Translation tool doesn't work optimally

I am not a native English speaker, which is why I created this thread.
My problem today is that I'm having trouble reading many posts because Google Translate is not working optimally for this forum. There are many threads and posts that are hard to read and a lot of text is lost when auto-translated. I don't know if this problem is only happening to me or if it is also happening to most users who are not native English speakers.

If it's just me, is there a solution? I'm having trouble finding one.

I am not use to visiting other local boards to check their posts out but whenever I come across one, the forum translation that I get from my browser (chrome) is efficient to make me read the post and understand what message they are passing in that local board. Google translator cannot be 100% efficient but to some extent, the translation can be understood. If you want an in-depth and detail translation, you will have to get someone that understands the native language and English to translate for you well.

I understand, Google Translate cannot be relied on to understand 100% of the meaning of other local board posts. But this is another problem, I mean the pages that are automatically translated by google Translate today look very messy. This is about English to Indonesian and can tell you one example, see the image below:

You are using it to translate English posts into your native language, or translating from other languages into yours?

There are many threads and posts that are hard to read and a lot of text is lost when auto-translated. I don't know if this problem is only happening to me or if it is also happening to most users who are not native English speakers.

From my experience Google Translate works pretty good as long as people don't use idioms and slang but unfortunately that's often not the case which results in gibberish, like in your case.

I typically do not rely on Google translate since I have a good grasp of English.  But, there are times when I use it to translate content from other languages into English, like Russian posts for example and  i havent run into any major issues personally.

Could you explain what you mean when you say a good part of the text is lost? Perhaps you could provide a screenshot of the problem so we can understand it better?

Sorry if you don't understand what I mean, but this is about translating English into Indonesian (native language). You can see the image in the post above, it looks damaged and very difficult to read. This has not happened to me before although I can still understand most posts without translation.

if you don't mind the extra work that you might do, have you tried using chatGPT to translate posts? I know you are translating the whole page but if the translation from Google is really bad on some posts, try translating that specific post using ChatGPT.  I find their translation much better compared to Google Translate (at least when it comes to translating English to my native language and vice versa).

I am a Chrome browser user and always use auto-translation to view all posts on the forum, but this time the auto-translation is not working properly, indeed some of the auto-translated text on this forum has partially disappeared but the auto-translation on the article is quite normal.

I don't know what the problem is, but currently using the Brave browser is quite good at automatic translation, no text is lost.

I get what is going on here.  Seems you run into a bit of a layout problem.  These old forum templates rely on website table structures to display properly.  Downside is, forget one little HTML tag and the whole thing unravels and  bummer.  Not much can be done on our end, far as I know.  Least not until the powers that be upgrade this creaky platform.

Perhaps the best workaround is to use the old-fashioned method of Google translate when you encounter such lengthy posts. Simply copy the entire text and paste it into translate.google.com, or you can try some extensions that enable you to translate only the highlighted text, which should not break the overall page layout.

I use Chrome's automatic translator a lot, and I can say that this sometimes happens in some posts.
You can rest assured, this is normal sometimes.

From my experience, I think this happens due to the way a user writes or when a page has a lot of text, which ends up getting in the way of the translator.

When this happens, I prefer to use the select text option, and translate only the selected text.

The first solution to this problem is by switching to Microsoft Edge browser. It will allow you to automatically translate the whole page but if you're  a Chrome user and you want a similar solution to work on Chrome then the most efficient solution for this issue is to install an extension which will auto translate the text for you. DeepL for Chrome extension is available and it works like a charm for me. I actually don't use auto-translation a lot but in a few websites I use translation to understand the topics in depth.

Google translator is the best option,  but for saving the words or sentences you have already written there, you can easily save these phrases somewhere in your notepad or the Microsoft Word document. In this way, when you open your PC, you can just copy the next file and start your file again. I'm also using Google Translate whenever I don't understand some questions, etc. Then, in the same way, store these files in some other place, and when I am on my PC, I just open it again and start my work there.
 
Although there are many other websites through which you can get the translated phrase, which can help you a lot,.

I don't know your issue, is it actually big enough to concern?

I see Google Translation tool was improved a lot and it works very well nowadays, much better than years ago. I say it about two sides, from non-English language to English and from English to non-English language. I really don't know why you have big problems with this tool today.

It does not work perfectly but I see it does better jobs than many people who do manual translation if they don't are not English proficient and don't have good translation skills.

Google translator was never reliable. Just try to do manual translation for specific sentences. Translating the whole page is considered bad practice as it never translates anything properly, not even 70%. It just translates the sentences, word by word, doesn't care if it's missing a word not.

Although I have used this service many times, but never faced the problem you mentioned. What exactly you mean by the text is lost? And how are you using google translator? Is it via google translator extension or through app or via website?

Translating an entire page is sometimes important to me every once in a while rather than all the time, but I've never had this problem before because the entire page and the translation seemed fine. The solution I use is still the same as what I usually do, namely by translating the highlighted part without translating the entire page. User preferences also vary, of course because they have their own level of comfort in reading short and long texts in order to understand them well, so translating the entire page or highlighted text should be fine for each of them.

But thanks to all your solutions or questions, I should consider it resolved even if I have to put in a little extra effort to translate long texts or thread. I locked the thread because I consider this issue resolved, especially for me.
