Long the hold-out for grading anything crypto related, have seen quite a few NGC slabbed "crypto" coins pop up recently on Ebay Can anyone confirm if they are indeed grading "real" crypto (ie w/ holograms) or just crypto themed tokens like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/20446008924

Interesting find, more options for crypto grading would be great, even though ICG is doing a good job so far. I searched a little and didn't find any loaded NGC graded crypto coins. - Still too scary for most graders?

I think that ICG has the reputation of being the Crypto graders that collectors trust. Yes PCGS is the industry leader for fiat paper and coins, however, it's ICG... when other collectors see that, they know these are authentic & can re-grade if they choose for for a higher premium. Coins are sealed & preserved for a greatly reduced price compared to PCGS cost for grading. Same goes for the even earlier graded coins by Anacs. Personally I love the yellow slabs from Anacs, those slabs speak to those of us whom have been here the longest. Jungle green, green & white slabs...all tell the story.

In the coin grading world though PCGS and NGC are hands down considered the worlds premier grading companies. I am not a huge fan of NGC simply based on the fact that they refused to grade cryptocurrency coins for so long calling them "fake coins". However IMO the NGC slab is hands down the best slab out there. Also NGC makes a number of slabs giving you more potential for having different "off-sized" coins graded. I've told this story here before several times but Tread93 ( I think that's his user name off the top of my head) spoke with the head of NGC once and asked why they wouldn't grade crypto coins. He stated "we don't grade fake coins". Tread responded with.."but you grade the McDonalds Big Mac coins". NGC owners responded by saying "yeah, but those are really nice coins". lol

I haven't tried it but it does not appear that the NGC slabs are sealed like IGC - they look like they can be opened easily.
has anyone tried? I only have one NGC slab so not wanting to break it if it's not possible lol.

I was never a fan of NGC's slabs. They look like the cheap $1 holders you can buy on Ebay (see below), with their printed card inserted with details of coin and heated to secure closed. As Mopar mentioned, appear very easy to crack. https://www.ebay.com/itm/295449901522

It could be they are all in now, however, I believe all graders have been willing to grade these Chad coins, and Niue coins too, for a long time. I think they do not categorize these as physical bitcoins, but rather country issued coins. PCGS, which thankfully is all in for physical bitcoins now, graded these Chad and Niue coins before actually making a business decision to actually grade physical bitcoins.

Hey MJ, I have been made aware of this development and I am reaching out to my friend at NCG for clarification. It apprears that they have a plethora of coins ready to hit a heritage auction in october, among these are many cass coins. ChiBiTy made me aware of this, I can't wait to get some coins graded with them!

Yeah, looks like a ton of Casascius brass are going to be sold.... After working with ICG and PCGS for a bit now, I am just not a fan of PCGS and NGC where I have to have a membership just to submit a coin or note. AND Also have to ship them the coins.... Granted, NGC is pretty cheap per year for the lowest tier at $25.. and PCGS & NGC both give credits/vouchers for offsetting the cost of grading when you sign up for the more expensive tiers I would much rather give my business to ICG where I can drive over, walk-in and submit and pick-up orders in person... so much more piece of mind ie....Yesterday I dropped off a $350,000 order at ICG to people I already know and trust... not a chance in hell I would ever mail this to PCGS or NGC

Great minds think alike MooMoo , I'm not a big fan of the NGC slabs either. Professional Coin Graders (PCGS) are my choice. I still think that the Anacs & ICG slabs lend credence to our sector of collectables. I also like the fact that ICG staff will call me if they have any questions, or if they just want to clarify something for you. I recently sent in some Bitcoin Penny Spanish coins & wanted the COA's slabbed too (it was a request) Ryan called me and told me that they were too big. I told him to "trim" them down, if that would work. If you've seen the COA's they have a wax seal, and because of the thickness (mostly) and the wax degradation over time, they would not do it. So, I stuck them in a penny sleeve and a top loader, and called it a day. I don't think PCGS would call to discuss it,.....and it's THAT professionalism that makes me return. And the prices are better.....let's not forget that. It just depends on where you see the "value", and thank God this is still (kinda) the land of the free, and we have choices. Although I do enjoy a membership at PCGS as well.

Although I do enjoy a membership at PCGS as well. Some great points here. No, PCGS would indeed NOT call you to discuss that. I’m trying to help Kialara find a grader to slab his coins and got an assist from a very prominent collector here who introduced me to his PCGS guy who helps him. Said he’d look in to it for me months ago. Replied w a follow up of “any news” nothing. Emailed PCGS directly over a month ago, probably 2, no word back. Shocked to see NGC grading after they said our coins are fake coins lol, so that’s why they don’t (didn’t) grade them. So you’re right FattCatt, unless you’re a whale ..customer service seems to be shit, unlike ICG. ICG though is not well known or on the level of the fore mentioned two “big guys”, so that does in theory have less value than a PCGS/NGC slab (despite the fact that MJ is technically verifying PCGS crypto coins through ICG, which offers a TON of value). But only we here understand that value for the most part. Also, the big two have all sorts of slab shapes and sizes. That’s a big deal, obviously. I do wonder if NGC graded Otohs collection because well he’s Otoh. Same with Heritage Auctions, which is an even bigger deal. Just wonder if it’s a one off for Otoh or just the start. 250 Cas coin auction upcoming (don’t think this has been posted yet but I dunno, less active here these days). All NGC graded I do believe. https://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?No=0&N=3184+792+4294934363

They can accomodate coins of ALL shapes and sizes, so if you want to know the truth most Numimatists choose NGC over all other graders at least IMO. Not to say that all grading companies aren't good, I have just seen a large preference towards NGC over time.
