Your friend is not the first to do that, and he will definitely not be the last to also do that. I have seen a lot of cases where people make plans and budgets for money that they have not even seen or that have not gotten to their hands. What gives them that mind is what I can't truly tell because even if I win a game today in any casino, if the money is not yet in my wallet or bank account where I have full control over it, I don't make plans for it because we have seen so many cases of even winning bets that still turn out to be void at the end or the casino refuses to pay off.

Dont make yourself that already anticipating or making out that conclusive approach until the match is over. I could really be able to tell about the feeling about winning a particular parlay on which your last match is really that giving off that kind of thrill and excitement at the same time specially if its a close match on which you cant really be able to determine on whose gonna win. In my early days in gambling, I use to have this kind of feeling, where after placing my bet, my mind will always be on the game, I will be refreshing my bet app and keeping in touch with the game so to see if there are losses, that stuff use to destroy my mental health, because I will be so focused on it. But with time, I started growing stronger, hence I will place a bet and look at it when the entire game is over, even after my loss, It won't get to me too much, because it's a normal thing now.

How will you gamble with $1 and expect to win $2500? When a bet like this is placed, you shouldn’t even have hope that you are going to win because the early matches played  were won, which does not mean you will be luck to win the remaining matches. Just zero your mind that you are going to win till all the matches are being played and you see that all your predictions are correct. It makes me curious how strong is the influence of our minds to control our physical well being. Just think about it, someone is feeling perfectly well, both mentally and physically and then something like this happens and cause them to be "sick" for days.

When you say he got sick you mean he got depressed and could not get up his bed or he actually showed some unexplainable symptoms, like fever, vomiting...?. Whatever was the case, I hope you friend is doing better now and take this passing blow to his mental health as a lesson for the next time he decides to count on money he does not have yet.

You do not count your chickens before they’re hatched. You definitely do not start to make plans for money that isn’t yet in your custody. The disappointment people get from this can be overwhelming and very frustrating. People have been ruined and wrecked after making plans for money that would be hopefully theirs.

I think people who gets really hurt by their losses when gambling are those who due to being so unrealistically hopeful and optimistic, having positive thoughts only about the funds to be won and already how best to go about using such funds all before they’re actually won.

I thought he was sick because maybe it was his last money and apparently he spent it all so that he was mentally disturbed and it had an impact on his physical health. I have never experienced anything like that, usually I get angry easily and get annoyed easily if I lose a lot of money when gambling.

Gambling is a game that uses money, no matter how strong our mentality is, if we spend all our money on gambling it will definitely disturb our mentality and can have more fatal consequences. I guess your friend has already made some plans for the prize that he's 'supposed' to receive, that's why his reaction went like that. He put all of his hope with that bet, therefore money is the main concern why he felt bad with the negative outcome. Gambling no doubt is profitable but will never provide a consistent outcome or winnings. Some are indeed making a living in this industry but always consider those who are losing huge amount of money in gambling. Best thing to do is to set the right mindset; knowing when to stop and learning to never bet all in no matter how confident you are with your bet. It is a must to control emotion. A person who can't control emotion doesn't deserve to be a gambler.
Controlling emotion isn't the only cause/reason for a person to be disciplined. If you want to be disciplined, you need to stick on your rules. Commitment is the key to discipline.

In my opinion, he got sick because he bet with too much money but it end up with a loss. He may try to increase his bet since he wins huge money previously. He isn't aware that there is no guarantee to win constantly. There should be time for losses, it can't be avoided. A gambler should understand that he will never have an ability to maintain the wins.

There is no guarantee in gambling that you have won the games, until it is over and your predictions were correct. How will one plan on how to spend money that he hasn't won. Don't play gamble because of profit but for fun.

No problem to gamble for profit but make sure to gamble with a realistic amount of money. Don't expect too much to win a big money, just try luck to earn some money. If we are too obsessed to win bigger money, it will end up with the same story as OP explained on the thread.

It's almost the same thing with a parlay because the stakes go up after every win and in some sportsbooks, you'll sometimes see the amount as there could've been an option to cash out the bet.

In gambling, you can't entirely remove the idea of winning money, but it can be suppressed to a level where you start to care less about it. It's okay to ride a bet until the end as long as it's an insignificant amount but your friend got carried away and only realized the actual amount after he lost the last game.
