If people could manage their situation as easily by saying those things, then there would not be gambling addicts on this planet.
No one needs a reason to be addicted,.as you imply when you say you do not like others getting into it for "no reason", it is just about the instinctive seek for thrill or money, one does not need a back story or justification in order to fall for abuse of gaming games, alcohol or substances. When addiction hits you then there's no way that you could really be able to get out until you would really be having that devastated finances and this is why we should really be that careful
when it comes on dealing up with things. You wont really be that making yourself that get addicted if you are really just that sensible on the actions that you are making because if you dont

Thankfully you took the decision of stoping till the end until overcoming your addiction. I think that is the most important aspect in every stories of overcoming addictions: decision. If you don't have this, then you can have all the external support you can imagine, but it will be worthless, because the main and essential element has to come from yourself, from your free will and desire to achieve a better life. On the other hand, when the person has decision, but doesn't have any external encouragement, it can be also hard to make it till the end, but not impossible like it would be on the opposite scenario. What I think to be the most interesting part of your personal experience with gambling addiction was the moment your goals completely changed from chasing losses to realizing you should stop playing with a budget you can't afford to lose.
