Justice system in the Philippines is rubbish, if you are innocent and get jailed I think if the opposition is rich and hired a good lawyer then good luck you might end up suffering long long years of prison before proven innocent. Nine years is a long time but this gambler will now enjoy his labour. $217,000 is a lot of money in the Philippines and I am sure he will still have a substantial amount after paying his bills that can make him live a good life for a greater part of his life if the win is well utilized.

However, what irks me about this story is that it took them a delay of 9 years to reach a decision on such a simple case. Considering it's a government agency involved, you'd think they could have expedited the investigation.

The time is reasonable if we look at the process.
- The Regional Trial Court ruled in favor of the bettor but the PCSO appealed and brought it to the Court of Appeals.
- The Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the RTC but the PCSO still not convinced so they went to the highest court.
- The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the two lower courts.

The PCSO have all the resources so they exercised all their legal options and that's why it took a total of 9 years to come to a decision with finality. That means there will be no more appeals.

I totally get the legal process, but if we had a similar case like this in our countries, I doubt it would take even close to 5 years before the final decision is released. I understand that the Supreme Court is the highest court in the Philippines, and its decisions are final and can't be appealed. However, waiting for 9 years, in my opinion, is still way too long.

That's how the system works if you don't have that money and right people to help you, it will b quicker if you knew someone who have higher authority or if that person use socia media to create attentions, the process might be speed up since the court don't want any negative criticizm and for sure there are many so called righteous people who will ride with this case to help speeding up the process.

But since the winner patiently waits and continues to follow that so called legal process, it took him 9 years before he could finally enjoy the money that he deserves.

It appears that the PCSO is unwilling to assist the winner, despite him having all the necessary evidence to prove his win. While I understand that it's a substantial amount of money, the PCSO generates significant daily revenue from the lottery. It would be more than fair to award the rightful winner, not only as a matter of justice but also to inspire bettors who consistently place bets in the hopes of winning the jackpot prize one day.

The management will always find its way to make profit even if that means disqualifying/ delaying someone if there are any problems. It is a business still even if it is affiliated with the government. Unfortunately, what happened became frustrating for the winner; imagine being one but an accident happened which risked his eligibility of the prize. But I cannot see paying only a portion as an option for the lottery; it is just whether they could recieve the prize or not. If they are making a consideration then what's the use of giving just a percentage of it. And if they won't really release it then it would leave a statement to their general rules which should be reflected on the next potential winners.

It's only natural that this person fights for his rights. Twelve million pesos is a large amount of money that he bet in the hope of winning and in the end he can win it and it may also be a once in a lifetime luck so he deserves to fight for it even if he has to wait for 9 years but at least his struggle It's not in vain that he can claim his prize happily. I'm not sure if this case dragged on for so long because it was not possible to prove the authenticity of the winning ticket or if there really was a lack of will and effort to recognize the winning ticket by other means.

Here in my country the law is very clear: the winning ticket cannot have erasures, tears or any defect that prevents the recognition of all the registered bet information. This is enough to result in the loss of a case for anyone trying to take legal action against the Brazilian lottery.

Anyway... apart from this case of "merit", I see that this bettor was indeed very persistent and audacious in betting a lot of what he still had in the hope of being able to win this case.
I'm happy for him and I hope he can make up for every penny and lost time, because 9 years of waiting is a long time.

Maybe what you said there is true that he is only fighting for his rights, and the prize isn't really that important. If you have won a significantly high amount and you know that only a small percentage of that will be the cost of doing a case and trying to prove that you are the winner then I guess it's obviously worth it because if you get the money at the end of the day, you will have your life changed if the amount is life-changing for you.

However, if the reward isn't high enough and you might even have to spend about 50% of the total reward in all these expenses then I guess it's not worth the running here and there and attending all the hearings and stuff because even if you manage to win the case, you won't be getting much out of it.

The price is quite huge for an average individual who hasn't figured it all out yet so I will say it's really worth it because that money will goa long way to help him fix certain things and I feel it will definitely be enough to cover up for all the damages incurred in cause of the fight.

Honestly nine years was really along wait and it did took a different kind of patience to still be on the case but the end did justified the means, it was really worth the wait and fight, personally I would fight for my prize but honestly how long I will stay in the fight is one thing I can't really tell for now but then the amount was worth the fight and the six percent he is to receive annually is a plus which adds up to still be a fair enough deal.

I think the gambler had really done a good and endurance race to fight against the company that decided not to give him his winning because he's ticket got damaged. This should not be a reason why they would deprived him of his right to get his lottery winning since he won and they supposed to have the details in there system so why would they decided not to pay him his winning which is what he was dragging in the court for many years and it is so fortunate for him after winning the court case. Following up a case, isn't simple and the long duration it took him to win, describe the man as a never say never type of person. I've read lots of gamblers attesting to the strong persistence of the man. With the look of things, he's not alone, but many gamblers would have given up the funds long ago. I've seen cases worse than this before and it doesn't go down well with the person involved as they won't give a dime out without the tickets.. sometimes, it's done on purpose just so the casino would have a cut innit.

It's ok to fight back for your money to claim it as long as you have every enough evidence needed to win the case, also the financial demands needed as well to win it, if you don't have money, your rights may be forfeited after being taken by other's, but to be realistic, 9 months, but having money to that extent and for that long with them is too risky to get it back from them, but as the legal actions have the right to fight against every injustice, all those involved will have to split their own share back to the owner.

If I had a legal leg to stand on I mean yeah.  Now 9 years is long but well worth it in the end if you end up getting a quarter million usd.  And besides unclaimed lottery just ends up 100% in the hands of politicians and I would imagine end up being "misallocated" in a lot of countries.  But yeah definitely worth a fight if anyone owes you money.

I managed to win P200k in 6/49 a few years back, and received P105k in lump sum when I claimed the money. It took me a week to do all of this, and the verification process only took a few minutes on the main office. It was hassle-free on my experience, but definitely kind of anxiety-inducing because there are small creases on my ticket when I submitted it for validation.

As for the case of this man, they could easily get away with the crumple as they can easily contest the content of the ticket. Placing it under a cloth and ironing it is a bad idea because the ink will just get smudged and will damage the ticket even further. They could have saved a lot of time and money had they avoided ironing it out, but at least they got it done. I'm guessing they spent 30-50% of the winning amount for legal fees and the in-betweens, and that is still worth it considering they can afford to buy a lot and start building their home from scratch.

If I was in their position, I'd probably not have the mental fortitude and resolve to continue with the battle. 9 years is a long time, and the amount of anxiety and frustration it builds up is just unimaginable.
