In 2011 I’ve bought 100+ BTC on some cryptocurrency stock exchange and now I can not remember what was the site exactly.
I’ve got only email which also was a login name and my passport information.
I’ve made a purchase using my credit card but it is impossible to get a bank statement for the year 2011 now.
There is no information about this purchase on my email also.
Does anybody have any idea how to find out what was the site and where the BTC now ?
Maybe it is possible to analyse all the Bitcoin blockchain blocks for feb.-march.2011 and to select those who contains the sums near to 100 BTC ? And then  we can try to find the owner of the bitcoin adress where the funds were transfered to... Is it real ?
The reward of 10 BTC will be distributed in case we find this BTC.

This is more like an impossible situation since you don't even know the name of the exchange. I don't know how someone will analyse rhe blockchain networks to find 100 BTC transaction in 2011 since trades on CEX is not broadcasted on the network.

The best you can do is to check which exchanges were operational in 2011 and those legally available in your country. When you find that out, try the forget password option and they will send you password recovery link to your email if you have account with them. Hopefully your BTC will be there.

The forum is great for peeking at the old days since threads that time are still alive and may serve a clue.

But the thing is, if it's 2011, the exchange is highly likely to be defunct now with MIA owners or with no backup information from that time and could pose a problem when trying to prove you own what you claim to own. It's also safe to assume owners would prefer not to refund anything back. Recovery chances seems extremely low.

I think it's only through some kind of sorcery power that
can reveal this to you. Common, you were the one who bought the bitcoin on whatever exchange you claimed to, so how can someone else on this forum be able to tell you the exchange where you bought the coin?

I think what you seek is not very possible. If you had transferred those coins to a self-custodial wallet, then it would have been easy to track the wallet, but you left the coin on that exchange, and even if it was sent to a different wallet, we cannot tell if it was your bitcoin because there could be other people, many people who bought 100 bitcoins that same period, and they could have sent them to some self-wallet too.

You might want to start with your bank to see if they can dig up all transactions that happened on your account in 2011..which might attract a fee with some banks if this is possible , btw if you account has internet banking access have you tried to check for these records which should be a free service afaik ??

If step 1 is a success, hope this platform you used to buy your Bitcoins is still in existence because some platforms have shutdown in the last 10+ yeas like the likes of localbitcoins etc. Just hope this won't be a deadened after all the effort being put..

Are you dreaming or what??
How do you think someone will restore a bitcoin from a site you knows not their names, okay even as that I believe you can go to your bank to back date to 2011 to see the site you bought such huge amount of bitcoin. But to tell you the truth, there is no way to get back such amount of bitcoin will be possible because even if is possible I think the exchange has collapse and the fund is gone so don't bother yourself stressing to recover lost btc.

In 2011 I’ve bought 100+ BTC on some cryptocurrency stock exchange and now I can not remember what was the site exactly.

Since you didn't even indicate which service it could be, it isn't straightforward for someone to investigate this for you.
If the transaction dates from 2011, and currently there are not many currently active services/exchanges that date from that time. As one of the possibilities, you can try to reset the password on all exchanges from that time. For example, go to https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/ and check one by one which was registered on or before 2011.

Another thing you can try is to at least find out what your address is. If you remember the exact amount of Bitcoin you had there and the approximate date when the transaction took place, look at this list List of all Bitcoin addresses ever used - weekly updates work again!

Everything seems quite laborious and a lot of manual work, but if it is the amount you mention, it would be worth a try.

100bitcoins is a lot of money, why wait till now to find it? I’m sorry but the information you provided is not useful, there are a lot of exchanges ( scam or legit) you could have used in 2011. Maybe if you could tell us the name of the exchange, we may be able to help. If you still have the email, the name of the company should be in the email. Also you can write to your bank to request for your bank statements for that year. 100 bitcoins is a lot of money not to try all your options.

I don't think that you'll ever recover that. If it's a real thing that you've purchased 100 bitcoins on 2011 and you've got no information, then there's no one that can help you at all.

And even if there's an information and you have bought that in an exchange then most likely it's no longer existing now.

This will be a very difficult case to solve, and some might not even want to give their two cents because they don’t see any possibility of you getting your coins back.

In 2011 I’ve bought 100+ BTC on some cryptocurrency stock exchange and now I can not remember what was the site exactly.
I’ve got only email which also was a login name and my passport information.

From what you have written it seems like you used a centralized exchange to buy your coin; but the issue here now is “are they still operating?” If you don’t remember the name of the exchange you used i think it’s because it was not a popular one and might have closed down their service and that’s one issue you’re more likely to face. And since it’s a centralized exchange there’s nothing you can do to reclaim your coins back if it my speculation turns out to be true.

Quote
I’ve made a purchase using my credit card but it is impossible to get a bank statement for the year 2011 now.
There is no information about this purchase on my email also.
Does anybody have any idea how to find out what was the site and where the BTC now ?

This is another dead end;

Quote
Maybe it is possible to analyse all the Bitcoin blockchain blocks for feb.-march.2011 and to select those who contains the sums near to 100 BTC ? And then  we can try to find the owner of the bitcoin adress where the funds were transfered to... Is it real ?

You remember the popular phrase ”not your key, not your coin”? that’s what best explains this situation. It will be impossible to analyze the transaction since it was never made because you purchase it in your cex account and all that was displayed in your account were just number not real bitcoin so unless you moved it to your non-custodial wallet you won’t be able to get anything by analyzing the blockchain chain.

And aside from that; if your come across a transaction with 100+ bitcoins it does not automatically mean that’s your transaction, there is a high probability of people transacting that amount since the value was not substantial back then so this is also another dead end.

Quote
The reward of 10 BTC will be distributed in case we find this BTC.

This reward is quite enticing with the current price of 1BTC but until you come up with a better lead on this case I’m afraid nothing can be done for you.

You registered on the forum for more than a year now, but only though to ask now about a 100BTC stash that has been lost for over11 years? I call bullshit on your story.

If it is true that you bought that amount of Bitcoin and had them on a centralized exchange they are all but lost now cause the exchange should have closed down already and the owners will have moved whatever amount o bitcoin was stored in them.

In 2011 I’ve bought 100+ BTC on some cryptocurrency stock exchange and now I can not remember what was the site exactly.

Are you absolutely sure that it was a real event and not just a dream? You lack any tangible evidence, so maybe it was all just a figment of your imagination?   Grin

Hey I feel sorry if this is real but it will be almost impossible be try and find the exchange because most probably they would have shit down long time ago and try to check if you could find any other email about this transaction because whenever we make any purchase we are notified through email as well hence that would be only last hope in case if the exchange is still operational. But man how can someone forget which exchange he/she has purchase over 100 Bitcoins, try listing down the exchanges which were operational back in 2011 and try your luck with all those exchanges if they are active, in case if you are unable to find it then move on as nothing much can be done. Atleast for further investment try having an Excel tracker for all your investments and credentials and also a handwritten diary and keep it safe just in case life gives you one more opportunity like this.

If you bought this Bitcoin year 2011 the only exchange that I know is Mt. Gox which is already long gone.
However, the site is accessible and they mention that they are going to refund users funds.

If I'm right I don't know if you can get your refund because they always postponed the refund date according to this article below they going to refund users last March but I never heard of someone successfully gets refunded. Now the Mt. Gox site has a notice that the lump sum Repayment will start from October 31, 2023 until 2024.

Sorry to disappoint you but you won't be able to gain access to your purchased Bitcoin with such limited information. You don't have any information about your wallet address and you don't even remember the name of the exchange via which you have purchased your Bitcoin. Just forget about your Bitcoin my friend, they might be resting in peace and the owner of the exchange might have used those to enjoy some years of his life.

This I would say is up to the task of one doing a bounty. How come for 11 years  you never bothered about your asset in held on a by third party exchange. I believe they would be sending you messages as the volume of BTC held in their custody is not anyways small. You should have been receiving emails from them as well reminding you of your assets if that is possible. I see no reasons why you should neglect your asset in such a way. Is it now that it means so much a huge amount of money that is when you would remember it. I think you should do a search through your mail box back date to 2011 trace sequentially mail for mail but it would take up your time only if you are really ready to pay the sacrifice to do so because no other person can do such for you only you as you have your email details yourself and I don't think it can be traced that easy on bitcoin  blockchain so easily as there are millions of transactions already recorded so it would be very challenging to do.

Rewards don't matter, but I wish you to recover your assets. First, try to convince your bank about your statement, where you may find the data where you bought the bitcoin. And we aren't sure if the exchange where you bought your bitcoin still exists. Search Google to see which exchanges were active during your purchase year and try to login. Use the forget password everywhere, and you may get mail. Without a proper clue, it's impossible to recover your bitcoin.

And then  we can try to find the owner of the bitcoin address where the funds were transferred to... Is it real?
The reward of 10 BTC will be distributed in case we find this BTC.
Lolz Op,  how possible do you think or expect someone here to have an idea of the site when you in particular were the one that carried out this transaction in 2011 and you could no longer recall vividly how and which site it was.

A lot of things have happened all these years and possibly even the site may no longer exist and have gone out of business due to unknown reasons,  the chances of you recovering these funds are very tiny as you don't own the keys to the wallet, 100 BTC is not a penny now, is worth huge amount of money now and keeping it in such a site you don't control till date, the possibility of them even getting rid of your account on their platform if they still exist is high and maybe thinking you are no longer alive.

Shouldn't this email tell you what you are looking for? Since you have bought your BTC way back 2011, it is possible that the exchange had already shutdown. If it is still up there is a huge possibility that it would be Bitstamp since it is the oldest exchange operating so far.

Bitstamp was founded 2011, the same year you bought your BTC.  So might try your luck on this.
