Let's make it really easy, unlike the genie story that backfired quite early! You find by mistake/hack/will of the god the key to an address holding 15 BTC, but it has those 15 BTC in 1620634  outputs.
What do you do and how do you do?

That link is blocked for my ip, but I guess the only way is to pay it all as fees to a miner? Though that's a solution for the rightful owner.😉

Where you live Kim FungNet basement?
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/1HckjUpRGcrrRAtFaaCAUaGjsPx9oYmLaZ

only way is to pay it all as fees to a miner?

Which would cost you exactly how much?

Two votes:
You bang your head against the wall till you pass out
You try to at least get a reward for returning the keys

Not bad, not sexy, not outrageous not terrible.

You try to at least get a reward for returning the keys... will be my option since every miner that's able to successfully mine a block has the block reward he's entitled to. I will just claim it.

Why do such transactions need to be manually entered by a miner? You have up to TX_WEIGHT = 400000 which enables you to set up a transaction up to that size and then keep broadcasting the transactions until you have one input of 15 BTC.
I do not know the amount of fees you will pay, but it will definitely not reach 1 Bitcoin. Assuming it does, a miner will not be able to send them all in one transaction, and then the same process will follow.

The choice to admit that these coins are not yours will not change the reality of what can be done in mempool.

Why?

How can you be sure that it belongs to nobody or is unclaimed?

If someone had lost those coins and suddenly you find their paper wallet or something, you should not move it away without trying to establish contact with the other person,  otherwise you become no better than the scammers and hackers who steal BTC.

I will do the right thing..... to return it to the owner of that address. I believe good deeds will be rewarded and that bad deeds will be punished by karma. I have several examples where I did the right thing and it turned out good for me...

I once returned someone's lost wallet and as I walked to my car, I received an SmS from my Bank and when I opened it, it showed that I won a small jackpot on the Lottery that I bought tickets to via the Banking App...  Grin Grin Grin

Reality check sometimes no one really cares even if you committed a good action, in the end, it's to their benefit that they get back their money and possibly they will blame you like you stole it. If they lose their keys its their mistake at all, also even if you announce this sure many people will claim those and you don't have any verification that its on them so its your choice tho 15 BTC is 15 BTC even its just a 2 digit BTC once you check the price it can sustain your living for more years.

I will return the keys back to the owner, because it is the right thing to do. If he doesn't reward me,i will get my reward later because who knows if you will save a life at that moment. It might be all the owner has and have being saving it for a very long time. What i have observe in life is that if you dont take or pick what doesn't belong to you,you will hardly loss your property. This is how the world is,you shall reap what you sow.

Haha, I was thinking outside the box here. Which is a 6th option to not give the reward to the real owners and live a life like nothing happened, so I do not have to ask the authorities where all the funds are coming from. haha. Just kidding. Well, if I come to find a Hard Ware wallet, or by any means, I find access to a wallet containing that much BTC.

I will definitely return the amount to the real owners, and if the real owners are not found, then boom, that's a jackpot for me, and I will keep those bitcoins as they are mine and I have earned them with great hard work.  Wink Wink

I am glad you made that decision. Because in today's world, people tend not to return things even after borrowing them, one who finds lost things will tend to find the real owners and then return that thing to them. Such people are so rare to be found, but we should really not return things out in hope of getting a reward because that will not do any good to us. But what if the person does not recognize us, then would we not tend to return things afterwards?

Well, contacting the morons who own the keys is the first point of action, that is supposing there's a contact information visible enough to my conscience's eyes and anyone who may have been around or bore witness to the find.
It is also a point to note, that there's a common phrase that says 'not your keys, not your coins'. Such a find is mine with such saying, but with being humane as the first principle on which the BTC ideal stands, I would do well to make contact while I hold unto the keys till it is down to the options of reinvesting it.
Turning to the authority is pointless for me at this point, because quite frankly, anyone with such amount would have done well to avoid the authority or hackers and would track down the coins, not sure if mixers would work at this point too.
This is 15btc we talking about, not 1.5btc.

I do not know the amount of fees you will pay, but it will definitely not reach 1 Bitcoin.

I was curious how bad that is:
Batching 1000 inputs 1 output at 15sat is 0.021 BTC, you have 1620634 then 1600 of those to consolidate so that's 33.6 BTC.
Basically, consolidation for the whole address over 7sat/b is losing money, assuming dust is distributed evenly then it makes almost no sense right now to take advantage of it.

Returning it to the owner is the right thing to do. but it would be a pain if there no identity to be traced on that wallet address.

I know it is not mine so I do not have the right to keep it.  And according to the policy on a lost item, there is a time requirement for the finders to own the lost item but he needs to report it to the authority for record and serve as validation to own that item if the time for the owner to claim the item lapses.

You found? Do you just go about looking for Bitcoin that's not yours?
It's logical what is not yours and you take it then that's a crime and don't care if you feel it's the grace of what ever faith you believe in.

There is no need to get into this in the first place, if it's not your wallet then I think you should not try any technicality to get it without the permission of the owner.

Discovering the keys to an address with 15 BTC split across 1,620,634 outputs is indeed a unique situation. First and foremost, I'd recommend considering the legal and ethical aspects. It's essential to act responsibly.

For those interested in cryptocurrency and blockchain projects, https://presale.world offers insights into ICOs and pre-sales. While this may not directly address the situation described, it's a valuable resource for exploring legitimate opportunities in the crypto world.
Regarding the discovered BTC, seeking legal advice and potentially contacting relevant authorities would be the right course of action.

I like how most of the replies are return it to the owner, cause there's a quote not your keys? Of course not your coins cause it's like already stealing if you taken that wallet even when you said the owner leave it open for people to steal it's always wrong. There's no bad thing if you're expecting something in return cause that amount is actually no joke. It might be hard to trace the owner so if you report it to the police or any authority I think it would be useless plus there's a lot of hackers and scammers once they found out your information holding huge amount of BTC. It's like you're carrying the responsibility so a giving you something in return would be appreciated.
