How to detect a scammer with grabify.link

Firstly, I am here to share an idea on how to detect a scammer. I believe that this thread will be of good help to almost some of us, mostly the crypto newbies in this forum that are seeking crypto advice from other sources on the internet. Please, it would be a very good idea to refer this idea to some of our members, friends and even some of our relatives that are into crypto.

Foremost, you go to grabify.link click on create URL and paste any link of your choice inside the space and then click on agree and continue, then the site will automatically generate a link for you just like this , all you have to do is just to copy the link and send it to the so-called scammer that is pretending to be a legit source.
After some minute i.e. up to 10 to 20 minutes later, you can go back to the recent page on the site and refresh it you will see the scammer IP provider, just click on it for a proper view, like this with this you can be able to see the scammer IP address, location, browser and even the device the scammer is using to scam people.

I suggest to increase the size of the images that you've included for everyone to see it easily. I have to zoom it for 4-5 times to see and read it at a minimal level.

Btw, it's interesting that it tracks the IP address whether it's a fake or real one. But if it just shows the VPN IP address of the person you're trying to track or the website that he owns, that's still no use I guess.

I haven't heard of this website before so this is still new to me and I'll check it for myself as well.

It will definititely show the VPN IP if someone is using a VPN. Ah, I don't think that a scammer is stupid enough to use his/her real IP to perform his/her scamming activities. Scammers usually are good at using technology and they are skilled in many things that qualify them as hackers as well and it's not easy to know their exact IP details because they can hide it using a VPN.

The OP's suggestion can be applied on the ones who aren't aware about VPN's and the ones who may be using a VPN to perform those activities then it would be waste of time to convince them to click that grabifiy.link's generated URL. I still think that it's good to track the ones who are newbie in scamming business.

I can't see a thing in your images. Please resize those images first. By the way, how are you sure that the website is real? I mean, how are you sure if it's showing you the real IP address, location, device ID, etc.? Have you actually tested it on your phone or computer? I suggest you test it first, if not. If you have, then surely it will be of great help to locate a scammer. I have seen a similar tool in a telegram bot. You have to host an image, give the hosting link to the bot. And it will use some kind of tool inject the code and give you a new link. When you send that link to a person if he clicks on that, you'll get all his information.

Well, I haven't tried it with any VPN connection, but I have a little more doubt that it will show the real IP address instead of the VPN IP address.

The site is a bit useful, as if it can easily detect a scammer that doesn't use any VPN connection to scam people. Although it is very hard to see such scammers, I still believe that there are some scammers that are new. However, they are not too underrated because they can do the undo with their little experience.

Scammers do not use their real IP address because some of them are very good at scamming people, more especially the crypto scammers, because there are a lot of untraceable crypto wallets.

However, most scammers believe that their victims do not have the mentality to detect them, so if any like is sent to them, it will be very easy for them to click on it because they don't expect their fatality to detect them with just a link.

As long as it's giving info for those that are looking for those websites that have scammed them, it's already helpful. But as you've said, some of the scammers might not hide their IPs so they're the ones that are new and not aware of such.

Find the IP and what device the scammer used  I think it's useless because the scammer is always using a VPN only a dumb scammer will let you know the IP and device he uses.

However, you can still use the IP even if he uses a VPN if you get help from some professional who knows more about tracking they can find what scammer use and request IP logs from the VPN provider.

I don't see trying to interact with a scammer is a good choice. If you are not a security expert, you should never do this. Because the scammer might be smarter than you, have deeper security knowledge than you and by interacting with a scammer, your device can be infected. You never knows what the scammer tries to trap you but when you know it, maybe you already have to bear serious consequences.

If I feel a person I am communicating with is a scammer, I left the conversation, erase the history and block it.

If I am not scammed but I know he is a scammer, I block him.

If I am not a White-hat hacker, a security expert, I have no interest to keep tracing a scammer. Because like your point, I can not do anything with a scammer and a professional scammer knows to mask his IP address with VPS or Tor and with my limited skills, I can not break down traces, connect dots from that scammer history on Internet.

Instead, the OP could have warned forum users not to follow all short links, although, if I'm not mistaken, the forum doesn't allow short links anyway. Users following such links not only end up on phishing sites but also reveal their data, after which an attack XSS can be carried out. But by sending such links, you are no different from the people who use them, and do not think that these people do not know about such tricks and do not protect their devices.

From what I see it doesn't have the capacity to expose the  real IP address of a scammer using a VPN and.scammers can easily use it to their advantage to deceive their victims believing that the location and IP they have been shown by the grabify.link is the actual details.

Things like this not careful used with you can end up going south for a user that depends on it. I think we just have to avoid any suspicious link we're not cool with. In this internet space if we create the attitude of avoidance we would be saving ourselves from avoidable risks that ordinary people encounters.

You can make your life easier by choosing another trade partner. I do not want to waste my time by asking many questions for a simple trade that can be done quickly.

Avoid offers which are too good to be true is one of golden rules to keep you away from scammers. By this, you also reduce questions you might have to ask yourself or your trade partner.

Using Escrow service is a good advice and even with Escrow, only release your bitcoin if you already received payment from a trade partner. Without payment, no release. Under any kind of pressure from your trade partner, don't release. Because creating pressure is art of scammers.

Short URL links are automatically a red flag for me, so I won't dare visit the link in the first place, like I would have created a warning message about visiting short links online instead of your write up OP.

Also scammers are not stupid to use their normal location when trying to scam people, they always use VPN and even advanced premium tools, scammers are of different levels, they don't think the same way and they all have different access to different scamming tools and tricks.

It is too hard to see your image better to make it clear with the text caption on the image, so still visible to the eye of the reader, next is after you identify the scammer's IP address at the end of the day you ca do anything not unless it's nearby in your place, but only noob will commit of scamming without using VPN expect they can travel around in just a second. This is a good findings by OP. It can guide newbies and other members from falling victim of scam sites but I was thinking if with this grabify one can know the scam site license issuer, day of creation, expiration and renewal if any. On the other, I was also thinking of scammers would be that dumb to expose their location when carrying their act. They more sophisticated mechanism put in place to detect scammers, the more sophisticated they go too because I believe they too would not want to be caught in the act so they would be vigilant to protect themselves and their work.  This could possibly work on newbie scammers.

Sometimes the available options are limited and you are forced to make the transaction. It is rare to find someone who has high trust, is online most of the time, and has a good exchange rate. Mostly, those with low trust are the ones who offer better exchange rates or services to attract customers. Sometimes the risk saves you a few dollars and  maybe makes it easier for you to be scammed.
It is true that it is almost impossible to avoid scam but at least do not let them scam you more than once.

This will not work if someone is using a paid or quality VPN. It only shows the IP of the user system that clicks on the generated link. Also, no scammer would click on any link sent by you instead they want you to click on their links and even if you have their actual IP and location, you can't do anything. I see you had a great intention while making this thread however in the actual real world, it's kinda useless.
