Gambling has a way of trying to change us totally from who we are to something else. There was a time in my life when I was gambling more than expected. I was gambling with every single penny that gets to my hand. I will rather use the money to gamble than buy food or clothes. There got to a point I started borrowing to gamble and I will lose the money. People around started making jocks with my new gambling habit. My family began to complain about it. It was then I know I was going beyond the lines so I had to make adjustments immediately as there were clear sighs that I was getting addicted. I was spending more time in the gambling place than at home or anywhere else.

This means that you have experienced being a gambling addict, but fortunately, you immediately realized it thanks to people who may have warned you and your family started to worry about the activities you were doing. Indeed, gambling can change someone's real self into another person when they know what gambling is, but basically we have control over ourselves so as not to experience addiction, we must learn what gambling is and what its effects are, we must not be influenced by excessive gambling because this will lead to potential gambling addiction, especially if you are trying to earn income from gambling and you happen to be unemployed and not having a job or any activity, gambling will become the main activity to be used as a source of income, this is what will cause big mistake and lead to gambling addiction.

Yes I will agree with you that I once an addict. But my happiness is that I had people around me to keep me on the balance. At that time I had a job but the pay wasn't that much for me and I was looking for way to earn more from gambling. It was really a bad situation to be addicted into gambling, I was luck that it didn't take me much time to adjust. I know many people who are still struggling with gambling addictions. Sometimes I look at them and wonder if this was what I would have turned out if not for the help I got.

Realizing that you have crossed your limits in gambling is not easy because usually people who are addicted will find it very difficult to let go unless they get special treatment from experts so they can recover, and the people around you have an important role in making you realize this mistake.
So far I am still able to control myself well, only gambling when I have free time and also have funds that can be used for gambling, if those two are not available then I never force myself by borrowing or using money that is not for gambling, so I could say I.m not yet and do not want to experience addiction.

People would really be having always that denial on which it is really that common having this way because we cant really just that accept that we are addicted to it until we would be able to find out
that we are already wasting up money or spending up huge in gambling. In terms of addiction to gambling then i havent put up myself on such condition on which i have always that kind of self control when it comes to gambling and also in other means of spending. Budget and moderation would really be that crucial from time to time. Making yourself getting addicted with gambling
will really put you into so much trouble on which it would really be just that common sense that you should be avoid this thing in the first place if you dont like on getting wrecked up.

I am not a gambling addict, and I am wide open to accepting all opinions, as long as they lead me in a better direction.

I am not a gambling addict, but as long as we are still gambling, the possibility of us becoming a gambling addict is always there. Because on several occasions we can behave stupidly and become uncontrollable when gambling. So we behave carelessly which ultimately causes significant losses.

Gambling addiction is a complex and difficult problem, but it is not difficult for someone to become addicted to gambling. someone can easily fall into a gloomy valley in gambling just because of a small mistake.

Someone can be addicted to gambling without knowing, yes. There are so many persons who dont know that gambling addiction is when you cannot do without gambling,it is when no matter how you try to quit gambling, you still find yourself doing that same thing you never wanted to do again. There are a lot of people who if they should ask them whether they are addicted to gambling or not, they would respond by saying they aren't,Yet,they cannot stay a day without going to the Cassino hall to book a game, yet they cannot stay a day without login into the gambling site on their phone.
The only people who are free from this are the people who do not gamble at all, they are the people who can say they aren't addicted.

~
If someone has experienced a lot of losses in gambling, he should be able to realize that what he is doing is wrong and he should start changing what he does to avoid those big losses. They cannot hope to win from gambling because winning depends on luck and skill. And someone must be wise in gambling so as not to lose more. If he doesn't do it, he will only experience loss after loss, which could result in losses and could even cause him to lose all his money.

Gambling is not wrong, but we are wrong because we use it beyond our limits and many of us even hope too much to win from gambling. We can indeed win from gambling, but we can't get our hopes up because we are just ordinary gamblers who also have other needs that we have to fulfill, so we have to allocate a certain amount of money to meet our daily needs. And that is why we should not become a gambler who is addicted to gambling because it can have a bad impact on our lives.

I was once kind and tried to help someone who was addicted to gambling and warned him that it was very dangerous and harmful. But I don't know if it's because my delivery was not good or what, but the person I tried to warn really didn't realize his bad activities, and really couldn't accept the input I gave him, which was for his own good. And in the end it made me surrender and choose to let it go.

There is an assumption that when a person has lost many times in his gambling activities, it shows that he is getting closer to a big win. Maybe that assumption is what makes someone return to gambling after getting a defeat. which if you think with common sense, it is a significant loss which if it continues will be a fatal mistake.

I think that is true but also the fact that a gambler can also play on impulse. If they say they are getting a feeling it is going to be their lucky day, they can also face significant losses. Apart from the obvious loss when it comes to money, what would be the effect it has on the state of mind when a gambler believes they are going to eventually win but continue racking up losses?

Thankfully, I am not addicted to gambling but I have heard stories of people who have been deeply affected by gambling, I wish that upon nobody.

Everyone loses in gambling both the addicts and those that are in control of their gambling lifestyle, losing too much doesn't make you an addict but chasing those losses constantly can gradually make you an addict. Moreso, constant wild gambling can be a symptom of addictive gambling lifestyle when it turn to be a regular pattern of going wild for you and not until you go wild you don't get satisfactory with your gambling for the day, mate that's addiction taking a center stage.
The ones that cannot control themselves while they gamble should probably stop doing it as the risk they lose way more money than what they can afford is too high, because for those that are impulsive they do not even need to become addicted or chase their losses, just a few minutes in which they lose control of their emotions can be enough for them to accumulate massive losses, and in that case they should just leave gambling behind as it is clear that only bigger losses are awaiting for them.
Of course it's nothing but more bigger losses that awaits gamblers with such gambling culture of lack of control. But reasoning it, it's not that simple to leave gambling after recounting your losses how much you must have lost and at same time having the feeling that you can recover if you can just give it more time. People that are able to leave when they perceive that they are making more losses than they ought to have won are those who still have some coal of self discipline still burning in them, such people can manage to walk away and save themself from bigger loss.

The only time I can say that I was a gambling addict would be during my Jr/Sr year of college. This is when Texas Hold’em absolutely exploded and everyone was playing. I had a game I could join nightly in my own apt complex and I was hooked for months. I was a bit addictive, but the good thing is our buy ins were like $20..and we never did buy back ins.  I did waste a decent amount of $ when I’d go all in just because I’d get a text from my gf “you should come over” lol.  But thankfully, again, never a serious issue,

In this case of this thread the addiction mentioned is gambling but addiction to drugs and alcohol are also devastating. Unfortunately, there are so many real stories from real people that have suffered immensely because of addiction, it is heartbreaking.

It seems you got out of the habit before the habit really had a chance to manifest itself and turn in to an addiction. I am glad you managed to follow a different path when you were in your teenage years.

Gambling is not trying to change anyone, only if you try to change yourself. Before you start gambling, you should understand what gambling is all about, and you shouldn’t have the wrong mindset before starting to gamble. If you have the wrong mindset before you start gambling, then gambling will want to change you. You were addicted to gambling, that's why things were like that for you. Maybe you were trying to make money from gambling, that’s why you ended up being addicted to gambling. Anyone who has gone to the length of selling properties and taking loans to gamble really needs special attention because that’s purely addiction, if you gamble just to have fun, then you won’t have been selling your properties or even value gambling more than yourself.

~snip~
Yes I will agree with you that I once an addict. But my happiness is that I had people around me to keep me on the balance. At that time I had a job but the pay wasn't that much for me and I was looking for way to earn more from gambling. It was really a bad situation to be addicted into gambling, I was luck that it didn't take me much time to adjust. I know many people who are still struggling with gambling addictions. Sometimes I look at them and wonder if this was what I would have turned out if not for the help I got.
At least you have friends or family who remind you and you immediately realize that you have crossed the line and are almost addicted. Usually people who are addicted will find it difficult to tell, even advice will not work because people like this only think about gambling. and luckily you have a job that takes up your time and you can focus on that job so you don't gamble all day long, maybe if you are unemployed you will become a gambling addict because you don't do any activities.
If you really want to gamble, that's fine as long as you can control yourself do it occasionally just to relieve fatigue after you have worked all day, don't have hopes that you will get additional income from gambling, because that is something that is difficult to achieve.

Well, it's normal if he doesn't want to accept input from you because when someone has become addicted to gambling, he will feel that he is the most right while other people who give advice are just suggestions. He will not take the suggestion seriously and will go back to doing what he wants to do. Well, maybe it's better for him first to feel the consequences of what he does in gambling so that he can know and realize that what he did was wrong and must be corrected immediately.

If he thinks that experiencing repeated losses in his gambling activities makes him closer to a big win, that is an inaccurate assumption because he can still experience even bigger losses. We cannot make someone change his opinion, especially when he is already addicted to gambling. He would only regret it later after he realized that he had a serious gambling addiction and that it was a fatal mistake he had made.

Thankfully, I am not addicted to gambling but I have heard stories of people who have been deeply affected by gambling, I wish that upon nobody.

And the fact is that anyone can be a gambling addict, as long as he or she is still doing his or her gambling activities. So this is where it is important to continue to ensure that our gambling activities are well controlled, do not cause significant losses and do not interfere with other activities. Know when to start the game and know when to stop the game. And if you really want to avoid gambling addiction, then immediately stop the activity and never return to gambling. because the biggest risk and the closest risk of a gambler, is to become a gambling addict.

Well, it's normal if he doesn't want to accept input from you because when someone has become addicted to gambling, he will feel that he is the most right while other people who give advice are just suggestions. He will not take the suggestion seriously and will go back to doing what he wants to do. We cannot make someone change his opinion, especially when he is already addicted to gambling. He would only regret it later after he realized that he had a serious gambling addiction and that it was a fatal mistake he had made.

That's why I choose to no longer try to remind gambling addicts of their bad activities. Because it only causes a long debate and also a dispute. When trying to remind gambling addicts. we are really required to be extra patient. Because they are gambling addicts often reverse the facts, which makes us a little emotional.

In fact, gambling addiction changes the way people see things and makes those who have it think they cant make mistakes. We see this happen a lot: the more they lose, the more sure they are that they will win soon. Its a trick for the mind, right? You cant think straight when you think about sunk costs! Losses are being seen as steps toward success, and they're stuck in a loop. What kind of victory? Going bankrupt? Emotional chaos?

It seems harsh that you're making him deal with the results, but it might be just what he needs to break the cycle. Having problems in your life can teach you some of the most important lessons. Still, isnt there a risk? The more people want to get their money back, the bigger the loss. Its a paradox: we cant make them realize it, but its painful to watch them spiral. Is there a way to go in the middle? Helping in a quiet way, maybe by sharing stories of healing and planting seeds of self-awareness. Change does come from within, after all.

I see a lot of people here talking about gambling responsibly. Yes, that is something very true, but have you ever been a gambling addict?

To be honest in the past I have spent a lot of money gambling. What I mean here is that I spent all my savings on gambling. Maybe the nominal amount is not that big but it makes me feel like a gambling addict. I spent 5 months of my savings on gambling. Currently I am aware and am in the stage of improving my own financial condition. Have you ever felt like a gambling addict? and how much did you lose in gambling?

It is not good to use our hard-earned savings for gambling. You are tired and worked hard, and then we will just throw away the money from gambling. This is a big mistake that we will make in life, honestly.

Even if we think that when we win, it's a big deal, it will still be wrong because the basis of winning at the casino is just luck, and we know that. I hope that we give value to the effort and time that we have given to the savings that we have made. We should dedicate them to a good and meaningful reason to use them.

Yes, you have acted appropriately. Let them choose what they want in gambling and if that means they will lose more, it is their fault. They may have to experience loss first before they can realize what they have done and want to improve themselves and change their gambling activities. But hopefully, they won't have to suffer many losses before they realize their mistake. Yes, we don't need to argue with them because it will just waste our time. We can only watch them while they are still gambling and be on guard if they need our help later.

In fact, gambling addiction changes the way people see things and makes those who have it think they cant make mistakes. We see this happen a lot: the more they lose, the more sure they are that they will win soon. Its a trick for the mind, right? You cant think straight when you think about sunk costs! Those who are addicted to gambling will not think that they have made a mistake and that the mistake was even fatal. But they wouldn't be able to realize it before they experienced a fatal loss that made them deeply regret it. And by experiencing losses from gambling and even going bankrupt, maybe it just opens their eyes that they no longer have anything and everything is lost because of gambling. They are required to immediately stop gambling because they no longer have anything and must immediately cure their gambling addiction.

They have to experience these problems before finally realizing what their mistake is so that they are willing to start changing and learn from what happened to them. But the more they gamble longer and more often, it will only make the problem bigger and they will not be able to get through it. And the longer they try to recover their losses, the further they will be from recovering their losses and that will increase their losses even more. In fact, they can see that they have experienced a lot of losses, but they don't want to admit it. Instead, they gamble more often on the grounds that they are very close to winning. They don't want to stop gambling when they are close to winning, even though it is just their imagination.

I hope that we give value to the effort and time that we have given to the savings that we have made. We should dedicate them to a good and meaningful reason to use them.
It is not good to use any money that isn't extra for gambling, and by extra, I mean money that isn't needed for anything and is left after everything is done. Let's suppose I earn $1,000 a month, $500 out of it goes to my household expenditures which includes grocery, bills, necessary shopping, and stuff, $200 of it goes to my savings that I do every month, $100 for personal expenditures for things that I buy, consume, or maybe gas for the vehicle, etc. Now, the remaining $200 is extra, now it's up to me about what I would want to use that money for, I can gamble with it or add it to my savings.

So, every gambler, big or small, needs to understand that the money they are using should only be extra and not from their savings or the money that they need for their monthly expenditures or it's money that they've borrowed from somewhere because if that money is lost, there is no way they can get it back.

It's true that gambling can change a person if you don't have control and limits on yourself, you can get addicted to it. It's good that your family was there and woke you up and made you realize that what you're doing is wrong. You're lucky you weren't too addicted and you got out right away.
It's not bad to gamble, it's really fun to play gambling it's entertaining, you just really need full control of yourself before you enter here.
