Good afternoon my country people.

This topic was formed from a lecture discussion where the lecturer asked the question "is Nigeria a failed project?" And it made me wonder, if we had the solutions to our problems why isn't anybody working towards making the country better?

It's no news that the country is getting way worse than it was yesterday, meanwhile people predicted it to be developed not long after it's independence. From the high illiteracy and unemployment rate to the devaluation of our currency, and the continuous corruption in the government sector. When the question was asked, of course, some students agreed that Nigeria is actually a failed project cause of the signs we see everyday. Meanwhile, some said Nigeria isn't a failed project considering the following points:

First of all, projects are of 2 kinds;  the short term projects and the long term projects.

Short term projects are known as "Goals", and the way of solving short term problems or meeting a goal is through "Tactics".

Long term projects are known as " Objectives", and solution is through "Strategies".

They argued that it's possible that the solutions to Nigeria's problems are on the long run and are not solutions that'll bring up results today, but the thing is how long is this long term project going to last ?

Secondly, there's something in projects "Goal/Objectives congruence" . This refers to harmonization of goals. It's very possible that everyone is doing their work and is working towards different goals that aren't bringing forth general good fruits but individual selfish based fruits, and this is the number 1 thing you'd see in Nigeria. Hardly would you find someone who wants to work for the people, and also hardly would you find people who are ready to elect and listen to someone who's ready to help them. People have their head elsewhere. Take for example, elections, the general goal is to elect someone who would lead and help push the country upwards, but some people are focused on just getting into power, others are focused on stealing ballot boxes and making quick cash, and many others. So, in order for things to go smoothly while working on goals, one would have to synchronize the focus of everybody's individual want, harmonizing them in order to get general gains.

Thirdly, there may be visions, projects, objectives etc for the country, but poor strategies and tactics are used in meeting them, making it therefore slow, poor and inefficient. Again, I'd like to add that Nigeria may be working on old rules while alot of other countries are working on and implementing new and innovative ideas for their economic development. Take for example, the fact that many countries have accepted Bitcoin and are using it, while a few have even made it their legal tender, taking them further and further into the future. While in our country, only a few have Investments in Bitcoin, only a little above those few own Bitcoins, while after adding a little more percentage of Nigerians, you would now have the number of people that have heard of it. This is quite backwards.

Some of Nigeria's economic plans that may be seen as failed projects include; The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), The National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS), The Vision 20:2020.

In conclusion, I'm going to be throwing the question to the public. In your opinion is Nigeria and failed project ? And reasons why you picked yes or no.

Thank you.

Is Nigeria a failed project ?
Capital Yes, my reason for saying this is that the path we are now is different from what our forefathers plan for us. Assuming we followed their foot steps we will not be  in this mess. Nigeria democracy is total different from any democracy we know, democracy definition is government of the people, by the people, and for the people but in the case of Nigeria the definition is total different "government of our leader, by our leader, and for our leader". This is what is happening now, during election we are asked to come out and vote and later our vote does not count because court decide our leader not we the mass anymore.

I think arguing about Nigeria being a failed project or not isn't necessary at all. If we agree that Nigeria is a failed project, how does it translate to making Nigeria better? If after our argument we decide that Nigeria isn't a failed state, does it change the fact that thousands of graduate are unemployable because the institutions that ascertained that they are fit to graduate is very quack, outdated, and none functional and shouldn't be allowed to guarantee who his qualified to be called an engineer, lawyer or doctor.

I think that one of the major problems we have as a nation is that we are just good at analyzing our problems without putting in the effort to see ourselves out of this sorry state we find ourselves  in

As everything be now for di country, no matter how patriotic wey di citizens dem de, we no fit to deny reality say di country de fail. E de very sad say every new regime wey enter go give us renewed hope but by di time wey dem wan leave office, di economy go de worse off pass as e be before dem enter.

If I wan summarize how we take reach dis level in one word na CORRUPTION in capital letter, because people wey dem don get evidence say dem embezzle money, even if dem carry dem go court, even if las las dem detain dem, di next thing wey go know be say dem don bail dem, and di matter don die and buried. Dis na one of di big reasons wey upcoming corrupt officials de get morale say if dem embezzle money nothing serious go happen.

Hope de if we fit get di right leadership for our country, na good leadership wey go fit fight corruption and no go put square pegs in round holes. Anyway make we still de hopeful for dis present administration, maybe dem long term plans to make di country better go happen before dem leave office and carry am over to the next administration.

Good one brotherly, Nigeria as a whole isn't the first nation to experience this kind of setback but what makes these other nations better is the fact they actually worked towards a solution to this upsets that were going on, so as a country we are all task on making Nigeria one way or the other we all have our role to play. And complaining without action is certainly not the way to go about it

Thank you.

No, Nigeria is a failed state yet, a failed state is when none state actors, control the the institutions. Our case is more like civilian rule, that is been masqueraded under the illusion of democracy.
Though some people will hold the argument that we are sliding towards a failed state.
The project called Nigeria, can only make headway, when we begin to build strong institutions, as for now we have people that are stronger than our institutions, and That's not healthy for a country that wants to practice democracy.

Poor judicial system
Power supply failure
Curupt electoral bodies
Lack of proper financial management or mismanagement of government reserved funds
Lack of production of agriculture product
Lack of inport an exportation
Lack of good security system
Lack of job creation or empowerment
Lack of compitency due to favouritism etc

Me self don tire always to dey repeat myself for Nigeria problem. And one thing wey dey dere be say people don tire and it seams the only way this thing fit dey possible to stop na violence. But who dey Ready to bear the cat? Consedring wetting happen for endsars protest.

I'm tempted to agree that Nigeria is a failed state but let's just have a piece of hope. Asides that the present situation of Nigeria needs emergency help but those in power don't have any clue on how to rescue it.
The worst thing about Nigeria is that the citizens will never kick out these political hijackers through voting coz they're incharge of all institutions

Actually you are right, but will they give us chance to explain our self, all this is happening just to favor the people at the top as for us they don't care about us, we all know they can't be the same all there but look at how they are treating any one among that is speaking the truth, sometimes the consider the person as a mad person, my brother will are weak we don't have such power to do anything, but to my own opinion is that if really they have good mind and hearing bad things we are saying about them, they will adjust. Now take for instance when people are looking for your downfall and you noticed will you sit back and allow them to laugh at you, no but rather it will motivate you to surprise them. If someone is praising you, you will continue to become weaker.

OP, if there is another adjective to qualify Nigeria I would use it, since there is none more than failed state or project, I will be using failed state to describe this country, the characteristics of failed state has been much exhibited by this country, a country in which her government do things as if there is know plan for tomorrow, always thinking abstract, making subject that has no future in it, since the democratic dispensation has Nigeria ever had any leader with good ambition and the plight of his people at heart, most times I always think that military regime is better than now, some of this looting, mispriority and misappropriation of funds can never take place that time, a president wakes up decide whatever he like without any consultation, most times I get tired of discussing about Nigeria because what we just need now is God total intervention and nothing else.

I wouldn't say Nigeria is a failed project. The problem we are facing in this country is just too complex. But you know that all problem has a solution. But the question is are we ready to solve our problems facing us as a nation? I will start by saying that we have lots of people who are only interested in what they are getting from they country treasure without caring if the treasury is running dry or not they don't care. The mentality of an average Nigerian is ''my own and my generation''. You see public officials are building and buying mansions and exotic cars and piling up wealth for generations yet unborn just few months into office. You will see them come to the national Television and radio houses and make boast that they have what will sustain their generations up to ten generations yet unborn. So any other person that enter the position will like to do like that. Just imagine what Late Sani Abacha's wife said. She said no matter how poor she is that she can never be as poor as Dangote. And this is a woman that her husband was just the former head of state that looted this country and till tomorrow most of the husband's loots are still bein returned by different countries in the world.
For this country to work and not fail we have to tackle but not limited to the following

- INEC
- Leadership problem
- Insecurity
- Ethnicity challenge
- Religious Intolerance
- Nepotism
- Respect the Federal Character and Rule of Law
- Independence of the Judiciary
- A New Constitution to tackle the general problem facing the country.
- Death penalty for any public officials who is found guilty of corruption

Omo I know say Naija problems too plenty but we have to start somewhere. It is always said that Rom was not built in a day. If we decide say this country don tire us the way e dey go my brother things go change for good. I still believe say revolution is coming in this country. Because e get where you go push the masses reach and there is no more place to push them go again, my brother the masses go react. I still believe in this Country and I know say if we come together and realize say na the only country we get be this and decide to make it good my brother e go work. Of all the points listed above my brother na INEC I fear pass. E get why!!

Nigeria na project? Make ona no dey confuse person for grammar which one be project again? Anyways project or no project, Nigeria don fail as an economy, many reasons dey to prove Nigeria as a failed economy:
If naija no be project, wetin e be? You wan call am investment ? According to wetin Op tok say when we bin get independence, the plan nah to make the country dey amongst the developed countries and if that no be project, I no see wetin be o.
For the lecturer to tag am like that e mean say e don study how the country be and if I go drop my opinion, I go say naija nah still work in progress. Wetin make I yarn like dis? I still believe say the country get the ability to bring the naira to dollar rate back to #1=$1 and fix some of the issues wey dey trouble us like insecurity, poor education,  poor health facilities and even the judiciary system only if we allow a good leader wey go rule us. Corruption don eat at us sotey we don decide say nah the way to go be that but if we decide say enough is enough, we fit put in good leaders wey go change the status quo.

Many of us don lose hope in the country and as such don agree say no beta fit come out again and the best tin to do nah to Japa but if we kool down reason am, doz places wey we wan run go get their own yawa but why e come look like say them get hope pass us nah be say them put their foot down on some things. I know say that dream wey our founding fathers bin get wey make them struggle to ensure our independence go one day come to actuality, it's just a matter of when the citizens go decide say e don do.

Weather Nigeria na failed or unfailled project still no change the fact say we all be Nigerians and we dey part of am cos e dey our hands to decide wetin good for us. See our last Election, see the rigging and everything but still yet we no fit do anything to change am, no be to fly up and down dey go court omor I believe say e don burst pass dat level, even scripture go talk say from the days of old the kingdom sufferet violence and the violent once go take am by force. You can't tell me say one man because him feel say him get money go just come rub sand for our eyes, e no supposed be like dat Nigerians has enough multitude to pull am out from there, na just to remove religious diversity come together and kwa I believe say before we go see change for the country e suppose start from personal, Angel no go come down come rule wey go make the country better

Even though many people go want us to believe say everything dey fine and wetin dey happen to our country is the normal process wey other big nations follow, omo me I no agree with them lie lie to lai. I dey beat my chest to tell you say Nigeria na failed project. The amalgamation of Southern and Northern Nigeria by Lord Lugard in 1914 na the biggest tragedy wey done happen to humanity since the creation of the world. How can you bring two different people wey no fit agree for anything together; two different people wey them don use religion wash their head. Nigeria na big time failed experiment and I no sure say e go better for whoever bring the country together.

Wetin remain for the country again? Everything don scatter. The North and South no fit agree on anything. If North go left, South go chose right and the jamboree continues. Every institution don die, no one of them dey function at all.

The only people wey dey enjoy the country as e be like this na the elite wey don manage agree on how to share the national cake. To them, Nigeria just dey like their company that is making money for them, at the end they share their profits. Them no send weda the workers die or not.

The way things are going and are getting worst is because every sector is bad and I know for a new government to take over things won't be that easy but at least their should be signs of things getting better and their just to many flags of how u serious the government will always be no matter who is emerging has the president, all of them all they care about is the money they will get from their. And if it is about clue on how to rescue Nigeria how politicians know, it is just that they are self centered and the are blinded by money. And the solution would have been kicking them out but inec is corrupt so people that can provide the solution are behind the problem.

Does not change the fact that we are Nigerians but we can not continue this way, I know government can not solve all problems but at least they can do better than this. That is what annoys me the most, once we are not certified with any election results we should be able to reject and ask for reelection but after election no body is doing anything inec need  fumigation to bring out does parasites to justice. Sure one day people will no longer tolerate anything from the government again and all for the best of the country.

This topic was formed from a lecture discussion where the lecturer asked the question "is Nigeria a failed project?" And it made me wonder, if we had the solutions to our problems why isn't anybody working towards making the country better?

People like him are the kind of those that will always sit and fold their hands watching what's happening instead of making them happening, they want to see a better Nigeria but don't want to be among those to make it a better place, the moment we continue to have that kind of irresponsible mindset that always thinks about the government should be the ones responsible for every conditions the country is, then maybe we are failing already, because it all lies in our hands, one or few people cannot make the success alone, it has to be a collaborative effort of all.

I grew up knowing Nigerians as strong and always making considerable effort in getting what dey always want but it is no more that way.
Hoping on the Inec is now not even a better solution cos dey worth any price just offer dem money and you good. We the citizens are bigger than the government and it is left for us to stop this nonsense if not it will pass to our generation and might even get worst than this if dey refuse to do am calmly as the citizens dey plead make we try apply violence, no shading of blood tho but we get voice as Nigerians.
I still dey laugh people wey dey their house alone dey pray for this country to change where be say dey no dey add any effort even the least voting dem dey dulge their head, God dey mostly help those who apply effort to their prayers

Nigeria my country, sometimes to talk about the country dey tiring because no matter how much we brainstorm for its betterment, it just can't get better, it even keeps getting worse. Everyday we wake up to crazy news that in a normal world setting it's incomprehensible and impossible but naija don make am possible... Like how??? E jus be like say everybody dey trapped in pre hell, nothing is heard, no voice that yells is listened to, we're in our own punishment and we don't know how to get out.
The old guys don too jonz us. I really wish say unity fit dey and contentment because why people wey join hand to protest against bad governance con turn back against the people wey d thing dey hear more , then betray them because of greed? E jus be like say na only some certain people this country dey benefit and e no dey pass the circle. Na this kain thing dey cause unending sporty bet and yahoo, even crypto trading but the wicked hearted leaders no go gree boys get peace of mind. EFCC no go waste time raid boys wey dey try make end meet but Dem go investigate who be real thief so calmly. The country is a mess for now and e be like the mess go long.

My brother no be only you this country tire oo, we many when if say opportunity dey we for don match comot for this country, because wattin man eye dey see em mouth no go fit talk am, e come be like say na children our government dem dey handle with, this our country na one of the most blessed nation for this world, but that pride nor dey fit come out or showcase emself because of selfish leaders wey we get.
Just imaging wattin I see the day before yesterday for village, them bring palliative food come village for night, I been just dey one corner dey observe, before I know dem don send two boy to carry two bag of rice go another location wey no be there dem dey offloads the palliative dem, omor wen I see am em, na there e con really clear for my eye say the corruption don reach both the citizens dem. So for corruption to end for this country no go fit dey possible, because e don sink reach the heart of the country.

My brother, if you observe the rate of people wey dey leave this country now, you self go know and I know that you already know say the answer na yes.

If you check the book of lamentations, you go see Nigerians worries there. No electricity, no refinery and petrolatum products wey be the engine of the economy don sky rocket.

The worse be say all these dey happen for democratic government unlike in military, things still better then.

INEC don scatter everywhere, where people go vote finish dem go choose another person wey dem like, how things go better. See the governorship elections wey happen on 11/11/2023 for Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa na so so complain of over voting.
