Yeah, I think the more time you spend gambling, the bigger the chance you end up in the hole.  To try and prevent that, maybe set an alarm or something so you don't lose track of time.  That way you can stay focused and not make stupid bets just cause you're bored.  Also probably smart to decide how much cash you're willing to part with before you even start and  that way you dont blow more money than you were planning and end up regretting the whole thing.

It's not always as simple as "the less time you spend on something, the better". The time spent should be adequate to the potential winning.
