Recently just saw the news that Vitalik account has been hacked on a Telegram group .I feel so sorry for those that were scammed there hard-earned money This is a very unfortunate event but its crypto anything can happen lots of scammers everyone. Everyone has to be more careful with his funds to avoid being a victims of those scammers.

Thats too bad for those who got victimized with the scam. We cant blame them to pursue such potential free nft however, with massive scams due to hack account of prominent personalities it increases the crime of those scammers. I have to admit that i might have fallen into that too. Vitalik might be the last person i would have foreseen getting hacked so i totally understand why people risked their wallets on it. Now the question is HOW did he get hacked?

And people saying that he is making this hack up for money? Are you serious? Same guy who doesn't value money in same ways most people do. Same guy that donated more than $1.2 billion to India Covid Relief Fund just while ago and is known to donate money all the time? That guy would drain wallets? That's insane.

The account already restored to the vitalik and he had removed the phishing link that posted on his twitter last day. The thing that makes me curious is how dumb people is? They were only clicking the link blindly like they have no brain to think.
I don't even know how many stupid people who trapped in that phishing link but they must be dumbest people. They were blindly clicking the site and filling what already asked/connected to the scam site.
There are still many people who act like bots in crypto.

I don't think so. If it was getting hacked through simswap and he has been losing everything. This case is a common thing in the x. I saw that so many golden badge accounts were also getting hacked.
I dunno what's wrong with x but this platform is far from good on its security. It's often being hijacked b the hackers. The security owned by x is really weak.

There is no way to verify whether the account has actually been hacked or not. Even Twitter itself cannot prove that this happened if no suspicious change occurred in the account settings. Of course, this raises the hypothesis that Vitalik, the owner of the account, is claiming this to justify the hack, which it would be assumed that he himself was the one who carried it out. The stolen amount is not that large, and therefore I doubt that Vitalik is claiming that his account has been hacked, and at the same time I find it strange that a developer of his size is unable to properly secure his accounts.

This raises a deeper problem regarding trusting the accounts of these “influencers” as if we trust them themselves. People who lost their savings did not bother to check before connecting their wallets to the suspicious site.

Is that confirmed? What is the real story here? He shared a phishing link by mistake? Certainly we cannot accuse Vitalik of sharing a phishing link himself to scam his followers or can we accuse him of working with a hacker and let the hacker borrow his account. It would be very head shaking if he did.

In any case, everyone should be very skeptical on offers of free NFTs from influencers even if they are real. Much of them is a waste of gas fees.

Twitter has the worst security. I remember a year ago or two, many high profile twitter accounts (except Trumps) were hacked and promoted some crypto scam.

They really need to up their security because crypto is one thing but imagine is someone took over the President of the USA twitter account started to tweet something dangerous and put people in grave danger.

Vitalik has been clarifying what was happening with his account last week. His account got hacked due to the sim swap. I think that it has nothing to do with twitter's security but i do agree if twitter's security was weak.
There have been many similar cases happened since a few years ago. Glad vitalik has gotten back his account again.

Yeah, apparently Vitalik the genius behind the second largest blockchain in the crypto space will stoop so low to scam people of a few thousand dollars in your opinion.
Vitalik becomes so bored and broke he needs to create a phishing site for victims to fall into the trap of wallet drain, this does not sound like what the likes of Vitalik can do.
But what actually is kinda weird is how such a person's account got hacked! it just goes to show no one is safe from hackers, irrespective of how careful or secure you may claim to be.

That account has been restored after 20 minutes, and in the meantime, the damage has already been done. The Simswap attack is really alarming and makes me more skeptical about clicking any link, no matter who posted it. I am going to remove my phone number from my Twitter account and use Google Auth for now. Precaution is good when bad things are happening around you.

Looks like they gathered that much just some little time for controlling that account, imagine how much they could get when they have full control of the account in a single day. Sim Swap is scary, People would consider not trusting phone number authentication in that case and they should learn from this if they don't want to fall into the same trap again. How could this happen when we know he is one of the people we think to get hacked? We learn from this as well, Just because you are one of the owners of the top altcoins, it doesn't mean you are not gonna get hacked, Everyone is vulnerable except those who protect themselves and constantly update their security to avoid such problems in the future.

Signing a message can prove if the address is still controlled by Vitalik Buterin, this isn't about which social media he get hacked.

So it was a real hack and not really just trying out to scam people intendly. The issue here is that people do easily follow but well knowing about on how known or popular
Vitalik is, then i couldnt really blame them though but it is really actually that odd in the first place.

I thought it would be something like this and it wouldn't be his fault. Account hacked via third party.

First i wondered why someone like vitalik would not use it, but reading about it, it now seems that if your phone number is linked to account, 2FA isn't going help you. People can just social engineer their way to your account via gullible phone network staff.

While looking at this closely, i also noticed that google 2fa is not an option anymore for non-subscibers, which is just mad. There are many influencers that are not paying subsctiption, because of principle

And platform formerly known as twitter thought, that it might be ok for their followers to get scammed, if they don't pay for subscription.
Now it turns out it doesn't even matter if you pay subscription, if hacker uses social engineering to telecommunications company.
