Not many star players left in the test team barring Rohit and Kohli.

Both of them look dead weight atm but I believe Kohli will get another run in the next series, possibly the England tour which is our next 5 test match away series and scheduled for later in July. Rohit is finished but there might be a slight possibility that he gets in, not on merits but on PR lobby and the reason would be he's nurturing and guiding the next possible captain (Pant would be a big candidate for Test captaincy). Whatever happens. Rohit will be replaced this year.

Gill had a dream debut in Australia (2021) but for some reason, he became mid tier player. He's still scoring enough runs in India tho but his numbers are not improving in SENA which is a bit of a worry but he's young and BCCI has invested in him heavily and hopes he delivers in the next 2-3 year cycle. If not, then he will become the next KL Rahul, a generational talent with a mediocre test career, it would be sad tbh because he is indeed a talented guy.

KL is our best player in SENA conditions so he still got his time in test format and in my opinion he would be the ideal opener along with Jaiswal to bring the left-right and class with agressive batting combination that we have't seen for the past couple of years.

Yeah, his SENA numbers went down the drain but management is backing him and IMO for the right reasons. Regarding KL, I'd suggest not to cloud your judgment on the last 3-4 matches. He did well but he ruined his reputation and was given a very long rope (Close to 60 tests and still averaging in mid 30s), that's why I said hope, Gill doesn't walk on the same path as KL.

On top of that, we don't need his services at home regularly so we can't have a temp captain whenever he misses the match. If he's playing every test match then it's a different scenario but comes with a risk of injury.

Yeah, he played a full home (5 tests) season and then went to play 5 tests on the trot in Australia and what happened after?

In the last test match, His body gave up due to back spasm, As a result, he couldn't bowl in the 4th inning. He's still recovering, hope he gets better before the Champions Trophy kicks in. Otherwise, we are kinda fucked.

Both of them and selectors deserve credit for picking up an extra spinner in the squad. KKR quota  Chakarvorty was a game changer and made a massive impact.

It would've been epic if we had won the 2023 ODI final as well, but Aussies were a better team on that particular day and that's how the game goes. After that, we end up winning back to back 2 ICC trophies in style, so all good.

IMO he should've retired from the ODI on a high note and he could've passed the baton to the next generation similar to the T20 WC, but retiring voluntarily is not the norm in Indian cricket. Age factor and fitness will play a part in 2027 WC and I hope things don't get ugly between him and management.

I'm not sure about Rutu, but Jaiswal is desperately waiting on the sidelines. Kid has proved himself in T20 and Test format, so everyone is excited about his ODI debut.

Management also knows this and I am certain that discussions are in progress behind closed doors. In white ball cricket, India looks in a solid position at least for 5-6 years even if the likes of Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja retire because bench strength is amazing, hope they add 1-2 more silverware in the cabinet.

Regarding Brook's latest stunt, the IPL introduced a new rule of a two-year ban and mandatory registration in the mega auction for this reason only. English players used to do that regularly (in case of low bid), and foreign players (it was a loophole and their manager exploited this nicely) used to skip the mega auction only to come back in the normal auction just to inflate their price without any consequences. Now, there is a penalty for such act, and rightly so.

Surprisingly bowling seems to be doing alright job but main problem will be number 3 slot and tail. Nair wasted 6 innings and not sure if he gives any confidence at number 3. Same goes with Sai. I am thinking of one gamble here, what if Gauti brings washi at number 3 and include Jurel (in place of Nair) at lower middle order? Risky call but it's not like they have any winning combination or another dravid/Puji kind of player knocking the door for number 3 position.
