You don't need all the above-mentioned means of verification in order to change your username; you have already done what's required, which is sending a message to the admin. You just have to wait and see when he approves the change for you.
 
I believe your chances of getting your new user name approved are based on the reason you might have given for the change of name request, and your activeness and contribution to the forum also have some added advantage in determining if it will be approved and how fast it can be done.
 
Unless those that have special offers to their profiles, which they got either from their active contributions in the past or donations done to the forum, I don't think any user can change his or her name by itself. You can join the donators league if you are in such a hurry to change the name.
 
And for the moderators, I think their access to what they can do is limited, and changing users names is one that I think they don't have access to, as I have not come across any statement of such (correct me if I am wrong).

If I am not wrong moderators can't change the user names even global mods so only admins can change it so you can send a message one more time to Cyrus or theymos. If still not considered then it's safe to assume that your request is more likely rejected and for the record only very few people succeeded with the name change requests in bitcointalk.

Alternate options:

You can create a new account with the name you wish and use it further (just my opinion though) because having multiple accounts in bitcointalk is allowed.

If you're being ignored, you either have to be persistent or just accept it. It took The Pharmacist (a well known user) a very long time to get his name change.

Firstly you should understand that this is a big community and you are not the only one sending messages to theymos or any staff here and they are humans not bots and also they have their own life outside this fourm.

You are not the only one who wants some sort of changes in their name and before you they may have been lots of messages sent to theymos concerning that and he can not handle all at the same time so I suggest you have some Patience .

As LoyceMobile said persistent and patience is the only way out,if you must change your name,because Theymos is busy with other important things. It is also his choice to do that or not. Just keep on trying. I have also seen that it takes a long time before such request of change of name is being granted.

You can create a new account with the name you wish and use it further (just my opinion though) because having multiple accounts in bitcointalk is allowed.

If he can be persistent and get theymos to change the name that would be more better than having to create a brand new sacking just so he can get the username that he desires, aside from the fact that he would have to start from scratch all his post history would be gone which hold some memories to his account and journey here in the forum.

Now that the thread has been made public I think it will get the attention of Theymos ^{in addition to all the mentions he’ll receive from this thread}, so the Op should just hope that his request get approved.

I once asked @The Cryptovator. He did it for the right reasons, for that his name was agreed to be changed, do you have the right reasons to do it all.

However, if I may suggest a little to you, try to communicate with @The Cryptovator, how does the process of changing the name go well and quickly respond.

If you want to request a name change, you need to have a valid reason for it to be changed. Assuming you stated your reason to Theymos via PM and you didn't get a response, chances are, it's a no. I don't think you just wanting to have that different username is a "valid" enough of a reason — same with dozens and dozens of namechange requests.

OP to be sincere with you, you're not in the right position to make such demand, first is that you are newbie and not an established member of this forum, secondly, you're not giving any genuine reason for doing that, thirdly it's not a right to demand for such function, else everyone may decide on changing their username, i think before now, Theymos do grant for that but i don't know if that still exist anymore, but for you sending him a PM doesn't mean he must reply you or you must complain about his action, am sure that for those that he once granted such request, this is not the format they use in writing, also for your information, bringing this open here will only reduce more your chances of getting it done, it's not by getting others people's attention, it's by standing in the right position that may place your request on high priority.

I've heard and read stories of name changes but all I've seen are for highly reputable members  and not lower ranks and I could remember that of pharmacist and I couldn't remember it ever  being an easy one and just as other users have already suggested, that you stay very persistent and always try to get the attention of thymos on this especially  on every occasion you get and I would have suggested you tag him on every thing that concerns him but that might not be really respectful.

And I'm not sure if your reasons for name change will be considered but I think it's enough reason for me especially  if there isn't any other user with same name already.

You can only wait for theymos to accept your request. There's no other forum staff who can change your forum name but the admin only. What I can say is it's either your request gets approved or not. What to do in order for you to ask a request is to PM theymos which you have done already and you should just wait but if nothing happens then it's rejected. Well, you can try to request again but if it's the same then you know already that it's rejected also the amin of this forum is very busy.
