What do you think has changed about gambling itself? It's our situations and the times that keep changing but that doesn't really change the purpose of gambling, and it totally depends on one's own mindset regarding gambling and whether it will be fun for them or not. If you have always seen gambling as a way to earn money and profits, you can never get entertained by it because your mind and eyes will always just be looking for big wins.

But, if you have never thought of gambling as a way to earn money and you already have money and you just need some entertainment and just want to play some games and have some fun, then you will not find gambling not fun anymore because it is still the same thing if your mindset hasn't changed.

I think it's natural to be a little upset about gambling these days when people are busy trying to make money with the skyrocketing prices of things.

We can get upset when we lose consistently in gambling and that is natural feeling for most gambler but we don't have to focus our income to be from gambling and now want to meet up our daily expenses through gambling, it is not proper because it will lead us into pressure and get us to over stake and continue to play even when we are losing.  The economic is difficult to survive in most countries but we don't have to rely on gambling to meet up our needs, we will end up in debt because the pressure will cause lose of focus.

For me it's not just fun but more of an excitement. I don't need to win a lot of money, it's the waiting for the result and getting the euphoria of winning, being right that gets the thing done. Sometimes I bet against the fighters or teams that I like so that I feel happy regardless of the outcome. If my team wins, I'm happy for them, if they lose, I get the consolidation prize in the form of money.

I think it's really unhealthy if you aremt getting entertainment from it.  When you bet on a sporting game it adds something to the game that wouldn't be there if you didn't care about the outcome.  Once you stop getting entertained I think that is where the addiction comes in.  Some people feel the need to bet, that's when it's time to get help.

The words fun and entertainment have been erased from our dictionaries as gamblers depending on where you are in the social hierarchy. For the upper class, gambling is fun. When they gamble, they have a glass of wine on the table and a cigar in their mouth for those who smoke. They gamble with their other rich friends of the same heirarchy. They do it for fun, it is bonding time. I don't think they play at online casinos.

You're very spot on. This reminds me of a movie I once watched, a very wealthy man had placed a bet on his horse to outrun his friends horse. At the end of the race, the friend won and the wealthy man put down his horse. The friend became furious and asked him why he killed the horse, he just smiled and said I'll get another one, not minding the cost of getting another horse.

So gambling could be fun for the elites who can be unperturbed by the number of losses they suffer because they've very deep pockets, but for me and you it's strictly business. I believe that most people end up messing themselves up with gambling because to them everything is money, money, money, and this can stop your brain from becoming a responsible gambler, the sense of protecting yourself from gambling addiction can get lost if you are already not having fun with gambling anymore.

That is what I'm currently doing right now. I've been exposed to gambling since I was an addict and there are games that are used to be fun and now it's quite boring even I know how to play the game and I can possibly earn money in that game. I only play occasionally nowadays and most of my gambling sessions are for past time and fun purposes only, not for the sake of money anymore. I can control my spending even I only play sometimes because I have a allocated budget for it. If you are not having fun, take a break and slow down your gambling activities. Learn new hobbies or interest, there's a chance that you can completely stop from doing gambling.

While it's surprising to see someone like you shift from addiction to occasional fun, I must give credit where it's due. So, clap, clap. Yes, games lose their appeal, but remember: the house always wins. Yes. Imo the only reason people tend to remove entertainment from gambling si when they try to actively earn money from it. Earning money is yes, the goal of gambling, but it isn't the end imo, it's just the means. If you get it nice, you get to spend more money somewhere else, if not then it's fine as well. The idea is it's kind of dumb to even think about how you would consider money that wasn't yours in the first place to be money lost.

Additionally, if I had money issues, I wouldn't be gambling in the first place. Gambling, just like most other stuff that can entertain you, needs money to be able to do its job properly. If you don't have one, then just don't do it. Easier said than done though I suppose.

The derivation of entertainment or fun in whatever word you may call it  from gambling is akin to the elite class of gamblers. The class a gambler founds himself in society is a determinant of what hey look forward to  get from gambling.

The poor will argue that fun in gambling will not put food on his table, and there's wisdom in that, because in his scale of preference entertainment is not even in the least, counting the responsibility he bears.

In my opinion there is a fundamental difference between the two. Hanging out and enjoying something around us with $50 has satisfaction when using it. Therefore, we will easily forget it, because we got something as a return.
Someone who uses $50 will find it very difficult to forget because they don't just think "this is for entertainment to forget the problems in life". But, when he saw that other people were able to win, he felt differently and started to think to try again, until finally he became addicted. In my case I do because I only gamble occasionally, with money I can afford to lose and I don't put false hopes on it (like expecting my life to change because of jackpots).

The problem is that many of the stories we see on the forum do start from having false hopes in gambling, and end up worse than they started. The preoccupation with making money, instead of entertainment, leads them to lose money, sometimes a lot of money and sometimes even borrowed one. There is nothing fun or entertaining about it, it becomes a drama.
