Recovering losses still needs to be recommended because it can trigger you to deposit more money. After all, your money has been used up for the previous round. You have experienced it, but you are lucky to be able to win even though you have experienced loss before. It is really bad to chase losses.  You are lucky @OP that you are able to recover your losses with some profit in hand before quitting.  Many gambler that chases loss are not that lucky and end up losing all their bankroll deposits resulting in a huge amount of losses.   I also experience chasing losses and the result is undesirable so from then on, I stop when my bankroll got depleted and never again redeposit just to chase my losses.

The first thing you did was very risky, and you followed it up with another risky move. First,  you gambled an initial capital to start; that's okay, but you kept on playing because you hooked up and wanted to chase your losses. You said 'for fun only' then why do you end up wanting to chase your losses desperately? Second, you deposit a huge amount and stake a big margin or big bet, which is very risky. What if you also lose the money you've deposited? Will you chase it again? If so, then the cycle will only continue until you have nothing to gamble on anymore. Well, I think you can afford to lose that in the first place but lesson learned you don't have to chase losses that way. Imagine if you've lost all that a $2k bankroll is really huge to be lost in just a day especially if you are not that of a whale.

I don’t think affording to lose that was the case, and we really never can tell if the OP could have afford to lose that as it was never mentioned, what I understand from the OP’s action was the opposite, he never expected to lose his second deposit which was made to use and regain back his first deposit for the day that was lost entire, which makes him want to wager more in other to recover the money that has been lost, I don’t see such wagering choice as something someone who can afford to lose or want to lose such amount kind of thing.

But be that as it may it was really a wrong move by the OP, but the OP also have a good gambling skill adding to luck being on his side which make him win back all that was lost during his gambling for that whole day.

If you believe in the idea of luck or going on runs, then you should also know not to chase losses. When you’re hot you’re hot and when you’re not… I was taught when it comes to investing (and maybe applies to gambling a little bit) to let your winners run long and cut your losers short. Basically, if you’re losing then stop and if you’re winning keep going (although in the end given enough time everyone loses).

One bad thing with when you chase loses and get them once is that you will be encouraged to want to try another time when you gamble and then loose some money. The first time chasing loses and getting them may just be luck, you should not want to always try it or keep trying it. Counting losses has helped people been able to deal with what they loose, without trying to chase it, it should be copied by new gamblers who have never heard of the advice not chase losses.

Finally OP had made it and recovered what he had lost out of gambling. This isn't possible all the time. Most of the gamblers could've experienced it losing big money as they start to wager to kill money. Then onwards OP would never think of wagering when he gets bored. He isn't serious gambler, but if similar spending continues then he need to self analyse and stay on the safer side.

Not everyone able to enjoy gambling, because of the risk. With gambling we should have big money and in such situation the winning probability is very high compared to having limited funds and trying to recover the loss. Same time the risk used to be high while wagering with big money.

First of all, allow me to congratulate you on successfully recovering the losses you previously suffered. not many gamblers are as lucky as you, who are able to recover losses and most importantly, you are able to stop the gambling session after getting it. an experience that is quite meaningful and at the same time gives you pleasure.
Ideally as you said, chasing losses is the most risky option. however, I wouldn't say it's dangerous. because we are aware and know very well, before starting a gambling session, whatever type of game, you, I, we, are fully aware of every risk. sometimes I do what the OP does when I have free time and have nothing to do, I gamble with the aim of having fun, but I have my own limits when I decide to gamble and if I have implemented these limits but don't receive a profit I stop doing it.

If you gamble with the aim of having fun when you lose the initial capital you used for gambling you should take steps to stop and give up the money you have used for fun but in reality you deposit and deposit again with a larger amount and luckily you can recover the loss what you did just now, if you don't, you will probably be frustrated because you will lose an increasingly large amount of money.

Damn, I can't imagine how you feel when you deposit those big money, $1,800 is already huge amount as a bankroll and just to chase your initial $85+$250. But I can feel you, I have been in that kind of situation before. Depositing and then trying to chase the lost, but the twist on my end is that I was able to recover back some of the initial bankroll.

But I still didn't stop, and still chase for big win. Then I lost, then deposited some money again, and it the end I lost everything.

For sure it's a big and expensive lessons for you to learn and I just hope that you will not play as you have said as you already know the consequences of chasing losses.

By depositing more of the money that we have in gambling, it will certainly enable us to enjoy the gambling that we play, but it is not certain that we will be able to get back the money that we deposit in the games that we play. Returning to deposit after experiencing a loss of money that we have deposited, I don't think you can control yourself in gambling, of course this is a very bad thing because we can spend all the money we have just on the games we play.

What is lost in gambling is lost. Forget about recovering it through further gambling sessions. Instead, invest your time finding alternative ways to recover your losses through working or even investing. That is the only solid way to recover yourself from a severe loss, and solidity is what someone in a recovery phase should be looking for. You are quite lucky to recover your losses and got some profit. This would have been a very bizarre experience for you since you don't gamble and probably you have not lost such amount in gambling.

Well you were able to take the quiting decision after you have recovered and picked $150 from it because you are not cut out for gambling otherwise you would have seen it as the opportunity you have to make some profit as you have already started getting it but who knows if you would have lost more than that $1800 afterwards.

You are lucky to have gotten your money back and your experience would confirm to you that gambling is about how much luck can favour you.

OP, you are not alone, of course there are many experiences like this that are experienced by almost all the gamblers here and I have also experienced the same thing, but the only difference is that you may start with a small bet and lose and chase losses that end in victory, but my experience is betting small amounts getting a winning streak I lost control increasing the number of bets which ended in loss while the winnings I got had reached +$750 unfortunately I lost control losing all the winnings in the roulette game.

Your story has a happy ending.... for most people it is entirely different, because they lose all of their money and a lot more than what they can afford. I have gone into that crazy situation before....where I am chasing my losses and I have never stopped with a profit. 

I have learnt from my previous mistakes and I changed my gambling behavior since, so when I go into a losing streak.... I just quit. I stick to my budget and if it is gone... I stop gambling.

So you decided to "gamble for fun only", but you've started chasing your loses and you had to bet way more money in order to recover them.
How does that have anything to do with "gambling for fun"? I think that gambling for fun means that you could waste a small amount of money while gambling without the urgent need to recover them and to make profit. What you've done is exactly the opposite of gambling "for fun".
I agree that maybe you should stay away from gambling, because you might get easily carried away by the desire to recover your loses.

I've been there and I know how you feel, it takes a brave heart to go this route and learn from his mistakes, many don't learn and they keep trying over until they have nothing left, all you have to do is have a certain amount in mind for gambling, and you don't have to win everyday, have this in mind.
