Although you idea of investing in btc is admirable as there is no other coins which could be considered safe, long term and high liquidity. You could start with 50$ and then whenever you think you have some extra fund you should increase you add them with it. Your friend gives you a good suggestion and your investment will pay off in the future.

The problem with this investment is that it's such a low amount that it's a hard time for OP to hodl it for a long time because there's always that possibility that there's no follow up investment to this and that OP is going will be discouraged at how small the amount in bitcoin it is, maybe if this is a consistent $50 bitcoin investment I would say that it could work fine but if it's not then OP would need to wait for a really long time for the profit of this $50 bitcoin grow into something profitable.

I think doing the DCA is a more appropriate option for those who do not have a lot of funds to invest all at once.
