It's way more messy than the original client, and each gui element takes up way too much space. and it doesn't remember the layout once i close it.

But I do like some of the features, like the loading screen and data exporting.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

You are not alone, I have started new thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52517.0 with the same complaints and ranted about new qt version in few other threads. So at least the criticism is 100% valid.

The Export function might be useful for some users. It might be located under File -> Export to .CSV

Probably I should call to Fork Bitcoin. The 0.4.1 is nice example, maybe Bitcoin 0.4.2 is coming out. Will run them as long as they are operating.

Edit: Your screenshots of Bitcoin-qt look much better than on my computer. Just try to switch to Classic theme under Windows 7 and you will know what irritates my eyes. That's why native Windows API is so good, it is compatible with all M$ windows incarnations.

Compared to the old gui, I love the new one. However, it still needs a lot of work.

In case you're unaware, the V next to a transaction means it has 6 confirmations. When it has less there are different icons, and hovering over it displays the exact number of confirmations. It takes less horizontal space than the confirmations listing in the old GUI.

wouldn't it be better to make the slightly row greyed out? and on mouseover, tell how many confirmations are needed?

Maybe. My point was that in this regard the qt GUI isn't more space-consuming than the old GUI.

I think the V (check) appear with 120 confirmations not 6.

Only for generation transactions. Eligius pays out with the generation transaction which is why that's what you saw, but for normal transactions it's 6.

qt is saves space by replacing some words with symbols. but it also adds tons of useless icons and makes all the tables bigger. I think we can all agree that with the same amount of screen space, the original bitcoin client can fit more transactions than the qt version. The default window size of the qt client is too big as well.

The things that are replaced with icons are pain in !@#$. I need to hover my cursor over and wait until popup appears, so I get my information. The new UI is retarded, I installed 0.4.1 over 0.5.0 and it works flawless!

You complain about free software? I'm sure there's developers waiting around to make you the perfect software if you're willing to pay.. And unless the author of the program sees the complaints, how can he do anything about it?

What about thanking this person for using of his free time to create something for others to use? Ungrateful users, I must say. If you were paying customers, not getting what you paid for, I'd understand, but this...

The screenshots are about version 5.0?  Shocked

It SUCKS! Luckily i still have my 4.0 here...

Also free software? With all the bounties&co spent, it's not exactly free... And there is a lot of really free software much much better than this

Is it so hard to make a decent gui? Is it so hard to NOT make things worse?

the interface was fine as it was. the "overview" tab is completely useless; all the information can be seen in the transactions tab. I have no idea why the "export" function is a button. it's not something that everyone uses. Most of the status indicators (connections, blocks) are now replaced with web 2.0-ish icons and i have to hover over them to get the info i want. And to top it all off, the new interface uses up more screen area while providing less information. I know it's "free" software, but it doesn't have to take a step back.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I don't like the whitespace on the overview either, but the rest is just fine with me. If anything, I'd like to know if any of my transactions are pending and if they are how many confirmations they need on the overview.

I'm fine with this version. And rather than waste more time re-vamping the gui I'd much rather see future work on an "import private key" and other useful features.

(On the other hand when I see how much has been done so quickly on the blockchain.info wallet it makes me wonder if the devs get much time in on the client)
