Who said that merit system is not working? I think the merit system is working in the best way possible. The admin implemented merit system to reduce spam on the forum and after it the number of spam posters have decreased significantly. The spam posts will always be present and they are present on every online forum of the world but in this forum merit system decreased the number of users who mostly made spam posts to increase their activity.

Can you please share proof of your claims? Where have you seen spam or bad quality posts on the forum and did those spammers earned any merits at all?  If you really understand what a spam post is then you'll surely share some examples of those posts, but I'm quite sure that you won't be able to share any posts or members who earned good number of merits doing any kind of spam postings. I think you don't like the merit system because it made ranking harder for you and all those members who have less knowledge about Bitcoin and can't contribute good stuff to the forum, but those who have knowledge about Bitcoin and can contribute something good to the forum will always have more than enough merit to rank up.

In fact, I have seen some members who ranked up pretty fast and have more than enough merits for their next rank. Those members are contributing good posts to the forum and that's why they are getting those merits. If you can do the same then trust me the members will merit you for your contribution. You have got more than 15 merits for a single post that someone considered helpful and that proves the merits are always there for good and helpful posts.

Spammers and trash posters are present in all forums, also here - merit system can not help, if the member want to spam & trash, he/she will do it.

But they have no incentive to spam which reduces the number of spammers we have here and also, wait for it... reduces the amount of spam and trash post.
The merit system means spammers are not rewarded with higher ranks for the number of posts they make here without any consideration to if they offer any value at all.

The forum has got its own sense of humor and you don’t need no reward for humor, you having to laugh when you see some expressions is the reward, the laughter. What more reward for humor could be better than that.
I’ve seen usages throw constructive jabs at themselves on the forum and it’s cool to vibe that way with some, you could try it with forum familiars.

If you do think you need some games to be entertained, there are gambling sites that would even reward you in coins for games played. I obviously promote one with my signature space. Try it and you’ll be smiling when you win.

Meanwhile, it’s almost inevitable that spammers would spam but, they eventually get what they deserve. There are rules here and the rule on spammers has a gradual approach in transition to a permanent ban. If you value your account less and when your hit by the temporal band you refuse to pay heed, you would eventually see yourself out.

The merit system has made me quite happy since it was introduced in 2018. I don't need free spins to win merit or any games for the same purpose. That's meaning I don't agree with the idea considering the potential for abuse seems too high.

You may be able to join some of the annual contests held by forum users or admin to get more merit. Also you can take advantage of some of the merit thread if you're having trouble getting them, especially if you want helpful merit source to review your posts.

The forum merits is one of the biggest admin mistakes, they are 100% useless, ( for example, forum member with IT higher education will almost always be step higher than any other member with just home made IT knowledge, so how can home educated forum member can give merits in IT field to member with university education ).

Firstly, the forum merits system is not a mistake or should I say is never a mistake and can never be. Thymos and co knew what they are doing, they had put in all methods of thinking before implementing the rules for merits and it has been working. If it has not been working or useless as you said, you wouldn't have gotten any merit except you where merited for the wrong reason that's the only way you can not notice that the merits system isn't useless.
Secondly, in the aspect of technical know how, it doesn't matter the educational qualifications of any member or how any individual got their knowledge in this forum it all depends on how good you are and how you can contribute to conversations and make a difference that is the subject matter of quality posting and the merit. Whether you are highly educated or not you can make good contribution it doesn't matter the IT knowledge you have. I guess am the youngest in this forum but does that mean I can not do well here? No. I'm even doing better than I thought so it depends on individuals decision whether to do well or not.

How were you even able to come up with such an idea in the first place? I guess too much gambling has been affecting you lately.

This post is so funny and i just can’t stop laughing… OP thought thinking out of the box will fetch him some merit. He probably misunderstood the meaning of think out of the box and decided to come up with such silly idea because how can you say Merit is useless. I think he probably can’t keep up with the post standard of the forum and is looking way to earn easy merit that’s why he thought of an idea that is based on luck to move up the ranks.

The forum is okay with the merit system and all this idea about virtual roulette will just make everyone lazy, why bother learning about things when you can easily move up the rank simply by playing a dumb game. We have seen some accounts of people in the forum that have been stagnant on a particular rank for a long time and when you check you will find out that they may low quality posts.

OP just make high quality posts and people will appreciate your work and will merit you if worthy enough and dismiss this idea of yours from your mind it’s ridiculous.

Is this for the lack of reasonable and good discussion to post, it's like taking away what the forum and its members value, you have to earn and work for your merits, it's like handing down memberships and merits to spammers.
Just imagine one member ranks up because of a giveaway do you think he deserves respect compared to those who worked for it, I have seen some ridiculous ideas but this is the worst if not one.

@OP unfortunately you're not the administrator in this forum, so you can't implementing your idea to giveaway merit. Though if you're a merit source, it's possible you can do it, but I believe sooner the administrator will remove you as a merit source due to misusing merit.

Spam/trash is subjective too, for me this Economics board thread with many replies Has everyone become too pesimistic about the economy? for forum with international members is spam/trash, but at the same time other forum members may be like it.

OP, you sound funny on your suggestion. What do you take the forum for, a casino or a place to come and have fun ? The forum is a place to learn and exploit from base on what you have up in your brain and how fast you learn and understand discussions on bitcoin and other angle of bitcoin. Read more and improve yourself so that you can have those merits very easy and also rank up without too much worries. It is lazy people that loves free things or believes in luck. You can't reap from what you didn't sow, how do you expect a Member to automatically jump to a full member rank without acquiring the number or merits and activities for that rank. The forum merits system and rank is already programme and I believe is the best way to encourage people to learn more and improve themselves in the forum. Spammers will have no place here or progress until you have accepted to learn and grow.

If you want fun buddy, you can go to social media sites or scroll through YouTube. This forum is mainly for education and spreading knowledge. To be more specific, crypto-based everything. What you suggested is completely hilarious and useless. You earn merits and rank up totally based on your contribution to this community. Is reading and learning not fun enough for you? Indirectly, you are suggesting that the forum should be transform from being a bitcoin discussion Forum to merit spin casino right? Perhaps the name Bitcointalk should be change to merithunt. It baffle me how people are not longer worried about everything taking gambling dimension. How will you feel if this your idea is implemented and no one care to write in the forum again but rather focus on spin and hope to win merit or higher membership rank? You will find the forum less attractive and eventually leave for somewhere else where there is serious discussion right?

The only thing I can see from this thread is someone who is frustrated and finding it difficult to get merit and rank up. The truth is that majority of us here have been in your shoes before and we also felt exactly like this and wish there's another alternative of getting merit. It's not possible, you need to put your effort and work for it. Don't hope to gamble and see yourself in the legendary rank.

A piece of advice for you... Accusing a legendary rank member of writing shit or spam at this your level is not ideal. The post you reference in your thread has more replies from both legendary and lower rank members of up to 5+ pages. It means that the thread is hot and very good for discussion. Stay away from unnecessary criticism and enjoy your time in the forum.
