

As time goes by, almost every country experiences this, all of which are influenced by the global economy which will affect production costs, currency fluctuations, increases in world fuel prices and several others, causing an increase in food prices in every country, even though it is an agrarian country, but there are some of the things that affect this increase (if the country's government is not able to overcome and balance then they will also be based on the global economy) so it's the same in my opinion.

Here in our country, it seems that there is no hope for the main commodities to go down because,  as time goes by, the prices are gradually increasing; even gasoline or crude oil are still going up. What's worse is that everyone is increasing the price, but the wages of the employees here are not increasing.

When the inflation rate increases, consumers will have more problems. The latest thing that has increased here is the price of rice due to those hoarding it. That's why I'm scratching my head about how to budget in these situations.

Food prices has increased in many parts of the world and I think it has to do with the war going on in Ukraine and Russia. The war is affecting many things that Russian is known to supply and this is affecting other sectors. When food prices increase, the farmers aren't always those that benefits the most instead it's the resellers of the foodstuff that they buy from the farmers and also things used in farming increase in price so the farmers aren't always winning in this situations.

The changes in the price of food items has the bad weather toblame because of climate change making growing of foodstuffs difficult. Climate change has been in the top world issue for the past decade and nothing impactful has been done to resolve climate change.

Not entirely sure where you reside, OP but I kinda relate to how much rice has been rising like crazy here as well in my country. I don't want to get political, but sometimes you just can't help but blame the one that governs the country due to the action s/he made.

What sucks even more is the jobs these days that don't tend to pay in align or at least higher than the current inflation. Sometimes I do think about working overseas just to make my income 100x higher than how I get paid locally.

Rice prices here have even increased by around 9-10 percent in the last month in my area.
In which area do you live? As far as I know, the government has warehouses for basic food supplies, especially rice, spread across every city district and this functions to maintain a stable distribution of commodity needs. An increase of 10% is actually quite high, in my area it has been quite stable since the pandemic ended. Do farmers in your area only trade their products locally?
It is true, if this is implemented or carried out by the central government instructing regional governments, it may not increase until it reaches 10%. But now in reality this is also happening where I am, where the government has failed to make policies and there is no food warehouse to maintain the stability of basic food prices, so that when there is a shortage of food needs prices rise very high.

In addition, this price increase is of course due to the government's mistake in protecting the mafia collectors. Because they buy from farmers at low prices but they sell at high prices in the market, this is what the current government doesn't know what they want. This is what happened to farmers, their crops were bought at low prices by collectors, resulting in an imbalance of farmers with very expensive fertilizer prices, so rice farmers suffered huge losses.

And maybe there is no more capital for reinvestment, sad. If the government wants to eradicate high food prices one by one, it must improve the welfare of farmers by stabilizing the prices of farmers' production of rice, chilies, etc. which of course is followed by very expensive fertilizer so that it costs nothing. There needs to be a balance for farmers so that food prices will also be stable.

There can only be one thing that the government can do so they can easily take action without opposition blocking what they are about to do, Buy the farms of the farmers. If it's not profitable for farmers, the government will buy their farmland. It's been happening worldwide.

All prices of things that are for sale are running high so it's not surprising anymore. Gas prices have doubled since the pandemic. No country today is exempted from this crisis.
The wheat supply chain was blamed because of the Ukraine war and rice in Asia I think was also because India stopped exporting because they wanted food security.

It is true that currently commodity prices continue to increase, including the price of rice which is the staple food in our country. The reason is, fertilizer prices continue to skyrocket every year. To meet the domestic demand for fertilizer, we still depend on other countries (imports), while the availability of fertilizer is very limited, which causes the price to skyrocket. This makes some farmers confused and confused about the increasing need for fertilizer, while the availability of fertilizer is very limited and the price is expensive.

It's certainly not an individual phenomenon, but a worldwide issue. However, some countries have been affected more than others, something that can be quickly identified by checking the annual inflation growth for each country. Everything is pretty much more expensive—rent, electricity, gasoline, not just groceries. Vegetables have doubled in price; snacks, soft drinks, and so on have also seen massive increases that aren't justified; and don't get me started on meat and dairy products. Even chicken and pork were generally considered cheap a year or two ago; now they're unbearable.

I used to buy chicken fillet at approximately €6 to €6.50 per kg, and now it's up to €10, and pork steaks from €4.50 to €5.00 to over €7.00 to €7.50. Buying cheese such as Feta or any large-cutting cheese is out of the question. Even budget supermarket chains such as Lidl are too expensive nowadays. The unfortunate is that I don't see any stop at this madness, prices seem to keep increasing.
