Yes quite agree with your assumption, honestly I don't know what that person was thinking that he could get into gambling so easily, but it might be because of the pressure of their situation that finally concluded that they had to gamble, and also yes I can't fully justify my opinion on this because of course there are many other things they can do to just look for fun to take their mind off their problems with his wife.
