The wrong here is the casino itself. If the scenario is that they posted the winner's information and identity without consent or approval from the winner, and the winner doesn't like that, then the winner has the right to sue the casino. But for instance, if the winner initiates for itself to be posted or he agrees to be posted, then it's his fault. What he does is wrong; it's not wrong to flex your winnings, but there are consequences. There are many people with wrong motives who could take advantage of the information they have, and of course, the life of the young man could be in danger. That's why it's better to keep it low-key at all times. No matter how much you earn, you should not announce it. Many people out there are greedy for money and can do anything just to get it, and committing crimes is not an exception. Well,  better luck for the winner.

I created this topic as a result of this news, a young Ghanaian man won 6,000,000 GHC ($501,664) with a bet of 40 GHC. This happened few days ago and it trended on social media. Some of the comments from netizens are that the young man should leave Ghana to avoid being robbed or poisoned.

I know some of us must have seen the formal presentation of a mega winner to the public by a gambling platform. Most times, these bookies invite media outlets to their offices to cover the ceremony, so that the news could be captured on newspapers, tv, internet etc. My questions are...  Can a bettor reject being unveiled to the public? Are gambling platforms paying an extra money for the publicity?

If there's on their terms that you need to do public representation then you are obligated to do that but if it's optional then you can opt not to do it in public, there's a risk involved in it but I believe he is not the only rich man in Ghana to have a threat to his life he can always hire a security agency to protect him or he can opt to make to deposit it in a bank in a form of time deposit and just have a specific monthly withdrawal and announce it to the public so the public will know that he doesn't have the money at hand and he is only getting a small portion for his need.
Or he can change his location since he already has all the money that he needs to do things there are a lot of options when you have a lot fo money in your hands.

Which country the guy belongs to is not all a big thing. When it comes to money, people need to be more cautious. Life is more important than money, and there are possible chances of life threat. Identity of such big wins shouldn't be revealed to the outer world. If it is of a popular person, it won't be a problem. When it is a common man, surely people will try to take advantage. This is kind of promotion for the platform, and they should also understand and provide security to the winners in such incidents.

Yeah, I have seen the big celebrations for jackpot winners before.  It can be quite the spectacle, right?  About your questions - I think it really depends.  Some platforms might make you do publicity.  Others let you stay anon and low-key.  And getting extra money to do interviews and stuff? That wouldnt shock me and  its good advertising for the casino or website or whatever.  Just imagine if someone hit it big.  That gets more people to come try their luck.  So yeah, handing over some extra cash to show off and share the story makes sense.

Actually, I had never thought about why would any lottery winner dare to show off their money and their face in public or in national Television. Obviously the lottery agency wants to attract more people to buy tickets from them and the way to do so is showing they actually pay and they do it big for those who are the most fortunate ones, so it makes sense to me they try to convince those winners with more money, though, keeping in mind the amount those lotteries winners already pocketed because their luck, the offers made by the agency needs to be a considerable fraction of the jackpot for them to even consider to get national highlight (mostly undesired).

If I happened to win half million in a lotelly, I would only show my face for 200k of more, not small fractions of the prize, like 5-10k$.

when people create accounts on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp and post photos of themselves showing off their houses, cars, clothes, places they've been to. Are these people not exposing themselves?

When people have a good job and post a photo, are they not exposing themselves?

When people have companies or businesses that give them good profits and these people appear on TV to give talks, are these people not exposing themselves?

When a person plays the lottery, does that person think that if they win the jackpot, their life will be the same? This person will live in hiding for how long?

When lottery organizers hide the winners, who will believe that someone actually wins the lottery?

In my opinion, lottery organizers should show the face of the winner, this should be in the TOS of the company organizing the lottery. If someone doesn't agree, then don't buy a lottery ticket, as this will keep your life peaceful and anonymous, that's as simple as that, now they keep posting a winner who doesn't show a face, so how are we going to have proof that someone is really winning the lottery?

every day hundreds of people buy lottery tickets in the hope that one day they will win, and it is necessary to show proof that there really are real winners so that all those people who spend time and money every day buying lottery tickets are not being made fools of. . I don't see anything wrong with publishing the name and face of the winner. It is up to people when they have money to hire security guards to protect them

That person is really lucky, I also envy him lol. btw, it is your right whether you are willing to be published or not, the aim is to avoid bad possibilities because winning from gambling with a very large amount will make many people jealous. If I am the winner then I will use privacy laws to avoid publication that might be required by the owner of the gambling business, I will fight hard and pay a great lawyer to help me win my rights, especially if I am in a country with a high level of poverty, the possibility that I will get into trouble because I win large amounts of gambling is really big.

It is by choice to come on air to broadcast such huge winnings, because one might become open to many scenario like theft or kidnapping in most cases after making a public presentation. It is to what end by the way? It's not like it is a habit agreeably commendable for the younger generation or siblings or children who look up to us to be better.

A mega winner can say no to public presentation for good reasons and it would not be a problem to those who don't know and do know.

Varies by the country but many places its not allowed and dangerous because of that imo.  I would certainly not want the attention personally, theres a top 10 unfortunate deaths after winning lotteries round up website and quite a few of them are either murder or manslaughter because strangers want a cut of the money afterwards.   Telling everyone someone's details in any way I find a terrible idea in terms of them finding peace with such a large life change.   Best thing for people to do for calm and serenity long term is to put the vast majority of the money into long term prospects like a house, health coverage and pension etc.

With what the winner did, he put not only himself but also his families in danger. Even if he wanted that to happen, from what I see, it seems like the winner wants him to have fame or popularity, so that's how it is, and I also see a bad attitude in the future or in the present.

We know that in this age, there are many thieves and evil-minded people who, when they know something like that, plan something bad. So I won't be surprised if, in a short time, we hear news about that winner that something bad happened. I hope it doesn't happen to him. If I am in the situation of the winner, I will not say it in public for the safety of not only my family but also mine.

Of course, he can choose not to, it is a violation of his right if he wins a huge amount because he bet on it not because he complied with the company's requirement he can go to court to protect his right not to show his identity because he has a valid reason and that is to protect himself and his family, here in our country lottery winners hide their faces to the public and the company complied to the government privacy law, so if on Ghana there is a law about privacy then he can invoke his rights to a privacy.
Privacy is a concern of every citizen in every country and companies should honor the request of their winners to protect their lives and property, it is enough that they announce there is a winner and it should be verified by the government agency that oversees this.

Yes, I agree with you, if we have won then it would be much better if we didn't tell anyone because we won't know the people who have evil values in us and when they find out that we have a lot of money, we will of course try to control what we have. we have and this will not be a good thing for us.

I've seen news of people who went to these publicity events fully dressed up, so as not to be recognized by their families. source here

I believe that everything depends on the T&C of each service (lottery/gambling), some require the winner to attend the publicity event in person (obviously this is to generate marketing for the company), others do not have any such requirement, just a KYC which is kept confidential between the company and the winner.

In any case, you need to analyze the terms of each service, if you are forced to go, I think the option of going in costume is a good option.

Ofcourse! Theyre consent should be asked before anything else. Tho practices may vary among gambling platforms, bettors typically have the option to decline public unveiling. Privacy concerns are taken into consideration and individuals may choose to keep their winnings confidential. But you know we have this terms and conditions that we agree with before we actually start betting, maybe publicizing the winners is part of that. if that's the case, then you agree with it. Also im some cases, gambling platforms may offer incentives or additional perks for public exposure, but this varies, and not all bettors want public visibility.

Make it public without the face and the name. But I doubt the people will believe that. They always want to see a face whenever a big winner has done it.
But the winner himself should have that option if he doesn't want to go public for his own security. It should be everyone's right to do so and should not be mandatory to put him in the news just so these gambling sites can say they are real and give away such amounts in prizes. There are other ways to do that or perhaps after the winner has secured all his winnings then he can come out and prove that it is real. It should not be when he wins the prize because his life will surely be in danger not just him, but maybe his family too and use it for ransom.
They should pay extra if they will force a gambler to do it because he will be the one who will be in danger and not the gambling site.

May of us like this kind of introverts lifestyle while some of us are acquainted with the extrovert kind of lifestyle, we just these things to be happy. I would like some privacy if I happen to be the mega winniner in the casino space, earning such hugh winnings in the game, ofcourse we deserved recognition but I prefer to be made anonymous because the world we live in today is a wicked one and surviving is winning in all rounds. A mega will definitely become prey for the predators that would surround just to ensure things don't go smoothly for him.

It depends on where you live aka your country public disclosure law also the platform/company terms regarding the winners identities.
Some companies definitely wants to announce the winners in public to show that they are fair and the winners are real.
Its a good promo to lure new user.

I dont think he will be able to stay anonymous in Ghana, so he must be think smart on how to protect himself and the money after receiving the prize.

And eventually, the winner now goes home sleeping with one eye open because he has just been shown to the world that he has won millions making him a possible subject of attack. by anyone. IMO if a bet company want to prove that they are fair and winners are real there are better measures to use in giving these testimonies that should also be in the best interest of the winner security-wise too and not just after their own company's interest to prove a point.

On the account that a gambler won such huge sum shouldn't mean he has to start watching his back when he should be in a calm state of mind enjoying and reflecting on how to invest his millions he rather be using a part of that time and money for his security. All thanks to the the bet company.

Does it really be the outcome after he won a huge amount of money. The guy already has enough money to get a security to take care of him and his family. There's nothing to worry about it as long as he hires enough men, and he won't appear in public easily. Or do the other option such as moving to another city or going out of the country.

Aside from using his fortune to their own security, it would be better to hire a financial advisor. It's a great help for someone who does not enough knowledge on how to handle a large sum of money, whether where they can invest it or what business they can build.

Of course, they can say no to public presentations. Because financial matters are something that is personal to someone, if he or she wins the mega or grand prize, then that's a matter of public curiosity and trending or viral news for everyone. But the reality is, it depends on them whether they want or don't want to reveal their identity to the public. Because only that person knows what consequences I should face after this turning point in my life. It depends on person to person, their past life, their friends and relatives, and the social conditions they live in. After that huge winning day, we totally forgot about that person and his life. For us, it's just cover-up news, but it's his life, and that's what matters most. In my opinion, we can't just ignore his opinion or his privacy or safety for a "hashtag trend."

Not everyone loves to live outside their country, it's a luxury they don't fancy that much and moreso, there are dozens of millionaires in the country that have double of the amount the gambler won but are living their normal lives without security because their private life is kept private from public presentation, therefore the issue of the gambler hiring security doesn't justify anything or did he won the money to be using it to hire security guards and how much longer do you think the money will serve if he has to be paying for security for himself and family?

Hiring a financial advisor will definitely be resourceful to him to guide on how and where he can invest that money into because many gamblers has lavished their huge wins that could have been used in turning their life for the better on luxuries and wasteful spending exhausting them back to square one as a result of lack of assistance from financial advisor.
