How many people use Tor to access TalkImg?

Some users have complained about some instability when using TalkImg, because they use Tor.
The site works correctly in any browser, just due to the server's protections against hacks, those who use Tor sometimes have some difficulties accessing the site.

The only way I can resolve this issue will be to upgrade the server again, which would allow me to make other types of configurations. But, that would mean almost tripling your monthly server costs. This type of upgrade is only expected to occur within 3-5 years, when the project is actually on a much larger scale.

I think that so far, the service has fulfilled its purpose, despite this inconvenience for some users. Therefore, I would like to understand how many users use Tor, so I can make a decision on the matter.

I therefore appeal for your consideration on this topic, and whether it is really relevant at this time to make this upgrade or follow the plan in order to ensure longevity.

I wish to be using Tor for this forum and any other thing that is related to it, but this forum itself is frustrating while using Tor while having problem with cloud flare or captcha or what it is called.

I have been using your site to upload images but truthfully I have not been using Tor for it.

I do not think using VPN is bad. But some people may want to be more private and that is why Tor will be good.

I have tried out using Tor just a few times, but it was really not convenient for me as I have to login to my account each time I want to access the forum as a member, which I don't see what I'm actually protecting by using Tor to access the forum.
 
As for those who are using Tor to access the forum, they can still use other browsers if they want to make use of TalkIm. That's to make things easier for them. I don't think just a few seconds that will be spent uploading images there will cost them much harm, as they are so concerned about their privacy.
 
My suggestion is that, for now, considering the cost and time it will cost you to do this upgrade and knowing that the site is not making you any money and you are using your personal funds to pay for the expenses and a few donations you get from fee forum members and projects on the forum, I will suggest you let it be the way it is for now, as it is still helpful and useful to most of us right now. It should be a major concern if up to 30–40% of its users are complaining.

If you don't want your forum activity to be connected to your real life identity then using the image host dedicated to this very forum without TOR would make it very easy for any prying eyes to locate you and completely unmask you. So I don't think OP is doing anything unreasonable. Honestly, in many countries even pedestrian stuff like gambling or political speech can lead to jail. So it's not necessarily that he's doing something bad.

I never used Tor, nor needed to access image hosting site. I used Talkimg for some time and used default chrome browser and it's working very fast without facing any issue.

Tor is good option who want to be completely safe but as you mentioned that it will take 3-5 years and also costly then I think so far I am satisfied without Tor.

Any other competitive image hosting site working well in the tor browser?

I really think that your free service is already well enough for Bitcointalk members. I mean as a free service, it is good enough to use.

You can not satisfy all members and I know your image uploading service is created as an alternative for Imgur.com. That website disallowed uploading images from Tor  along time ago but people still used it until their latest serious change against proxy from Bitcointalk months ago.

I think if I am serious about my privacy, avoid or reduce uploading images from third party websites is my best choice.

For your next upgrade to serve Tor using demand, because of high cost, I believe you can only deploy it if you receive more donation from community. It is not about benefit for your service operation but I don't think it makes sense to host it with more expensive cost just to satisfy minority with Tor-using demand.

To upload an image, I've never used Tor; instead, I simply turn on my VPN on websites I don't trust. There's no need to increase your budget threefold when VPNs are an option. I doubt anyone has ever complained about Imgur cleanet.

Not everyone trusts their IP addresses with a third-party website like this. Op claimed he doesn't save logs, but how can we be sure if the project is closed-source? It is better to be safe than sorry.

I would say for uploading images the chrome browser is fine no need to update to other servers that will take another few years.For safety reasons we choose Tor but I am fine with uploading images on other browser like Firefox as well and do it that way only.

Could you do this survey on the website? I feel that will be more effective to get users that frequently use the website and give you a faster response.
You can create a pop up which asks visitors if they are accessing it through Tor or not.

I will not advice on this so early in the project. Anyone using Tor for the forum already knows how inconvenient it can be and will understand why same happens on talkimg. Tripling the service cost so early can be to demanding causing the budget to be higher tham donations available.

The implementation would not last 3 years! The timeline for the project only foresees this upgrade in 3 to 5 years.

Regarding other image hosting services, which deal well with Tor, I don't know how to answer. What I know is that it will be difficult for this type of service to operate at the same time, as a single website, on clearnet and onion.

By chance, it wasn't exactly because of Imgur.com that I created the project. But the starting moment ended up being mayor. 

I am grateful for the support I have received, and this only gives me the strength to continue and continue to seek to improve the service in order to please all users. Although this is not always easy.

There was a failure, but it wasn't bad because after I reloaded the browser, the site returned to running normally.
I want to say that this talkimg hosting is an amazing project even though there are other image hosting sites, but I am comfortable using talkimg.com

Given my experience with cheaper servers, I doubt trippling server costs is necessary. Ninjastic.space for instance works fine on Tor, and I think it still runs on this package. My guess is TalkImg is much less demanding in resources, since it doesn't have to search through huge databases.

Yeah, I agree that this type of moderation needs to be modified for the sake of privacy, but it wouldn't matter if you made improvements to the Tor site since individuals that value privacy highly won't use the cleanet.

Same here. I regularly use Tor to upload images without any major problems. I believe the TalkImg service works well  as it is.

I don’t think should increase server maintenance costs for the sake of one and a half John. If they want, they can access TalkImg without Tor, that’s right.

Already now the advantage in voting is 25% / 75% of those using and not using Tor to access the  TalkImg. It seems that everything is obvious here and it is unlikely that the results will change much.

I can say that I have a similar experience, whether it's Tor or VPN, it all depends on what our own internet traffic is redirected through, but it's nothing that can't be solved by changing the circuit, as you say.

There is no doubt that with Tor we can experience problems with slow page loading or the occasional request to solve a captcha, but I think that many people do not understand how Tor works and that they have to adapt if they want such a dose of privacy.

I don't think the question here is that the OP is encouraging someone to do anything, but in my opinion the point is that if you already use Tor as your main browser, then you will use TalkImg with that browser - and if you have problems using it, that means you would have to use another browser at the same time.

If I'm not wrong in my self-assessment, my level of knowledge about having to refresh a website if you want to use it is no longer at that level because I often advise my younger brother about that as the most basic lesson I taught him. beginner status in the internet field.

For contractual reasons I still cannot change hosting companies. Maybe in a few months I will be able to evaluate this.

This service seems acceptable, even so, the current cost, compared to what this company offers, will be at least double (depending on the option chosen). On the other hand, Contabo does not have great technical support to help me with the migration. It's not problematic, but it would involve more caution.

It's true that I don't need processing power. But, I need recording speed, space and bandwidth. And unfortunately, the options that best have these characteristics are those with greater processing capabilities and in turn become more expensive.
