As we approach the festive season...prices of things have really gone up...from food items... clothing..even household items and there is less flow of cash
What could be the actual cause? ...will the average Nigerian survive it? Well we only hope for a better tomorrow
Currently, the price of dollar is been sold at the rate of #1200 per $1, and as such, so is the price of goods and commodities rising every day in their numbers in the market, of which the poor massive have no option but face the high price of it, hence, suffering when they can't afford a square meal due to the fact that they have limited resources. So in regards to the question you just asked above about why do the price of goods always goes high when it's about approaching festive period e.g Christmas, of which for me, my sincere answer will be that the price of these goods are raise high simply just to maximise profit, knowing fully well it's a celebration period,  and no other reason.

We complain things are hard yet we ourselves make things difficult for us. Many Nigerian traders and businessmen are hoarding goods they bought at extremely cheap prices a few months back and are waiting till we get to November or even December to sell them at exorbitant prices because they know demand will be high during the festive period. What I like about it is, the high profits they are making,  they will still spend them on other expensive commodities and services.

The bottom line is that so far Nigeria remains a consumer rather than a producer things keep getting worse because of our dependency on dollars to import goods

You are right but governments are the major cause or contributor to what we are experiencing today, what are they elected there for?  Is it not to rule and to guide the people? There are agencies of government that are in place or meant to checkmate the activities of these traders, like traders who are intentionally taking advantage of this current economic situation by increasing price more than what it is supposed to be, forgetting that there is no escape route for any Nigerian doing this, so far you work, feed and stay in Nigeria,  there are other ways you too would spend that money you think you are making from hiking of prices 2-3X and above.

We Nigerians over the years have developed tough skin to all these hardships. Everyone will survive it whether rich, average, or poor. It's not something new to us anymore. I will only advise that we avoid wasteful spending. We still have our Normal lives to live after festivity. Country hard sha.
Yes, but this situation is just like you are already into wasteful spending because the expense is on a steady increase and the income is no longer matching the weight of our expenditure at the end of the day,  weeks, and months,  take you, for instance, something you used to buy let's say #500 and with a salary of #50k per month and now due to the skyrocketing prices,  you now have to buy the same product at #1500, 2x in price while your salary remains #50k,  and this price increase is also experienced with other products you purchase, so this is what I think is the major case here.

High price of fuel, lack of good government, corruption, no love and unity, and greed is what is killing the country. Everyone wants to get advantage of his neighbor to make money. Why is it that this only happens when Christian are celebrating their own festivals, during the Muslim salah period, the cost of commodity remains the same and the price of cloths is still the same. The cost of petrol remains the same, and we don't even know that Muslims are celebrating.

Why is it that the Christian celebrations and festive periods are different, the cost of food, cloths, fuel and the rest spike up and makes the festive period somehow difficult for the poor. I think that there is a problem in this country, ot is it that the Christian are the ones that are causing the fueling the high price of commodities in the country or what.

In the developed country, government makes the prices of commodities, especially food clothing and place of have fun very cheap, they even go as far as giving discount in whatever you buy during chrismas period so that everybody will be able to afford it and enjoy this period with less expenses, but in other country Nigeria is the other way round.

As we approach the festive season...prices of things have gone up...from food items... clothing..even household items and there is less flow of cash
What could be the actual cause? ...will the average Nigerian survive it? Well we only hope for a better tomorrow

A lot of things are currently affecting the price of commodities but the increase in the dollar and the approach of the festive season, especially clothes and shoes, and I noticed that the price of anything that goes up hardly comes down in this country and marketers are always taking advantage of every single moment, they always have stock in the shops so they always get very greedy to add a lot of money to their stock, and most of this commodities don't have any serious competitors and the ones available are taking advantage of people just to make more money.

If the average Nigerian can’t survive it, we wouldn’t all have been alive to witness another year like this. This has been happening for a long time now and will continue for years to come. I am yet to know what causes the price of foodstuffs and household items to increase. At the end of every season, I thought things should always come do   since new items will be arriving the following year but in Naija the reverse is the case. What pains me more now will be the scarcity of fuel that will come in 1 and half months to come from now. It has always been like that, I pray there’s a difference this year which at the same time I feel they won’t be any.
Nigerians are surviving and trying their best to survive every single moment and every situation that is coming but the problem with Nigerians is that we are too tolerant verydark man said something about shutting down the country nobody should go to work and there should be a peaceful protest until our demands are met but we won't do what is right to do in a particular time the way people stood for mohbad why can we do the same for our selves, and for the increase of foodstuff it will continue to increase everything that increases in this country in this country no they come down.

Our mentality and reasoning is what have been putting us in problems for long, how can people just begin to increase price of goods and services just within a particular period of time called festive period as I don't understand the difference between these so called festive seasons and the rest of the other seasons.

Everything skyrockets during this period simply because the demand of goods and services are on high level, people start making things complex for the common men in the society during this period as these price increments have no effect on the rich and wealthy people are not even bothered because they can afford whatever they want.

Until we stop this incessant mentality of increasing prices of goods and commodities during this festive seasons knowing too well that the effects will go straight to the less privileged in our society, the better for us all.

Even the things that the price is not suppose to be high in the market people are using the dollar price as an advantage to make money. Things that are suppose to be expensive are things that are not made here in Nigeria but the things we have here in Nigeria keeps increasing because of dollar price which is not sppose to be so. The way price everything is getting expensive is getting at of hand their is nothing the government is doing to put a stop of it, it is just getting too bad everyday.  Nigerians will find a way to survive the hardship  because their is no any other option than to survive.

Inflation due to the devaluation of the Naira na the main reason and the second reason na because say na festive period as you dey talk. Marketers need money to use enjoy Christmas and dem know say people dey willing to spend this period as na when money dey flow for the country be dis. Bosses and businesses go give out Christmas bonus so dem wey no dey get dat bonus na to increase their price so dem fit afford things too like others. This one na number occurrence every year and e dey happen for every country so it isn't only a Nigerian thing. Best way to prepare for his times na to buy times on time when dey never cost. You can stuck them up so in the festive period you already have things that'll hold you during this expensive days.

We complain things are hard yet we ourselves make things difficult for us. Many Nigerian traders and businessmen are hoarding goods they bought at extremely cheap prices few months back and are waiting till we get to November or even December to sell them at exorbitant prices because they know demand will be high during the festive period. What I like about it is, the high profits they are making,  they will still spend them on other expensive commodities and services.

That's just it, people dey forget say when you increase your price for your business, it automatically increase the other businesses dat depends on your business as everyone try to get profits so they can use other services too without going broke. If transportation increase, market woman go increase and others wey buy the foodstuffs go also increase. The hoarding of goods is a known practice as e dey since so na just wetin dey and we can't stop it because na people businesses strategy but wetin the government go fit do na to make things better for the country and even though goods and services increase this festive period e no go too cost for us not to be able to afford them with peace of mind. Na the hardship for the country dey cause us to para if not this things na normal something wey dey happen everywhere.

But make you try understand say some wise ones de also cash out from this period because de go done stuck stuff plenty for there shops and and now when price don go up dem go use am cash out, Na so wealth de take come. Another thing also you need know na say as price of things de increase for one sector, e de also increase for every other sectors apart from the salary earners when de receive fixed pay every month. Are you still doubting? As if we are not in the same Nigeria again, of course we are going to survive it, we have been facing this for so long, nothing dey new to me for this country again, is just that this year really dey different, because now that December is coming i believe food items will still cost than this, immediately we enter next month, all items will add price, it will even hard for some people to buy like Ram for Christmas, because we are not saying the same thing as last year, This year shege have totally passed the one we have been facing for so long, the actual thing i see that caused all this, do not pass fuel prices that increase, since Tinubu promise to removed fuel subsidy, we started facing 2x of Buhari regime, now that december is approaching another problem. We keep on saying that, we hope for better tomorrow, the country keeps getting worse every day.

That what people keep on complaining about, that dollar price have increased, i believe even though price of dollar decrease today, the price of food items will hardly to go down. It will very hard to see where Nigeria goods prices raise and later come down.

We're fast approaching Chrismas and there's a whole lot to handle in the country. The new government in power, things just hard, everywhere choke and I doubt if this government go ever better. Make we start from fuel price, the way fuel de increase, e come be like crypto wey de pump and e de dump when the time don reach. Weytin everybody de after na their own personal gain for the present condition of the country. I reached marker last week, things don cost oh, everything is expensive and person need money so that person fit settle bills and provide for the necessary needs in the house.

As we approach the festive season...prices of things have really gone up...from food items... clothing..even household items and there is less flow of cash
What could be the actual cause? ...will the average Nigerian survive it? Well we only hope for a better tomorrow
Well actually is always expected that whenever the Xmas period is close the price of commodities, household things, and almost every other things tends to increases because people are using the medium to get all the things they would need for the Xmas with the reason that the prices may increase more than the way it is now and however making the demand of goods and services very high which will result to increase in price.

Because in times of business we have law of deman and supply, so every spike in price during Xmas period is as a result of higher demand of commodities, so is a normal thing in business perspective.

This is not affected only in Nigeria most African countries  it's be cause by the dollar increase and as for survival we are going to pass through it and not all Nigerians will be affected with this. Those earning in dollars we not pass through the hard times this normally happens during Xmas period.

Well it’s not the first time we are experiencing increment of commodity at festive times, and yet people still survive and celebrate the holidays the best way they can. You made a solid point there when you say price of goods goes up when there is higher in demand of the product in the market. This is just the concept of economics. We may see the price of goods going up x4 of it usual price now that our naira is noting to write home about. Even in this rough time we Nigerians we know how to survive tough times the government has trained us to be survivals instead of citizens, our govt has always failed us we don’t even expect anything much from them anymore that’s how bad it is being.
There are so many factors affecting the price of these goods, the most important one is transportation, which is one even out locally made products seem to be expensive this is because the cost of transporting this goods to consumers is high, this is cause of bad roads and high cost of fuel. Transportation is one of our major problem in the country right now.

Many items don put money for up, you are right if lfestival dey come na so e dey be but this matter too early because festival still far but wetin I dey think say dey cause am na the naira wey dey raise against dollar because when I accompany my friend to shoe company to buy shoes for sell, dey say the price don go up we now asked and dey said na the dollar dey affect am I come shock say even shoe wey dey make for Naija, dollar still the affect am but Sha na the bad government wey we get cause am.
This is period make we use understanding as things be comport ourselves, the season will come and go and e Jo go male sense person use all the money wey dey for hand to spend for Christmas just to show off. People should never be carried away by the season because if they let the season to get into their head it can even them of taking loan just to celebrate well which will put them in debt which it will stress them of paying back. It is better to just stay and not birder to celebrate the season because it will come and go, no point for people to run into debts because they want to celebrate.

I will say this has been a common thing now any small increase in us dollars Nigerians will just increase price of things, fuel prices ,electricity and transport which is very high now making it difficult for both car owners, business men and women .this increase has make life difficult for people the salary Is not even enough to cover the needs we Nigerians need to do something about this.

All we have to do as people is to hope for a better tomorrow as our today's reality is strangulating us. The economy of our country is currently experiencing a term in economics called *hyper inflation",  where the market forces are majorly determined by the marketer's, as government can barely come in to mediate the situation as they are handicapped with the situation of things. We are in for a long ride but I believe we will surmount it with time.
The economy continually depreciates but there’s nothing we can do beyond us having to blend in with the rate of inflation. As its been observed once prices gets inflated, there’s little or no possibility of it deflating. Yea how disheartening it sounds but as a people we’ve got to live through it. This inflation is majorly due to the unstable economic situation and it’s really appalling as the elected representatives at the top governmental positions who ought to look into these loopholes to create a covering to reduce the effect are even the ones helping the economy to depreciate further cos of first greed and their incompetence.
The sad truth of every non developing nation is her inability to manage times of economic crisis to curb the effect of an unstable economy which will in turn lead to high cost of living, currency depreciation and worst of all high rate of poverty. In a situation where an economy starts declining and no proactive measure is done to prevent its worsening, it will only lead to less development and a scenario where the inhabitants would have to strive daily to survive in the unfavorable conditions. The best solution is to have a competent, selfless leaders who  would place the livelihood of their electorates first and ensure that they live sufficiently and they don’t deteriorate even as the economy does whilst trying to live through it. But we just hope on time.

Before this thing been dey worry me so much, e dey pain me as price of things just dey fly dey go when money no even plenty dey come like that. E get when e reach, I come advice myself say if I no stop thinking, person fit enter depression. Since then, I no dey worry myself again. If price increase, I buy as my hands reach and manage. The solution for this Naija matter na to just make more money because the price go continue to increase, e no go come down. If you dey wait make price reduce, you go wait tire.

The thing wey dey pain me for this matter be say Government no dey do anything to stop the inflation. Everybody just dey do anyhow them like for the country.
That's why the stealing rate is also increasing because of hunger. I'm not justifying why people should steal to survive or do anything illegal for money.
My point is this, the High cost of living can breed a bad or wrong lifestyle.
God made everything available for us here on earth but humans decided to make life difficult for ourselves. It is well with us all

I was expecting you would say price of goods and services including essential commodities has gone higher instead of saying "it has gone high" Or have you be on a low rate exchange before this seasonal approach? 😆

What could be the actual cause?
Simple as inflation as a caused to hard economy basically rooting at enriching the riches the more while indirectly taking taxes from the masses through the hike of goods and services.

..will the average Nigerian survive it? Well we only hope for a better tomorrow

The word "hope on God" is as feeling less concerned and given up to proclaim your possessions as what you are capable of doing and the awkward moments of blank-folding your potentials.
There is absolutely no manna's descendants from heaven.
You don't indirectionally instigate settling for less.
So... Don't hope on God with no point actions taken as an individual.
The government doesn't care about you and that doesn't warrant you to lost confidence of yourself waiting on Gods judgement day.
