Indeed. Turkish food (Döner Kebab) is extremely popular in german speaking countries. I live in a small town, but we have several places selling kebab.

Not just German speaking countries, but probably half of Europe - Eastern and Central Europe, Balkans, Nordics maybe.

Not tacos for me today, just likely some arepa or an empanada. Have you ever tried those?

Never heard about it before, now I googled it and it looks tasty. Would like to try it, but probably I wouldn't find it anywhere near to my location. There is always option to do your own, but I'm not good at kitchen and a bit lazy for it .

It is actually very easy to make, specially arepas (empanadas need a little bit of more of skill to flop the dough over the filling). In case you wanted to try to make your own arepas, you only need some corn flour, salt, water and a flat pan for you to cook on it.
Some of your favorite Cheese would be enough to fill the arepa or the empanada. Also, since you have never heard about those kinds of food, I assume you must be from Asia or Africa, since those have become popular enough things to eat in this continent.

The idea that this post can pay for me to eat tacos is wild. Anyway, I’m happy to report that after some disappointing tacos last week that were clearly made by someone different, my regular taco man is back at it and outdid himself today.

You know, you post makes me think about some ideas I have had for long time about the access of food there in the United States. I have got some friends there who have told me it is pretty much impossible to starve there, because food is very cheap and there are even things like food banks, food stamps and charities which provide the minimum to the needy. Your post about the price and the availability of those tasty tacos you continue to share is an example of it , in my opinion.
Me being from South America, I have got the impression people from your country take from granted the blessing of always having affordable food near them, one must truly be thankful about it.

Have you heard about Tequeños? it is a typical from here which have lately become very popular around the world, even in USA, you may like it if you like cheese.

I have never heard of Tequeños but did take a minute to look them up. Seems like almost a cross between a cheese taquito and a croissant. I’m sure I would love them but might have to take a closer look at the menu next time I’m at a Mexican restaurant.

While there are some great deals in the US, there are also really bad deals. A few days ago I had to stop at a fast food restaurant (Culver’s) and spent $25 on a fast food cheeseburger and fries. I would have preferred my $1.79 tacos…

Well, you won't find Tequeños in the menu of your Mexican restaurants, because Tequeños are not from Mexico, but rather from Venezuela. So you better find some Venezuelan restaurant within your area where you can try them. I am not sure about the typical price of them though, so check how good valued whatever Restaurant you find before going there.

Also, 25$ for a burger is rather expensive, from the things I have read from my friends in the United States, that is the kinda the price tag you are supposed to find attached to meals other than fast food. Here where I live one can find a full plate for lunch for about 10$ and some snacks which could serve as a breakfast for about 1-3$.

I assume you thought I was Mexican because of the fact I mentioned tequeños and this thread is about Mexican food.

By request, here’s a picture of 3 tacos that I have just eaten and enjoyed immensely. It came out to $5.84 after taxes, which is a hell of a deal. They’re also available in 3 types, shredded beef, ground beef, or chicken. I’ve never tried the chicken before but maybe next Tuesday. I’m also curious what tacos look like and how much they cost in your country if you wanted to post a similar picture.

Thanks for sharing this picture of tacos, it sheds more light on the beauty of the food, because your eyes will stimulate your appetite first before you have the hunger to eat it, as a matter of fact this is the first time that I'm seeing what tacos even looks like. Seeing the tantalizing pictures of tacos, I'm now looking forward to having a bite of it, but I've never heard or seen where it's sold in my country, it's really sad that it's not a recognized food in Nigeria. Hopefully I'll visit USA some day and have a taste of tacos, then I'll make a judgement for my self whether it'll live up to it's hype of being very delicious. Another thing is why taco Tuesdays? The only thing related to Tuesday taco, from this thread is that a member said that it's sold cheaper on Tuesdays, probably to keep the tradition going.

I may not be familiar with the name taco but from little researched i made it seems to be called shawarma to my local understanding because that is exactly how shawarma looks like it is comprises of all details i find in my research. Well Taco or shawarma is mostly fresh at all time and it is very nice to consume it is good for those who are having health issues like our African region were we consumed lot of carbohydrate which mostly cause diabetes however it's mostly recommended for the patient who are facing such difficulties. I could be wrong but i know someone who knows more than can put more light this write up.
I don't have a specific date to consume Taco but it mostly valued over here on Friday's or Sundays in my country within my locality.. few happening places around my environ.

Such a big coincidence I had one of them some days ago at a new Restaurant here in my city and they were delicious. As far as I know, traditional shawarmas are supposed to be filled with lamb meat and have some sauces with are prepared in the middle east, though because the cost of thar kind of meat we had to go for normal beef ones missed with chicken.  Those were probably the most juicy and well made shawarmas I have ever had.

Also, I did not know shawarmas were common in Africa as well, I thought they were only a thing here in the Americas and in the middle east, near turkey where I suppose to be the origin of such exquisite culinary gift for the rest of the world. If there is any specific way shawarmas are prepared in your country, then feel free to share with us, I am quite curious about it.

Would love to see each of you share pictures of shawarmas from your country and the price you pay as a fun little experiment.  Maybe I'll branch out a bit one of these Tuesdays and get a little more upscale taco so that people can see a more typical price and taco for my area.  The tacos I get are pretty cheap fast food tacos, so some of the fancier folks in my area probably wouldn't even eat them to be honest.  I personally like the cheap fast food tacos from mom and pop shops, but I could do my part and show some variety on this thread as well.

Tacos are indeed very similar to Shawarma, but the spices, seasonings, and toppings are slightly different.  In Greece they call shawarma "gyros," but they are essentially the same thing.  The way the meat is seasoned can actually be very similar also.  The primary spice is cumin in both, but in varying quantities with other more local seasonings added.  Tacos and Shawarma can be made with chicken, but originally shawarma are made with a mixture of lamb and beef.  The toppings can also be similar; everything from fresh tomatoes to cabbage, fresh or pickled peppers, cilantro, and fresh onions.  I've never seen cucumbers on a taco where they're quite common on shawarma.  The main difference is the sauces; Mexicans use a tomato or tomatillo based salsa, Arabs use tahini (sesame butter) based sauce or a yogurt sauce, and Greeks almost exclusively use a yogurt sauce.  

The best shawarma I've had was in Ramallah, Palestine, where the locals claim it was invented.  I've also had them in Nablus and Al Quds (Jerusalem,) all amazingly good.  In Amaan, Jordan they can be found on almost every street corner, and also among the best I've had.  Once I made the mistake of trying one at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia, never again!  The worst was from a street vendor in New York where they put mayonnaise on it.  Fucking mayonnaise!  There are a couple of local mom and pop delis here in northern California that do a decent job.

Shawarma meat is cooked on spit like the photo below.  Mexicans use the same method for cooking adobado, al pastor, and trumpo which are all essentially the same thing (marinated pork,) but come from different regions of Mexico.  There's a sense of regional pride and friendly competition about which is the best.  I don't eat pork, so I can't tell you if they are any different from one another.

Chicken and beef for tacos is usually cooked on grill, but one of the unique things about tacos is the variety of meats one can choose.  Carne asada (beef) and pollo asada (chicken) are grilled or sauteed, lingua (beef tongue,) cabeza (braised beef head,) pollo verde (chicken braised in tomatillo salsa,) buche (braised pork,) carnitas (deep fried pork,) or adobado variants as mentioned above.  

White people tacos are usually made with ground beef, which is an inexcusable tragedy.  My favorite tacos are carne asada and cabeza.

I got confused with tacos and nachos haha anyway in our country, tacos aren't as widespread as in some other places. Our local cuisine is rich with adobo, sinigang, and other delicious dishes, but tacos are not a typical part of our daily fare. It's interesting to see how food preferences and availability vary across cultures

I double dipped on tacos last week, felt like comparing the cabeza tacos from two of my favorite places for Mexican food.

Tuesday's cabeza tacos were from a locally owned and operated Mexican grocery store that has an on-site butcher, deli, and taqueria.  These were really good, but on the expensive side at $4.99 a piece.




Thursday's cabeza tacos were from a local taqueria, they cost $3.99 a piece.  Also extremely good, maybe a tad bit better.  I think the meat was cooked in better spices, but I like the salsa at the other place just a little bit better.




The tacos from both places are about the same size, 6" (15cm) tortillas.  On Thursday I was ordering food for me and my son, so I ordered a third taco to supplement his burrito.  The kid is 5-11 and 150lbs, but considering the way he eats he must have a family of tapeworms he's supporting.

I would like to share my own local shawarmas and other food, but unfortunately that is the kind of stuff I only get on special occasion, otherwise I get homemade stuff. However, If I happen to have the chance to share some pictures, I will try to share them here.
I would personally recommend shawarmas to you, if you like tacos you are very likely to enjoy those as well. They are served with chicken, beef or both as filling.

Also, sometimes the fancy people just like to over pay for their food, a good shawarma or a taco from a food post where they know how to catch the flavor is pretty much enjoyable if the price is affordable.

Anyways, If you want to find some shawarma places near you I assume you won't have any problem using some websites or applications like tripadvisor or Gmaps.

I don’t eat tacos on Tuesday mainly because it is not a tradition in my country

I don’t even think tacos are that popular in my country it really is not a staple food so we’ll probably just eat tacos if we really are craving for it but we would not eat it regularly besides even if it was a tradition i don’t think i would go out of my way to buy on fastfood chains or restaurants to eat some tacos

It would be better to make it at home since the expenses would be lower and it can be consider a lot healthier since you can control the ingredients that goes in cooking tacos

Good tacos today but I think I was a little too excited to eat and didn’t snap a picture. I need to expand my horizons anyway and post some more upscale tacos. While cheap tacos are amazing, they aren’t really a good price reality of the food here and people from other countries shouldn’t get the wrong idea.

When I am visiting my favorite place (in which also located my favorite taco serving) surely I will buy tacos no matter if this is one day or everyday as long as I am there.

My wife also loves it.

Sure they might look like a crazy person made them, I forgot the hot sauce, and I won’t win any awards for tossing lettuce everywhere (but it was a nice blend of lettuce carrots and cabbage) or smashing sour cream on top, but all that and the terrible picture aside, these 4 ground beef tacos were really good.

Looks like this dish is very tasty and it looks very nice too. This food is not available in our country or in our city because it has very little relation with our diet. But I will try to make it at home. Maybe it will be a new experience.
