Supposedly the leaked paper describing the Q project from Open AI describes a training model cracking the AES 192 encryption very fast. Using "new math"

Video Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d0kk88IE8c

Thoughts? If true, that means huge implications for encryption and the bitcoin network.

Well wearing a star trek shirt to give the pod cast was an interesting choice.

Some interesting ideas not sure how concrete it all is.

LOL True. I guess im trying to wrap my head around the idea of "New Math"

I guess if you read enough math text books, maybe you could see a new pattern emerge?

If that's the case, big IF, then Bitcoin will need a hard fork soon. I wonder if any of the DEV are working on this already?

If it really invented a superior math that easily and rapidly solves 192 crypto it is likely the entire world is fucked.

All computer stored info would be viewable.

Your new setups would all need to be fully decoupled to be safe.

"fully decoupled" Meaning if you had an Air Gapped bitcoin hardware wallet, this ai wouldn't even have the opportunity to try and crack your wallet?

Is this like the guy who claimed to crack RSA 2048 but then it turned out to be just papers and theory?

Besides, I don't know how they managed to get any work done over the last few days while they were busy kicking out Altman and then begging for him to come back (and then dealing with all the employees who left / threatened to leave)?

In theory, yes, but if AES256 and a bunch of other crypto algorithms are broken, then disconnecting will not matter, since every private key in the world could be calculated.

Yeah if it really is that good. Crypto would die.  as every wallet would be empty since every seed would be cracked.

By fully air gapped in this future world no internet would exist other than a possible tv video internet.

As news would be fake news since all video and or audio can be deep fakes.

You could have a stand alone laptop that does not have wifi or any connectivity of any kind.  it could print to a printer that only connects with an eth cable.  you could give it to a messenger that hand delivers it to some one that needs it and he or she could scan it into their laptop via their scanner printer.

100% BS. Just clickbait at best. Give the video a thumbs down and move on.
As stated above, if it were true then all things encrypted would be screwed and crypto would be the least of our problems.

Math does not change because someone wants it to.

Nope, and let me add this point. Every legitimate math person publishes and does a lot of peer review and discussion.
Nothing important would ever be on youtube before it's been reviewed, torn apart, and redone in a legitimate math journal.

But you do what works for you. I'll be over here in reality.

I don't want it to be true, and I am very skeptical. I want to see the actual mathematical proof. "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

IT'S A TROLL. go sleep with ease of mind, researchers are working in peaceful environments 24/7 to keep us all safe.

What's the plan anyways D? Has anyone come up with one or they were dismissed as a troll?

You don't need AI for this, math can be manipulated, like this :

No new invention, used already existing tools, do a double 256 on them, now imagine we could get a 32 leading 0 checksum.  This is old math, with new math you can solve anything you want, you just need to work hard and find it first. No worries though, D is here to protect us from trolls.

For those who don't like videos I think it might by based on this "leak":

https://www.reddit.com/r/singularity/comments/1824o9c/is_this_leaked_explanation_of_what_ilya_saw_real/

I also think it's BS, but let's speculate a bit Smiley

Regarding what algorithms could be cracked (by AI/LLMs/deep learning), I think it depends heavily which kinds of mathematical theories are used. As far as I'm aware how LLMs work, they're basically a "statistical summary of all (or many) books/publications in the world". So let's hypothesize that two widely unknown scientists (e.g. from countries not very prolific in math research, ignored by others) were close to break AES (or any other algorithm) using mathematical theories that complement each other, then the AI algorithm in theory could perhaps find a connection between both and crack it "combining" both.

Very dumb (ELI3 or so Wink ) example:

- We have an encryption algorithm that subtitutes each character of a text by the one that follows in the (Latin) alphabet, and then replaced by another one in a Japanese (or Chinese, or whatever) script, but the way it works is not known to anyone.
- One article published in Suriname in 1988 and long forgotten sustains the theory that the algorithm substitutes a Latin character by a Japanese one
- The other book published in Malawi as a master thesis in 2013 sustains the theory that the algorithm substitutes a Latin character by another Latin character (or another one of the same script, at least)
- The AI knows both books (something no human has done because nobody knows the complete mathematical research of Suriname and Malawi, and few would use publications from such different years) combines both methods and finds the correct way to crack the algo.

So I don't consider the approach to crack an encryption algo with the help of a LLM impossible.

The Reddit thread claims the algo used "Tau analysis" in a way a "Project TUNDRA" was expected to work. No idea what that means, (superficial) Googling is not of help here. That only strengthens the BS hypothesis Wink

Edit: At least the "TUNDRA" thing wasn't arbitrarily chosen, it seems to reference a NSA project described here.

When he eats dinner on these then I'll give points.
And yes, they are mine and yes I use them.

And if you care the forks and spoons are from Quarks from Deep Space 9.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjohkkNM4hc&t=100s

The steak knife is from Ikea.

But seriously, when people just put things like that video out it's just crap.
Goes in the same pile as the carburetor that could get 100mpg in a 1978 Buick.

As with all things in science & math show your work and let people reproduce it. Otherwise you are just saying things without proof.
Let other people dig into it and see what works and what does not. That is how its done.

Before you post more unrelated large images, let me put your mind at ease.  AES encryption secure or broken, does not relate to Bitcoin keys,  blockchain.  No need to panic, if there is a way to break AES, there is also a way to make a new algo.  It works the same as bulletproof vests, for different rounds, exist different layers of protection.

100% BS. Just clickbait at best. Give the video a thumbs down and move on.
As stated above, if it were true then all things encrypted would be screwed and crypto would be the least of our problems.

Math does not change because someone wants it to.

No points for the star trek blazer?

When he eats dinner on these then I'll give points.
And yes, they are mine and yes I use them.

And if you care the forks and spoons are from Quarks from Deep Space 9.

I owned a delta 88 v-8 it could do 19 mpg on the highway and the trunk could fit 20 that is right 20 five gallon cans of paint.
