Hey guys!

I was so elated to receive a call from the SSG (Secretary to the State Government) of Niger State almost a week ago after we've all waited anxiously for a response from the state government following the letter we submitted two months ago about "Introducing The Bitcoin Technology Into Our Secondary Schools Curriculum as a Trade Subject".

Although I have traveled out of town and could not make it there physically, I sent my team members to represent me at the meeting with the SSG.

The SSG received my delegates at his office on Tuesday, 5th to give them a brief of the discussions they have with the governor and their resolution.

See Image Here

Prominent in all the discussions they had was the aspect where the SSG mentioned to them that although they are ambitious about the new evolution inbuilt in the digital world, the fintech and the digital currency, they are still xraying the advancement aspect and are desirous of the very positive results the state is interested in especially as it resonates with their agenda.

He then issued the letter dated December , 4th to to my delegates as an official reply to our demand on the adoption of bitcoin technology and request that we remain patient while the government employ the necessary human resources to acqualize this ambitious dream.

My delegates were very happy about this development while I requested that they scan the letter and send to me.

Below is a reciept of the scanned copy of the official response from the SSG.

Page 2

I am most gracious right now to update the forum on this new development and hope to continue to push this project until there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you to the members of this forum that have kept on following up on my earlier thread for updates, I am glad that I have a response for you now.

Hey congratulations for what you have achieved, man. Despite the difficulties placed by the central government in Nigeria, or I do not know if thanks to them, I see many people in the forum very active with initiatives to normalize and popularize the Bitcoin. Receiving such recognition in the state of Niger is not a minor issue.

A question for those who do not know the area: I imagine that Niger state, part of Nigeria, is completely different from Niger country? I guess if they share name is because of the river.

I did not read your last topic but you really have made a success here, I am really happy, because I came to know the condition of those who have adopted the crypto and how they are treated when get caught by the authorities. For that member who was on a routine checking of a bus was held by police and then asked forced by police to send them $1000 dollars when they saw crypto apps on his phone. That's really scary but I think this step will take you all from the dark cave which you are talking about.

I hope this will work out for you all and crypto will be legalized in your place. I am happy for you, keep it up dear. Things will change for crypto adopters.

You do an extraordinary job and not many of us are capable of doing that at the government level. this way you can more easily provide many new opportunities especially encouraging the younger generation to know all the benefits. However in my opinion this will be a big responsibility because the government also wants control that can provide positive feedback. Hopefully your struggle can produce the expected results.  This action is certainly considered  brave because we usually avoid government matters  when it comes to bitcoin. You know for yourself our ownership does not want to be kissed and taxed. Haha

I would be very happy if  there is any new news that you can share here the government there is definitely considering many things because this will involve the freedom sector.

The first time I heard about Niger was after the military coup a few weeks ago, which was followed by an attempt by them to remove the French role in controlling the aspects of the state, especially uranium. Therefore, I did not think that they would be open to discussing issues such as blockchain or teaching Bitcoin to children. Will this decision include the entire country or a group? Specific schools or how will it be included in the educational curricula? Because including such things in our educational curricula takes an average of 5 years and 3 years before it is approved, as the curriculum is amended every 5 years.

The first time I heard about Niger was after the military coup a few weeks ago, which was followed by an attempt by them to remove the French role in controlling the aspects of the state, especially uranium.

That was in the Republic of Niger, not in the State of Niger, which is part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is what the OP is talking about.

You do an extraordinary job and not many of us are capable of doing that at the government level. this way you can more easily provide many new opportunities especially encouraging the younger generation to know all the benefits.

Yes, I wish we had more people on the forum capable of contacting politicians to promote measures to raise awareness of bitcoin. It is only one step from there to favouring other types of measures, such as favourable measures for commercial trade in cryptocurrencies.

Congrats and keep pushing for it in your government to adopt Bitcoin and who knows, maybe your country will be the next one to make it legalized?

So best wishes, I know it's going to be a tough road for you and others in Niger, but as you have said, there is light at the end of the tunnel and keep striving. I remember India as well, wherein there are several bitcoiners trying also to push it in the last 3-4 years as well.

I wouldn't have known that you were referring to a Nigerian state if not for the image attached, and you might still want to let the body of the message reflect the same.

This will be a very good turn of events in Nigeria if the news is true. But I still wonder how the governor would do this since it would amount to a conflict of interest between the state government and CBN. As we all know, the CBN has banned all banks and financial institutions from associating with crypto dealing or anyone dealing with it. Perhaps this new CBN government would do the right thing this time.

And if the Niger state's plan is well done, then it would be a very great relief for Nigerians to do everything crypto openly with banks and others. Although they are doing it shortly after the heat of the latest ban, still, when a state government is involved, it would be a further development for everyone.

Congratulations, that's a very good news, tho I believe there will some tricky stuff when a government adopt cryptocurrency, they will need to make a suitable policy that can both cover the interest of crypto enthusiast and common people. I mean that the policy should not too strict for crypto enthusiast to actually 'enjoying' their crypto, and not too loose for common people to fall into crypto scam.

I wouldn't have known that you were referring to a Nigerian state if not for the image attached, and you might still want to let the body of the

Niger and Nigeria is not the same country, if OP wrote Niger and what he meant is Nigeria then he is wrong, Niger is a whole different country not Nigeria.

It's nice to see that an individual state is seeing the potential of Bitcoin though the central government hasn't really supported Bitcoin. It will be good for the citizens of the state and I hope that this doesn't turn out to be a government propaganda as usual.

Congratulations ibaba for this great achievement. I followed your previous topic where you talked about your visit to your state governor concerning a proposal to integrate bitcoin in the secondary school curriculum. I'm a little bit curious, based on the position of Nigerian government on cryptocurrency, news like shouldn't be just a closed door meeting with handshakes. I'd would expect it to be captured by the media but so far there's no such news on the internet. Perhaps, we'll get to know more later.

This is fantastic news! I have been keeping an eye on your previous thread for any updates on the movement you have chosen to start. We value your efforts and hope that this development will lead to more advancements in bitcoin around the nation, not just in Niger State. In order to evaluate public opinion, it would be wonderful to see a headline about this plan that details how the Niger state government is approaching it.

If the Niger State government approves bitcoin even if it isn't yet officially allowed in the nation, won't it cause problems or confusion? Does this imply that Niger State residents will be the only ones able to freely adopt Bitcoin?

We have to consider the State of affairs in Nigeria over bitcoin adoption as the first and foremost thing to consider, the Nigerian government is yet to publicly announce or accept the use of bitcoin, it could be recalled that this same bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were banned from their commercial banks sometimes last year, they were only aware that people are into bitcoin but not changing their stand yet concerning bitcoin adoption for public use, so if you're doing this OP, know it's at your own risk.

The Nigerian government hasn’t made any official statement about the legality of the use of Bitcoin in the country but their recent actions show that there is no reason to worry about a ban. In 2021, the central bank of Nigeria instructed financial institutions to freeze accounts connected to crypto transactions. Despite the restrictions, p2p in Nigeria hit all time high that year. Nigerians are free spirited, it will be extremely difficult for the government to come after Bitcoin holders. “In May 28, 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari signs the 2023 finance bill into law. The law introduces a 10 percent taxation of gains on the disposal of digital assets including cryptocurrency.”

I have not heard heard this news before and if it is true, I will be very happy because from one state it will be migrateed to another state but what baffled me is that how possible one regional state adopt Bitcoin when the Federal Government ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN to stopped all transactions with Bitcoin and it co ecosystem colleagues.

Well I will not say too much until I find our the legit news. And that means I am going to make some rigorous finding on this matter. Because this issue concerned the nation. Because through this way the National Government cam adopt Bitcoin.

Haha, “cool” photography, you even had to cover the guy on the banner hahaha. Anyways, I do remember your previous post you speak of, and all I can say is that you are doing a really great job. I am wowed and impressed that your government was able to see and understand the benefits of this move and even went ahead to add it as a subject. I’ve never heard this and this may be the first to happen in Africa. Hopefully other states in your country Nigeria can follow and eventually other African countries can also do this.

Congratulations on the positive development of you plan of adopting Bitcoin in your place.  Although it is not on its final state, it is a good thing to know that your government is inclined to adopt Bitcoin a s a trade subject.  If implemented this will give freedom for everyone in your place to engage in Bitcoin trading, and obviously, this will give a huge boost to the Bitcoin industry in your place.  This might elevate the status of living of people who are engaged in Bitcoin trading because they will have the freedom to engage in bitcoin trading without any worries thus bitcoin trading activity will surely flourish.

I am waiting for the final decision on this matter and I believe that your goal will push through.

I am most gracious right now to update the forum on this new development and hope to continue to push this project until there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you to the members of this forum that have kept on following up on my earlier thread for updates, I am glad that I have a response for you now.
Congratulations to you on your positive response from the SSG of Niger State Government, as It is indeed a thing of joy that through your team, a set of college students will be given the privilege to have an insight about Bitcoin from an early stage, which is one thing likely to drive passion about digital skills as we journey through this digital era. So on that note, I will like to urge you that if in case you happen to find anything challenging, please do not forget to bring such case to the bitcointalk family, as we are always ready to assist you in the best way we could. Thank you

I think it's a welcome development which is geared towards exposing secondary school or college students to
the basics of how to use Bitcoin and with the practical aspect of using it via mobile phones, though it is going to take a lot of effort to retrain the teachers who are to teach these students this particular trade subject and I hope the primary purpose is to teach the students how to perform transactions not how to trade Bitcoin which might be a little bit complex to them and I hope the Niger State government would give total financial support in term of retraining Secondary teachers who are to impart the Bitcoin knowledge their students.
