Trezor just released teaser post on twitter saying they are preparing a big reveal coming on October 12, and I am guessing this is their new model with their own secure element!

They even created countdown page on their website for new products, with this question: Ready for hassle-free crypto security?
https://content.trezor.io/new-products

We can see glimpses of new device, and all we can see is black shiny color and totally new design.
I think that ledger and other hardware wallet manufacturers are probably sweating right now  Cheesy

Can someone guess the name for new Trezor device?

-snip-

A new model with their own secure element? Is that actually something they talked about before?

I'm really wondering what are the important features they are missing, that would require them to release new hardware for them to implement. Any thoughts? aside from maybe support for more non-EVM crypto?

I'm seeing two new devices... Is it just me or does the other device look like a black version of Cryptosteel Capsule?
- It's the perfect combo.

Can someone guess the name for new Trezor device?
It's probably the Trezor Model R that I mentioned in "this" post Smiley

I hope they call it the T800.  If so, I'll be back.

A new model with their own secure element? Is that actually something they talked about before?

I seem to recall this being a sticky subject in the past, and I assume it's something they've wanted to implement to keep up with the competition (i.e. Passport and ColdCard,) but I don't recall any Trezor communication stating they're working on it.

I'm really wondering what are the important features they are missing, that would require them to release new hardware for them to implement.

Market share, lol?  Like any business, they need to innovate or die.  To venture a guess; I bet it's going to have a larger touchscreen than the T2, like a small smartphone form factor.  A secure element that resolves Trezor's known vulnerability would be a significant upgrade all on it's own, IMO.

Is ledger still alive?

with this question: Ready for hassle-free crypto security?
For amateurs, it's a good pitch.
Hassle-free crypto security for me is to have a multi-sig wallet having at least two cosigner key. Save the keys in two different physical location.

Subscription for seed recovery LOL

Lol, I think they know better.  I've always been under the impression that Trezor management team are laser eyed maxies themselves, and tend to steer more towards keeping their base happy.  I imagine they witnessed how Ledger's attempt at "shared self-custody" blew up in their faces, I don't see any other hardware wallet making such a bonehead mistake.  Except Jack Dorsey, he's boneheaded enough to repeat such a retarded mistake, I guess.

For amateurs, it's a good pitch.

Any feature that makes use of a secure hardware wallet easier would help with mass-adoption, so hopefully they've figured out a way to make even more user friendly without sacrificing security and self-custody.

I'm still a bit salty about Trezor imbedding Wasabi into Trezor Suite, so I'm not sure if I want to spend any more of my money with them.  I'll decide when they release the new product and scrutinize it's features.

Seems like a lipstick or perfume bottle. But let's just not assume that.  Cheesy Cheesy New designs are just another way of marketing just like Apple company is doing with iPhone. hehe. I hope you got my point. They are simply changing the layout of the camera or pinholes etc. Well, the Design looks great (of Trezor's wallet) but I am not a user so why I am getting excited? hehe.

In my thought, they will name it in the X series maybe. What other name they might come up with?

My thought is they will go for airgapped transactions. Personally I have a trezor model one and even though I think it's safe, I don't like the fact that I have to plug in a usb cable. Also, it may be bitcoin only (not as a separate option which is also available for models One and T)

The name is gonna be Trezor Z

Yes, they have been working on that in last few years and I was talking about it for a while in forum.

I'm really wondering what are the important features they are missing, that would require them to release new hardware for them to implement. Any thoughts? aside from maybe support for more non-EVM crypto?
Secure Element made by Trezor with open source firmware.
I don't really care about other shitcoin support.

I'm seeing two new devices... Is it just me or does the other device look like a black version of Cryptosteel Capsule?
I don't know about that, only thing I know that device is black.  Wink
Trezor is probably going to release a bit more information about this devices in next few days.

I hope they call it the T800.  If so, I'll be back.
Sounds cool, but then it  needs T1000 bad cop enemy  Cool

Bitcoin Takeover podcast, Matej Zak and Vlad Costea (August 8, 2023):

Quote
But speaking of Trezor, there are some exclusive news to be discovered in this interview: first of all, Trezor is planning to launch two new hardware wallets in 2023 and 2024. The first one is an affordable unit which improves on the Trezor One design and retains the physical buttons – the code name for it is Trezor Model R, and according to the ongoing GitHub commits it features a 3-button layout, a USB-C connector, and a SLIP39 (Shamir Secret Sharing) integration. If it costs around $70, the Trezor Model R is bound to be the most affordable Shamir-powered hardware wallet on the market. It’s bound to launch sometime during the fall of 2023.

The second hardware wallet that Trezor will add to their line is a more high-end device. Not too much information is known about it, but it’s expected to be more feature-packed than the Trezor Model T and get sold at a similar or even lower price point. The expected launch date is sometime in 2024, but the bad news is that it won’t come with the Tropic Square open source chip.

According to Matej Zak, Tropic Square‘s TASSIC (Transparent Authenticated Secure Storage Integrated Circuit) chip is still in testing phase and will enter production sometime in 2024. Therefore, it can’t become available sooner than the year 2025. The good news is, however, that Trezor will be the first company to benefit from this unique security chip. So the Czech-made hardware wallets will finally get the kind of uncompromising physical security that they have been seeking.

The name new Trezor device doesn't matter much, as long as this hardware wallet provides a high level of protection and security. By the way, what revolutionary new will this new secret element offer, what competitors don't have?

Also, I would reformulate the phrase a little differently: "Can someone guess the name price for new Trezor device?"

Since this will be something new from Trezor, the price will surely be higher than their previous flagship model (model T). $250-300?

Hey man, check the video below, posted by JL0. They say that the price will be close to Model One.

Thank you JL0!
It was good interview and I listened important parts, and I am little disappointed to say that this new hardware wallet won't have trezor's new secure element, that won't happen until 2025 or 2026  Tongue
Another information I heard from Matej is that new device will have physical buttons, some new options, and price will be between €69 and €219, probably less than €100.
I was a bit overly optimistic when I first heard the news.

Interview posted above explains everything.
Price will be less than $250 for sure.

Another information I heard from Matej is that new device will have physical buttons,

Therefore, purchasing it would be futile. Repackaging the old perfumes in a new bottle yields no change in scent.

I require a companion for my Passport 2 HW to integrate it into my multisig wallet. I held a lingering hope for a new Trezor model featuring a cutting-edge SE devoid of the shortcomings typically associated with Microchips products. Unfortunately, these hopes are unlikely to materialize this year.

Probably will wait for new ColdCard Q1 which should appear next year.

Seems like Gen-Z or strawberry generation when hearing that name. In my guess, they just changed the body design into metal and not in its entirety changed the software. The feature you mentioned (air-gapped transactions and bitcoin-only firmware) is already had on all trezor (model one and T)

When I look image vaguely, that looks vape to me.

So, it's live[1]. Here's what they released:

- Brand new wallet (Trezor Safe wallet 3) with secure element + more supported cryptocurrencies, as well as OLED screen: https://trezor.io/trezor-safe-3
- Metal backup for your seedphrase
- And a limited edition bitcoin-only wallet.

If you can't access the link above, it's due to high traffic.

- And a limited edition bitcoin-only wallet.

So I was partially right. But why a limited edition? I think a bitcoin-only wallet would grant them higher revenue.

Also, it may be bitcoin only (not as a separate option which is also available for models One and T)

Trezor presented the brand new hardware wallet 'Trezor Safe 3' yesterday at the start of the Bitcoin amsterdam conference. the new hw-wallet now has a secure element for the first time, and is thus catching up with competing products such as the BitBox02 or the products from Ledger. particularly noteworthy is the strict focus on open source.
a Bitcoin-only version of the new hardware wallet will also be available. initially, this will be available as a limited edition alongside the regular version, with a chic orange back and the imprint "∞/21M". according to the manufacturer, the price of the safe 3 will be €79.
we'll have to wait and see how the new Trezor Safe 3 performs on the market.

particularly noteworthy is the strict focus on open source.
Note that the secure element is not open source. It's just a regular secure element. Pretty funny coming from the company that spent the best part of the last 10 years saying how closed source secure elements are a security risk and secure elements are unnecessary, while sweeping under the rug their unfixable seed extraction vulnerability.

It also isn't airgapped and still needs connected to the computer with a USB cable, and it also seems like you still have to enter any passphrase on the computer and not on the device itself, which remains a large security risk.

So all in all, this just looks like a rebranded Trezor One. Pretty disappointing to be honest, and still far behind some other hardware wallets on the market.
