I've been pondering this question for a little now since I would like to contribute to the forums and provide interesting topics as well as explore the website and eventually rank up here.

How long would it take for someone who contributes often to get to this "Hero rank?"

How about average users who don't often contribute? How long would it take for them to achieve the role? Any estimates?

You can find the time here[1] but then, of course, you would also need to earn merits so the time below doesn't consider that as it all depends on the quality of your posts. If you were to get the merits before getting the needed activity points to upgrade, you wouldn't need any extra time.

For someone who contributes meaningful regularly to the forum which means the member earns the required merit meant for each rank then a default time of 490 days is ok to achieve the activity meant for an hero member rank. But for someone who doesn’t contribute to the forum regularly then it will take an un estimated time to get ti that rank because even if the rank activity target is meant then without the required number of the merits (500 for Hero member) the rank wouldn’t be achieved.

This is one of the reason why the merit system was even enacted to reduce the number of members growing in ranks without contributing meaningfully to the forum.

ranking up in the forum is a testament that you have been an active member of the forum that has positively affected the forum through referring of your wealth of experience and insight into the discussions in the forum. If you give more contributions through your meaningful post and replies, you will easily rank up to whatever level you are aspiring to within the shortest possible time.

Ranking up isn't a function of how long you've started in the forum. Their are members that will achieve a snr member within three months of joining the forum while some might even take a year plus just to attain that height, try difference is that one is an active member of the forum that is sharing his positive insight with the board while the other might not be all that active.

One thing I have also learnt about the forum with regard to growing in rank is that one need to continue engaging in post that he is knowledgeable about if you have an answer to a question that is being asked in the forum don't close your mouth and allow it pass you by, say something and when the time comes, you will get rewarded.

But if you decide to attain any height in the forum and you put in the needed effort, it won't take time before you attain that height.

 Just as the other have added, it takes dedication and determination to get you to your desired rank. For me, I usually tell newbies to not always be conscious of what they'd get when they make posts or contribute because it may deter them if their expectations are not met(i.e merits). Once you look at the forum as a place to quickly rank up so you can join a sig campaign alone, you'd get discouraged when you are not getting the required merits. A user said it would take a default time if 490 days to get to that rank but I feel it could be less than that. I've seen some users who thanks to how contributory they are in the forum get merited for most of their works.
 Bottom line is, try not to put getting merits as the main focus so that even on the days you don't get it, you won't get bored or lose interest.

If you're a decent user who at least receives 1 merit a day on average, you'll reach hero member the moment you get enough Activity Points(480) for hero member. It's honestly not really hard. It's just hard if you don't know much about this industry(and that you're not genuinely interested) and you're just here solely to make money.

If any members contribute best enough, providing worthy posts the he will get more Merits. Now only quota remain is activity which will count 14 in two weeks which mean if newbie contribute well then almost 500 days(1 years and four months) required for achieving hero rank. This estimate is only when Member posts attract other members especially Merit source which will result in more Merit than activity.

I think 95% or may me more than this users are not contributing and just signups for participating in bounty. You can see bounty section and you will know well what is going on there. BTW you need to increase your contribution and I hope you will get hero rank soon

In my case, I really started posting on the forum in November 2022. Before that date, I only had a few posts (about ~50, I think) and no more than 5-10 merits.
I've got about +1,200 merits since then, so it took me ~9-10 months to become Hero Member. I had enough merits too early, I missed some good activity points when I was still Sr.
Without activity it would have taken less time.

The hardest part isn't to get merits, but it's to gain activity.
I never post for quota or volume, but I do post a lot (often between 30 and 50 posts a week since I've been really active). But it's hard to get activity up, 14 by 14 is slow... (not complaining, I like the fact that to rank up takes some time)

I'll try to take an example with your account, which was registered on the forum on October 23, 2023.

480 Activity and 500 Merit are required to reach the Hero level (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0).

Suppose you are consistently active and get the minimum merit for Hero rank. In that case, it is estimated that you can reach Hero rank around February 19, 2025 (referring to the BTCtalk Activity times created by jambola2). cmiiw

Even if you have a lot of merit but the number of activities is not met, you will not be ranked Hero, based on the current ranking system rules on Bitcointalk.

How long would it take for someone who contributes often to get to this "Hero rank?"

How about average users who don't often contribute? How long would it take for them to achieve the role? Any estimates?

I think all those who you saw here started from scratch before making it to the top. Just like a new born baby will undergo growing up process like crawling, standing before walking. Life is a gradual process so what you seak you shall find. But talking about how long to achieve that, is by making meaningful contribution. People will see the good post you make and merit it. If you are lucky to receive frequent merit, you might meet up to Target. but I think you are too early for what you are thinking of. You didn't even think of Ranking up to Jr member or member or even full member, but sudjesting hero member. Well it's up to you. Since you have join the forum I think you will take a glance of it. Action speaks louder than voice.

If I'm correct it'll take more than a year to reach hero (Counting only activity, merit depends entirely on that person).

For hero we need around 500 activity. We get 14 activity point in 14 days. So for 500 activity the time it will take is +- 500 days.

If I say for myself, I have started posting on August 2023, I have 211 merit and 168 activity (Not even half of 500). So in 5 months I was able to get only 168 activity. If I can keep this up, I'll take me another year to reach my 500 activity. Long days ahead.

As other users have explained, 490 days is the normal time required for users who actively contribute to the forum. However, very few members can take advantage of the 490 day figure, most members need a relatively long time to reach Hero member rank.
Since the implementation of the merit system, rank up must be in accordance with Merit acquisition and number of activities. When both of them have reached the specified target, you will automatically be promoted to Hero Member rank. 500 merit is not something that is impossible to obtain, anyone can achieve that level if they consistently contribute to the forum.

Let me first say that this thread is supposed to be in the meta board, since it's a thread that has to do with the activity on this forum, but still not very bad having it here since sometimes, anything still goes in beginners and help.

Now, ranking up on this forum has everything to do with a user's activity on this forum, as well as number of earned merits along the way.
Some really good posters do reach the hero rank in less than a year, if they managed to earn the number of merits required for that rank, as well as meet the activity level of the rank in less than a year, it's very possible.

But for the average poster, reaching the rank of a hero member take up to a year or two, or even more like 3 to 4 to 5 years, it all depends on how active the user is posting and how fast he or she earns merit.

Not sure if there was a guy with this level already maybe we have but dont know whom. Its quite hard to grind merits especially if you are really trying to hard to get it. But surely some here are naturally born gifted with their ways to contribute and received a lot of it. Me myself took longer than that I guess means the competition to get there isnt an easy task at all.

You are mistaken. One of the conditions to reach Hero rank is 500 merit, not 490 merit.
490 in the table refers to the number of activities, not Merit. It already exceeds the activities required for Hero member rank (480 Activities).

In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

The more accurate activity addition is every 14 days, 6 minutes, 40 seconds.

Apparently , the activity changes every 1210000 units of the UNIX timestamp.

This equates to 14 days , 6 minutes , 40 seconds.

This means , after 3026 2 week periods , you would expect to gain 42364 activity.

But no , you would get only 42350 activity.

TLDR; Every 116 years you will lose out on 14 activity. Sad right ?

You need 480 activities and 500 merits under your name to get hero status.

Every 14 days you will get 14 activities but merit earning varies and there is no scale to calculate how much you can earn in a day because its not in your hands.

I think in this case there is no specific benchmark about the deadline for how we raise the account because after all this depends on the quality of our posts.
I also started from scratch from a newbie until now although there was indeed a few months of pause because there were some problems in rl but when we are serious in contributing to the forum I don't think it will take long and indeed everyone I think has a different period in this case depending on the contribution given to the forum so with this I think it goes back to yourself to achieve the highest rank because in the end such an assessment depends on the contribution we make because I think this is feedback where we contribute well then we will also be recognized well too.
As for the time I think this is also the same because reflecting on what I am doing now I personally do not measure the time to be on the forum how many hours because I do it when I am free so indeed with this for the duration I think this also returns to each person who is on the forum itself.
